EVENTING ACADEMY Schooling Horse Trials

November 20-21, 2021

welcome

Welcome to the final Eventing Academy of the 2021 Eventing year. Hopefully you are aware that all positions for horse and rider accumulate during the Eventing year and go towards yearend prizes. Next month’s Academy will be the first event of the 2022 Eventing year, and also, Sunday will be the day on which 2021 prizes will be distributed. Our intention is to stop Sunday’s event at 11:15, present prizes from 11:30 to 12:00 and to restart at 12:15. Please don’t forget Graze and Gaze which will be between 5:00 and 7:00PM on Saturday. Also, please don’t forget to read Early Insights which provide information regarding future Eventing Academies. If you have not received Early Insights... please CLICK HERE to subscribe! As we always say, have a great ride. Regards, Barry and Cyndy and the Stable View Team P.S. Follow us on social media @stableviewaiken... your photo might be featured!

ANNOUNCEMENT A special announcement to Eventing Academy riders: We were encouraged to see that 50% of entries for this weekend's Academy were completed online via Compete Easy. This level of participation is welcome news for two important reasons! First, Compete Easy gives users complete control over one's entry, allowing

riders

to

be

responsible

for

changes

themselves.

Therefore, second, it streamlines the entry process and creates efficiencies, reducing the administrative load in the Stable View Office. If you have not yet experienced the "ease" of Compete Easy, there are significant advantages to signing up! Advantage #1 An entry via Compete Easy, remains a live entry. For example, you might enter an event on Monday, you can then change your entry on Wednesday, again on Friday, and then go back and re-enter something the following Tuesday. In this instance, while you would have previously dealt with the Stable View Office three times, now, you can correct and amend your entry yourself. In the future you will be able to change your paddocks, stalls, divisions, and your horse's

Coggins.

These

important

updates

will

all

be

the

responsibility of and managed by you. Advantage #2 Compete Easy brings Eventing, Dressage and H/J’s into the 2020’s in a similar manner to the way airlines changed their way of selling tickets during the 1990’s. Airlines will not issue boarding passes

ANNOUNCEMENT without travelers having entered information correctly into their database. Whereas in the old days we’d phone in or fill in a form for the airline, that option is virtually obsolete - we must take ownership of our own ticket application including frequent flyer number,

passport

information,

DOB,

seat

selection,

meal

preferences and more. An airline will not chase us for correct information as we at Stable View do for show entries at present. At the back end of this process--scheduling, reconciliations, live scores, and live notifications--are additional aids to which we can devote

time

in

our

office,

making

your

show

experience

instantaneous. In the future, how convenient would it be to receive a notice that you should be at the Start Box, or that there is a delay, or that your dressage score is ready as you leave the arena and your test can be accessed on your phone or tablet? These efficiencies allow us to pass the operational savings along to riders, rather than increasing show fees in line with our peers.

While not all of these capabilities are immediately available, as the percentage of U.S. riders that uses Compete Easy increases, the sooner we will all be able to join riders in other parts of the world who already enjoy the innovative, stress-free process of Compete Easy! We look forward to seeing you in the arena! With best regards, The Stable View Team.

A BIRDER'S PARADISE

FREE TO BEE Having started in early spring with five nucleus colonies (also known as "nucs") from a local bee supplier, Stable View's bees have grown to eleven, almost twelve, hives with healthy queens. Over the summer, we have supported the bees' efforts to build up and prepare for winter. Our goal is to contribute to healthy pollinators in our area, and share the sweet fruits of their labor!

This time last year, Stable View had one resident Red-Cockaded Woodpecker. Today, we have ten (six adults and four juveniles)! Additionally, by increasing our number of nest boxes we have helped many of our feathered friends thrive: this year, we have fledged 200+ Eastern Bluebirds (an increase of 50% compared to last year); a pair of Eastern Screech Owls fledged two young; and the American Kestrels fledged all five nestlings from the same nest box as in previous years. According to our expert, Mark Pavlosky of MPJ Wildlife, we expect to observe many migrant species working their way South early this fall. We look forward to hosting bird watchers who wish to view native, rare, or endangered species on their lists!

HISTORICALLY, "A GATHERING PLACE" Set out afoot–or ahoof–on our 15 miles of marked trails, each named in honor of local Native American tribes, where you may see evidence of our prescribed fires, which increase plant diversity, perpetuate endangered species, allow wildlife easier access to food sources, restore nutrients back into the soil, and reduce the risk of wildfires.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Joy Atwell My husband and I came to spend the winter at our new Oak Hill Farm in Aiken in January 2020. When COVID-19 hit in March 2020 we decided

to

extend

our

stay

indefinitely; we're still here and we love living in Aiken. I have owned and ridden horses since I was 11 years old and started to compete in Eventing in 2014. I signed up to volunteer for the first time in May 2020 for Stable View's Eventing Academy and I was so impressed by the friendliness of everyone I met, especially Rhonda Campbell, Stable View's Event Coordinator. Stable View makes it easy to volunteer because they are super organized and they provide everything you need, including lunch and snacks throughout the day. Volunteering has been a great way to meet people and learn more about the sport of Eventing. I've had the pleasure of seeing young children competing on small ponies at the lowest level all the way up through the levels to 5* Eventers and Olympians here at Stable View. I was nervous the first time I volunteered but I quickly found out the role is explained well to you and you have time to ask questions, It really is a wonderful experience and I recommend it to anyone.
