Building Works__________________________________Page

Much time has been spent during the year on the designing and planning for the next major building project being the Staff and Student Services Building (Stage 1) and the Administration Offices Refurbishment (Stage 2). The construction of Stage 1will commence in December 2014 with completion expected by November 2015. The Stage 1 works involve the centralisation of a number of student services including, careers, counselling, education support, timetabling and vocational education. The building will also house a new staffroom, meeting rooms and daily organiser office. There will also be an expanded area for the maintenance workshop. The estimated cost of the Stage 1 build is $5.0M and will be funded from a combination of building fund donations, cash reserves and new debt. These works will substantially change the face of the College on the Aphrasia Street frontage. Stage 2 will be less extensive and will involve the refurbishment of the former staffroom into administration offices and a reworking of the current reception area to include an archival and student work display area. During the year initial plans of the office layout have been prepared. These will be further refined in 2015 with plans for the works to be undertaken late 2015 and into 2016. It is estimated that these works will cost about $1.5M. Planning also commenced during the year for the construction of a Chapel at Westcourt campus. It is expected that construction will commence about February 2015 and be completed later in the year. This project has been made possible as a consequence of the generosity of a former student who has gifted $100,000. This contribution has been doubled by our Old Collegians Association who has gifted $250,000 to the project. Former student, Anthony Baldasso of Baldasso, Cortese Architects has kindly designed the building, free of charge. The total cost of the Chapel is expected to be some $600,000. Minor works undertaken during the year included the construction of a shelter on O’Driscoll oval. This shelter which can be used by the wider community provides much needed protection from the sun and rain. A new fire service system was installed and additional asphalting works were undertaken at Westcourt campus. At the main campus six, Year 7 classrooms were upgraded with painting, new furniture and pinboards. A program to continue the upgrade of more classrooms will continue over the next few years. Finally, a half basketball court was constructed on Carey oval to provide additional activity facilities for our Year 8 students during lunch.
