Congratulations & welcome... Thank you for choosing Staffordshire University. Starting university is a big step and there’ll be lots for you to plan, arrange and sort out before you join us. That’s why we’ve put together this helpful guide, and supporting website (www.staffs.ac.uk/welcome), so you’ll know exactly what to do and the support we can offer. If you’re joining us from overseas, you will have received information from International Student Support. If they haven’t been in touch, please email ISS@staffs.ac.uk That’s about it for now - other than to say that at Staffordshire University we are committed to helping you make the most of your student experience and preparing you for life’s great adventure. E-enrol and Send us your snapshot Make sure you e-enrol with us right away to officially register you as a student at Staffordshire University. E-enrolment is quick, easy and done online and you will receive more information how to enrol once you’ve accepted your place. During enrolment you can upload a digital photograph or send us a passport photograph using the tear-off slip in the ‘hurry’ insert. Make sure you do this before 11 September 2013 so that we can have your card ready for you when you arrive! You can also download a copy of ‘Hurry’ at: www.staffs.ac.uk/welcome

E-ENROLMENT / ARRIVAL DATES

Visit your Welcome website

When to arrive, register and enrol Registration takes place between 10am and 4pm, you’ll complete stage 2 of enrolment, collect your card, and pick up your keys to University accommodation (if you are living in University managed halls). Registration dates for UK-based students moving into University accommodation: • Stoke: 21 September 2013 (see map on page 13 for exact location) • Stafford: 22 September 2013 (see map on page 14 for exact location) Registration dates for UK-based students not moving into University accommodation: • Stoke: 22 September 2013 (see map on page 13 for exact location) • Stafford: 22 September 2013 (see map on page 14 for exact location)

Disabled students If you have a disability and have not yet let us know, please do so immediately. We will be running an induction programme for disabled students. For more information visit www.staffs.ac.uk/welcome or email disability@staffs.ac.uk

YOU LEAVE HOME FOR UNI... Make sure you have visited the www.staffs.ac.uk/welcome web pages and found your timetable for the week on your School web page. Complete enrolment (making sure you have uploaded your photo or attached one to the hurry insert enclosed) and print out your e-enrolment certificate/email. Check you have received confirmation of your student loan from Student Finance England (if you are eligible). Complete the Direct Debit mandate if you are not having a tuition fee loan (see the Hurry insert enclosed)

THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME FOR UNI

Arrange Vaccinations. If you have not already been immunised for meningitis, or have not had two doses of the mumps (MMR) vaccine, arrange for vaccinations before you arrive at University. If you are moving away from home, sort out contents Insurance for your personal possessions. Anyone living in University Managed Accommodation will have basic contents insurance (www.cover4students.com/blockhalls/ summary/staffordshire) included in their rent. You can purchase additional cover if needed. (This will cover belongings in your room only). Get a TV Licence once you know where you’ll be staying. You’ll need one to cover use of a TV, DVD player or video recorder in your room whether you live in halls or in other accommodation. Arrange internet access - if it’s not included in your Accommodation. Advise us if you have any special requirements (www.staffs.ac.uk/study/disabled Check out the University Facebook (www.facebook.com/staffsuni) page and get to know other students who will be starting their studies at University this September.

Once we have seen all this information, you will be given your Student ID Card and your student finance payments (e.g. your loan or grant) will be activated.

Course checklist

Here’s a quick reminder of some of the more important things to get done during your First Week. This list is not definitive but it will help you to make sure you do some of the essentials

By the end of the First week you should…..

Know where to access details of modules that make up your course and have completed module registration

Collect your room key (if you are staying in University Accommodation)

Have received a timetable of classes for the Autumn semester (including rooms and times)

Enrolled and received your student ID Card

Know how to get further information on your timetable

Registered with the University GPs unless you’re already registered with a local GP

Know the location of your School Office and who your Personal Tutor is

Log on to your University email account. There are important welcome messages, including log-in details for your printing account.

Know the name and location of your course leader

Know where and how to submit coursework and how to find out when work is due in
