January 21 & 22, 2023

Dear friends,

Welcome to the start of Stable View's 2023 Eventing program.

The comparison with 2022 is around 25 degrees!

If you're a regular competitor, owner or spectator, you will remember the tarps that were purchased and used to keep the Dressage Arenas from freezing for an 8am Saturday start ... the temperatures went down to 20 degrees on the Friday night

Not so this year!

With low temperatures of 35 and highs of around 60, we, and you, and your horses should be in good shape

With well over 250 entries, we're in for a great weekend of sport.

Looking ahead, Stable View’s next Recognized Horse Trials will be our April 7th, 8th and 9th FEI CCI-S 2/3/4* and USEF/USEA Nationals. If you are intending to compete, and are from out of town, please secure your Accommodations as soon as possible – it is also Masters Week in Augusta! Stable View is acting as a clearing house for Accommodations. We are working on connecting owners of available rooms/rentals to participating riders. Please call Elissa Lumley +1 (917) 592-6058 if you are able to offer housing, or if you are a rider in need of a room(s).

Please note that Stable View's proposed 2024 Calendar is now on our web site.

We hope you enjoy your time with us at Stable View this weekend!

FREE TO BEE

Having started in early spring with five nucleus colonies (also known as "nucs") from a local bee supplier, Stable View's bees have grown to eleven, almost twelve, hives with healthy queens Over the summer, we have supported the bees' efforts to build up and prepare for winter. Our goal is to contribute to healthy pollinators in our area, and share the sweet fruits of their labor!

A BIRDER'S PARADISE

This time last year, Stable View had one resident Red-Cockaded Woodpecker Today, we have ten (six adults and four juveniles)! Additionally, by increasing our number of nest boxes we have helped many of our feathered friends thrive: this year, we have fledged 200+ Eastern Bluebirds (an increase of 50% compared to last year); a pair of Eastern Screech Owls fledged two young; and the American Kestrels fledged all five nestlings from the same nest box as in previous years

According to our expert, Mark Pavlosky of MPJ Wildlife, we expect to observe many migrant species working their way South early this fall.

We look forward to hosting bird watchers who wish to view native, rare, or endangered species on their lists!

HISTORICALLY, "A GATHERING PLACE"

Set out afoot–or ahoof–on our 15 miles of marked trails, each named in honor of local Native American tribes, where you may see evidence of our prescribed fires, which increase plant diversity, perpetuate endangered species, allow wildlife easier access to food sources, restore nutrients back into the soil, and reduce the risk of wildfires
