USEF/USDF "SOUTHERN COMFORT" DRESSAGE
March 5&6, 2022
welcome Dear friends, We have drawn from across the country to invite prominent 'S' judges to our recognized shows with the intention of giving riders exposure to judges for whom they might not otherwise have a chance to demonstrate progress. This weekend we are pleased to welcome judges Carter Bass (S, VA) and Kristi Wysocki (S, WA). Carter Bass has been involved with horses since childhood, competing in Hunters, Eventing and Dressage. She has been a dressage instructor for 35 years, and has coached several horse/rider combinations that have received Horse of the Year awards, regional championships and competed at Grand Prix. Bass has been a licensed official with the USEF since 1989, receiving “S” Dressage and “R” Dressage Sporthorse Breeding licenses. She was accepted into the USEF Senior Judges training program in 2012. She is a Bronze, Silver and Gold medalist. Kristi Wysocki earned a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Colorado School of Mines and worked as an engineer for fifteen years prior to returning her focus to her riding and training of dressage horses. She is a USEF licensed ‘S’ Dressage Judge, ‘R’ Dressage Sport Horse Judge and an FEI 4* PARA Dressage Judge. She is a USDF Gold, silver and Bronze Medalist. She has competed several horses to the FEI levels, winning many regional and local championships through Grand Prix. She has also successfully competed in the CDI arena with multiple horses. Currently, she lives on Whidby Island, Washington. This weekend, we look forward to an incredible turnout of talent, including 82 entries across 214 classes, with 109 rides on Saturday, and 105 rides on Sunday. A reminder that we have structured our mid-summer USEF/USDF Too Hot To Trot II (August 19 through 21) so that there is an added day of competition, allowing riders to receive three separate scores for this particular show. We hope you will take advantage of the growth of our year-round Dressage program and add upcoming show dates (page 13) to your calendar! With best wishes, The Stable View Team

Rider Spotlight Anabelle Margaret Clare Hede, age 8 Savannah Country Day School, Grade 2 Horse: Fredrik, 15, Swedish Riding Pony How long have you been riding, and how did you become interested in horses? Mummy had horses and I was always climbing on them and then I got my first pony, Tinkerbell when I was 3. What is it about Dressage that you like? What about your Dressage training are you hoping to improve? I love dressage. I love competing and riding my tests at shows, even difficult days when Fredrik is being tough. Right now I am trying to not break my canter in a test at a show, a habit my pony does now, never does it at home when training. Also my geometry needs to be better, my circles sometimes are half circles. Are there any riders, or athletes or other people in general whom you admire? Rose Oatley she is a German FEI JR rider and I think she is the best rider and I love her Instagram. Tell us about your horse ... what is his personality? Fredrik can be so sweet and then he can be a jerk to me. He has a stubborn personality. He has bucked me so many times I can’t even count it. But I still like him. What has working with your horse taught you? Don’t get mad at him when he does something bad or I don’t like it, Mr Julio Mendoza taught me this. Tells me to smile and keep riding. Don’t get mad. So now I try it and it works. Do you have your sights set on a specific goal? I am going to the Olympics in 2032 in Australia. My parents are from Australia. It is a good first Olympics for me. When you are not riding or spending time with horses you are most likely doing .....? Arts and crafts and annoying my siblings. Do you have a favorite horse book or movie? Favorite horse book “Girl on Dancing Horse” and movie “Free Rein” on Netflix. Tell us about a memorable horse moment. I was in a round pen and my pony bucked and I thought would buck me out of the round pen and my mum said “sit sit sit” and now just says “Move on. It happens.” What are your favorite places to go or do around town? In Aiken I love Casa Bella for dinner.
“Putting the finishing touch in all of the trainer and horse’s hard work and determination.” Button, rosettes, Dutch braids with bands are $50 per braid. Sewn-in (lasts all weekend) are $60. Tail extensions are $10. Appointments can be set up by FB Messenger or by texting 678-588-4280.

A BIRDER'S PARADISE
FREE TO BEE Having started in early spring with five nucleus colonies (also known as "nucs") from a local bee supplier, Stable View's bees have grown to eleven, almost twelve, hives with healthy queens. Over the summer, we have supported the bees' efforts to build up and prepare for winter. Our goal is to contribute to healthy pollinators in our area, and share the sweet fruits of their labor!
This time last year, Stable View had one resident Red-Cockaded Woodpecker. Today, we have ten (six adults and four juveniles)! Additionally, by increasing our number of nest boxes we have helped many of our feathered friends thrive: this year, we have fledged 200+ Eastern Bluebirds (an increase of 50% compared to last year); a pair of Eastern Screech Owls fledged two young; and the American Kestrels fledged all five nestlings from the same nest box as in previous years. According to our expert, Mark Pavlosky of MPJ Wildlife, we expect to observe many migrant species working their way South early this fall. We look forward to hosting bird watchers who wish to view native, rare, or endangered species on their lists!
HISTORICALLY, "A GATHERING PLACE" Set out afoot–or ahoof–on our 15 miles of marked trails, each named in honor of local Native American tribes, where you may see evidence of our prescribed fires, which increase plant diversity, perpetuate endangered species, allow wildlife easier access to food sources, restore nutrients back into the soil, and reduce the risk of wildfires.
