Dear Saints,
Thank you for your unwavering support of St. Anne’s-Belfield over the past year. Your generosity enabled us to provide exceptional educational experiences for our students, making a profound and lasting impact on our school community.
Within the pages of this Impact Report, you will see some of the stories of how your gifts have made a difference. From gifts to create the Pam and Frank Edmonds, P. ’17, ’20, & ’24 Financial Aid Fund, (page 24) to gifts to complete phase 2 of the Early Childhood Natural Classrooms renovation project, (page 28) to gifts for the Arts Boosters (page 26) and Saints Athletics Club (page 27), our community makes things happen.
Through your support for the Fund for St. Anne’s-Belfield, our annual fund, we were able to provide enriching experiences beyond what we could achieve with tuition alone, which provides 80% of the actual costs to run the School. Thanks in part to generous donors, we added 11 new electives in the Upper School; enhanced our collection of instructional texts for reading to include many more decod-
able texts for early readers; provided opportunities to Middle School students to participate and compete in Robotics, wind turbine, and Mathletes clubs; offered professional development grants to faculty; and provided financial aid for 35% of our student body.
These accomplishments are a testament to the power of our collective efforts and the generosity of donors like you. We are grateful to you for helping to shape the future of St. Anne’s-Belfield School, and for believing in our mission, outlined more than 115 years ago by our founding headmistress Mary Hyde DuVal, of preparing students to be “strong in body, broad of mind, tender of heart, responsive in soul.”
Thank you for supporting St. Anne’s-Belfield. We couldn’t do it without you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Autumn A. Graves Head of School

The Sustainers’ Society
Consecutive annual donors are the bedrock of our philanthropic program. By providing support year-in and year-out, these donors allow the School to plan with confidence.
The Sustainers’ Society celebrates those extraordinary donors who have given a gift to any area of the School for 20 or more consecutive years. We gratefully acknowledge the following members of the Sustainers’ Society who have demonstrated their financial commitment to our community for the past two decades and beyond, and we applaud this year’s new members whose names are emboldened below.
We also congratulate the following donors on reaching new giving milestones of 5, 10, and 15 years. We are grateful for all that their generosity has made possible over the years.

Honoring a Legacy of Support
Donors establish the Pam and Frank Edmonds, P. ’17, ’20, & ’24 Financial Aid Fund to expand access for the highest-need students
Behind every student at St. Anne’s-Belfield, a team of adults helps ensure that students may thrive. Some of that support team is well known: parents, teachers, and advisors. Others may be less visible but are no less vital, from the learning specialists and counselors to the dining staff and facilities team. And there are others in the proverbial village. For 18 years, one family in particular worked tirelessly to help Saints participate in the full breadth of our program: Frank and Pam Edmonds, whose three children, Holland Edmonds ’17, Allie Edmonds ’20, and Spicer Edmonds ’24, all attended the School.
For nearly two decades, the Edmonds watched for and quietly took care of needs throughout the school. They made sure food was available for students participating in arts and athletics after school. They would often offset expenses for student activities, making the experience possible for all families. Mrs. Edmonds planned senior nights for teams, organized play program sponsorships, and over the course of many years, served in leadership roles in nearly all the school’s parent/guardian volunteer groups. Mr. Edmonds served as chair of the board of trustees during both a head-of-school transition and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Graves announced the creation of a financial aid fund in honor of these special Saints. The Pam and Frank Edmonds, P. ’17, ’20, & ’24 Financial Aid Fund will provide wrap-around support for families on need-based tuition assistance. 30 donors gave a combined $2 million to create the fund, blowing well past the fund’s $1 million goal and becoming the largest named endowed fund in the school’s history.
Said one donor to the fund, “It’s simply hard to imagine any family in Charlottesville that has had more of an impact on this community and St. Anne’s-Belfield than the Edmonds family. They have always shown a strong willingness to support so many community efforts — both through thoughtful participation as well as financial support.”
It’s simply hard to imagine any family in Charlottesville that has had more of an impact on this community and St. Anne’s-Belfield than the Edmonds family.
Nearly 35% of students receive financial aid to attend St. Anne’s-Belfield. Of those receiving financial aid, 14% are classified as “high need,” receiving tuition assistance of 75% or higher. The School typically budgets around $90,000 from the operating budget to support these families beyond traditional tuition assistance. Going forward, the School will draw upon this fund to support students receiving this level of support. Wrap-around support could include uniforms, yearbooks and yearbook photos, instrument rentals, clothing for school dances and year-end events in Grades 8 and 12, science fair materials, team fees, and external student support services like standardized testing, tutoring, and therapy.
In April 2024 at the Semicentennial Gala, Dr. Autumn A.
The Edmonds were deeply touched by donors’ generosity.
“The St. Anne’s-Belfield community has been an important part of our family’s life for the past 18 years and we have always been proud to be members of it,” said Pam Edmonds. “Being honored by so many friends through their support of the Pam and Frank Edmonds Financial Aid Fund is one of the honors of our lifetimes. We are particularly excited that these funds will support access and provide incremental financial assistance to students who will benefit from working with the exceptional faculty at St. Anne’s-Belfield to help them reach their full potential.”
The establishment of this fund will aid in the School better catering to the needs of deserving families for years to come. Said one parent, “We are extremely grateful to the St. Anne’s-Belfield community and know that we wouldn’t have been able to give our children the opportunities that they have without the financial support of St. Anne’s.”

