College Board Report ____________________________Page

It gives me great pleasure to present the St Joseph’s College Board report in my fi rst year as chair person. 2014 has been another very busy year for the College and the various committees and support groups who all work towards improving and supporting efforts to provide affordable, quality education for our students. Some of these signifi cant achievements include, but are not limited to: • College Open Day – March; • Parents and Friends Trivia Night – March; • Formal opening of the Year 9 Westcourt Campus – March; • Old Collegians Annual Reunion – May; • Catholic Education Offi ce External Review - June/ July; • P&F Artisan Markets- July; • The annual College Board Seminar – August; • Upstart Entrepreneurial Challenge – June to September; • TriUMPH Music Festival – September; • Parents and Friends Fashion Show – September; • Parent Cyber Bullying Training – October. • Combined Colleges’ Board/Council Gathering - November The formal external school review was undertaken during June and July by Mr Tony Frizza and Mr John Marks on behalf of the Catholic Education Offi ce. Areas of evaluation included education in faith; learning and teaching; student wellbeing; leadership and management; and school community. At the September board meeting, lead reviewer Tony Frizza presented a summary of fi ndings. Overall the reviewers were impressed by the positive, energetic atmosphere that pervades the College and the sense that this is a community that is constantly evolving and improving. The review found that St Joseph’s has very solid foundations on which to build into the future and the outcome of the review is that St Joseph’s has again met the standards and requirements of registration of the Victorian Registration and Qualifi cations Authority. It has also been exciting to see the Westcourt Campus become a reality after many years of planning. The College has worked extremely hard to provide students with the best program and facilities possible and it is a credit to the management team and campus staff who have worked tirelessly to achieve such a positive outcome. The students must also be acknowledged for the way in which they have embraced their new learning environment. The annual board seminar was held at Queenscliff in August where board members, the College leadership team and various faculty representatives, participated in a number of facilitated discussions and presentations around strategic and fi nancial planning, curriculum development and student welfare. The board’s involvement in the seminar has provided us with great confi dence that the school will continue to ‘strive for the highest’ and will prosper as a leading provider of secondary catholic education for ‘our boys’. I thank our Principal Paul Tobias, Deputies Paul Clohesy and Claire Brown, Business Manager Terry Fowler, Principal Personal Assistants Maureen Bryant & Adel Mawson, College Leaders and fellow Board Members for their ongoing commitment to making St Joseph’s the inclusive and engaging community that it is. I would like to particularly acknowledge Claire Brown and David Formosa, who will be departing the College at the end of this year, for the signifi cant professional and personal contributions they have made to our College community over many years. To Claire, we wish you all the best in your pending retirement and to David we wish you every success in your new position at Our Lady of Sacred Heart College, East Bentleigh. Finally I would like to acknowledge board member Peter Madden who has been a member of the College Board for 11 years and a past president of the Old Collegians Association. Peter will be leaving the board at the end of this year, and so on behalf of the board I thank you for your fellowship, generosity and candor and as a valued member of our college community.
