Telling people you’re studying law at Staffordshire University really counts for something.

“I loved my time at Staffordshire University. The Law School staff were extremely supportive and always on hand to help and advise. I graduated in 2010 as top of my year and with a first-class honours degree. It’s an achievement that not only reflects all my hard work, but also the exceptional levels of support and guidance that I received. At the Law School, you’re taught in an incredibly structured and logical way. That helps immensely when it comes to understanding the various different aspects of law and when preparing for exams. The fact that many of the lecturers are highly regarded solicitors or barristers is also a huge bonus. As well as knowing how law should be taught, they know exactly how to apply what they teach to the requirements of the legal profession. Several of them have also written legal textbooks. All the lecturers are really friendly, knowledgeable and approachable and will always make time to see you. I appreciated the fact that we worked in small tutorial groups – something that allowed for an incredible level of interaction between students and staff. After graduating, I went on to complete the Bar Professional Training Course and can honestly say that the solid grounding I gained during my time at Staffordshire University helped me to succeed. I was ‘Called to the Bar’’ in November 2011 and, after completing a twelve-month pupilage at a Chambers in Essex, began practising family law earlier this year. You’ll find that telling people you’re studying law at Staffordshire University really counts for something. The Law School has a fantastic reputation amongst the legal profession and the LLB is recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and the Bar Standards Board.” James Holmes, Barrister and LLB(Hons) Law

Amy Garside feels that all her hard work has paid off, after her law degree helped secure her dream job in Human Resources.

Amy, from Staffordshire, completed the LLB(Hons) Law after enjoying law at A level. Reflecting on working part-time while studying, she says: “It was really hard fitting it all in, but it was a very interesting course and very rewarding.” During her final year of study, Amy applied for two different jobs – one with the NHS and the other with a firm of solicitors. She was offered both positions and opted for the NHS post, which involved joining the Graduate Management Training Scheme, based at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. Now being sponsored to do a Postgraduate Diploma in HR Management by the NHS, Amy hopes to become a senior manager and, eventually, an HR Director within the Health Service. She revealed: “I chose the NHS job because I felt it would be a varied and interesting position that would offer me lots of challenges and opportunities. “I’m really excited about beginning this career path and can recommend the law degree at Staffordshire University because the staff are always very supportive. Although I’ve gone slightly off the law path, I hope I serve as proof that you can get a job once you graduate if you try hard enough – and that all your hard work will pay off once you have a degree under your belt.”

DEFERRED ENTRY If you wish to defer entry to your chosen course for one year we’ll still welcome your application

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? After we’ve considered your application, UCAS will notify you of our decision. If you’re successful, we’ll also invite you to visit us and attend one of our Visit Days. In some cases, you may be invited to attend an interview before we decide whether to offer you a place.

AFTER RECEIVING YOUR RESULTS However confident you are about achieving the results you need, things don’t always go to plan. Prepare for all eventualities. If you don’t meet the precise conditions of the offer we made you, don’t worry. It may still be possible for us to offer you a place on your chosen course. Contact us for advice as soon as you can.

CLEARING The UCAS clearing process gives students an additional opportunity to find a place. Most universities prefer to consider students who made an application first time round.

UCAS EXTRA This is the opportunity to apply for another course if you have used all five choices and not secured a place. UCAS Extra runs from the end of February until the end of June.
