THE YEAR OF BOUNCE!

From the beginning of 2014, the Year 8 students have been keen, excited and energetic. All the boys have participated in many great and varied experiences. The personal, social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth has been noted by many. Many boys have risen to a variety of challenges presented, and I hope that each and every one of the students have enjoyed their year. I personally have loved working with this group of fine individuals. There has been such a diverse range of boys within Year 8 and this has made them a special group. The student leaders (class captains and year level leaders) have led by example and helped other students to shine in their respective ways. However, many other students have achieved greatness in a variety of domains. I congratulate and applaud all the boys that have stepped outside their comfort zone and pushed themselves to strive for greatness. With Westcourt awaiting I’m sure they will ‘bounce’ their way down there and make a lasting impression on the next stage of their Joey’s Journey. I wish each and every one of the current Year 8’s, all the very best and I look forward to hearing about their progress in 2015. Good luck boys!

Dan Hale - Year 8 Coordinator

The Melbourne Gaol was old, dark and full of stories, the walls filled with history of our culture and justice. The highlight of the day was hearing the stories of those who were sent to the gaol, why they were sent there, how long they were there for and if they were executed. - Colten Dunn. At the Melbourne Museum we attended Bunjilaka. We learnt about Aboriginal culture, the Dreamtime and Aboriginal history. We saw weapons and tools used, the boats, cooking and the artwork. - Jake

McCorkell

Unlike most other excursions or camps, students were given the opportunity to use public transport to get them from Geelong into Melbourne, where they would further use public transport to travel to some of Melbourne’s iconic locations. The highlight of the day was getting the train back to Geelong with all of our goodies we had collected that day. - Patrick Richards. During the cultural immersion we had a talk from an Aboriginal man and his son Pancake. He told us that he was Australian, he was Aboriginal and he was indigenous. He told us what this meant and the importance of it. To finish it off, Pancake played the didgeridoo for us. - Jake McCorkell We also had a professional Bollywood dancer come and teach us some moves to some classic and modern day songs. Some people were also called up to dance in front of all of their peers including our very own Mr Hale. - Gabe Hickey