The Impact of Our Collective Commitment
The Fund for St. Anne’s-Belfield Remains One of the School’s Most Powerful Giving Vehicles
For more than 115 years, St. Anne’s-Belfield School has drawn its strength from the unwavering commitment of its community. Your generous support of the Fund for St. Anne’s-Belfield continues this long tradition of commitment. Going beyond a financial contribution, it’s a direct investment in shaping future generations of exemplary citizens and visionary leaders. Support to the Fund, which makes up 5% of the School’s operating budget, provides flexible dollars where need is the greatest — helping us to realize our mission of educating the whole child to become strong in body, broad of mind, tender of heart, responsive in soul.
It is thanks to the generosity of donors that we are able to advance the goals in our Portrait of a 2036 Graduate, which outlines the skills, habits, and mindsets we expect our students to have by the time they become Saints alumni.
Annual fund gifts empower our students to “pursue knowledge and wisdom” as noted in our Portrait, providing financial aid to 34% of students at the School and enriching the diversity of perspectives, backgrounds, and worldviews among our student body.
Ultimately, giving is what powers the people and the programs at St. Anne’s-Belfield.
Your contributions fuel the development of “intellectually curious and creative students,” supporting budding visual

and performing artists with supplies and guest artist visits.
Donors directly help our students to “strive for optimal health” and “enhance the connection between physical and mental health,” by making it possible for the school to offer a robust athletic and physical education program for students of all ages, along with parent/guardian programming through programs like Wednesday Wellness.
Through a variety of intentional moments such as our Chapel tradition, group hikes in nature, field trips, and Grade Level Experiences, even restricting device and phone use during the school day — we are helping students to “engage in reflection,” “increase self-awareness and understanding of the world,” “prioritize moments of reverence and awe,” and “honor the present with complete attention.”
The Fund truly supports all areas of our School.
THANK YOU

Semicentennial Weekend Kicks Off Year-Long Celebration with Alumni, Awards, and Festivities
Semicentennial Weekend, held on April 12 to 14, 2024, drew hundreds of alumni back to campus to reconnect with old friends and enjoy a walk down memory lane. Friday featured alumni leading Middle and Upper School Chapels (a new tradition we will continue!), an archives exhibit in Lee-DuVal Hall, and the All-Alumni Birthday Party where the Distinguished Alumni Awards and the inaugural induction into the Faculty Emeriti Program took place. Saturday included a luncheon hosted by the head of school for the 50th reunion Class of 1974, tours of the all-school art show, a state of the school address, and Spring Family Fest with athletic games, topped off with class-specific parties and the Semicentennial Gala in the evening. And finally, we capped off the weekend with the Upper School students’ 24-Hour Play. The Semicentennial Weekend was a powerful reminder of the enduring connections and shared experiences that exemplify our School’s rich history and reinforces the sense of community and belonging felt long after graduation. Semicentennial celebrations continue with Saints on the Road, which includes a 12-city tour.

Faculty Innovation Gets a Big Boost
Fund-A-Need Seeds $83,575 in Summer Grants
Guests in their gala finery sat at elegantly-decorated tables, the Conway Convocation Center transformed for the evening into a glittering ballroom for the Semicentennial Gala. At each table, several guests were glancing down at their phones, seemingly occupied by their screens. No deans of students were called in to reprimand them for using their phones at school; rather, they were cheered on by fellow tablemates. At the center of the room, a lively auctioneer announced a collective figure that was escalating by the second. By the time he called a stop, generous gala attendees had donated an impressive $83,575 via mobile bidding for the Fund-A-Need, earmarked for faculty summer grants. While summer is traditionally understood as a time for teachers to rest and recuperate, it often presents valuable time for many St. Anne’s-Belfield teachers to improve their craft. The announcement of the summer grant funds sparked immediate enthusiasm among the faculty. Thanks to Fund-A-Need contributions, 25 grants were awarded to faculty this past summer for a variety of professional development opportunities. Examples of funded projects in-
clude exploring the creation of new Upper School courses in songwriting and physics; completing morphology training for Grade 3 teachers and then working with the Lower School reading specialist to build a word study and spelling plan; and developing a new grading progression model for several academic departments in Middle School. These initiatives are set to bring innovative approaches and renewed energy to the classroom, ultimately benefiting our students and the broader school community.
