In December 2011, my li le family made our annual pilgrimage to Tennessee for Christmas. While we were there, I had the opportunity to visit with one of my dear college friends who owned Blue Moon Dinner Theatre. He invited us to see his company’s production of A Christmas Story, and it was in the dark of that theatre that I fell in love with the story and its characters. That night, my dream of running a theatre company and producing plays began to take shape.

In 2012 and 2013, I was fortunate enough to produce and direct A Christmas Story with Curtains Up! Theatre Company in Leesburg, Virginia. Those seasons remain some of my proudest moments as an entrepreneur and artist. However, I closed the theater company a er just two seasons to focus on family and my other dream of being a super awesome baseball mom, which, I’m happy to report, I rocked. Life has a way of reminding us to embrace the moments as they come. Then, in 2019, my dear friends at StageCoach Theatre Company asked if I would be interested in directing A Christmas Story for them. Without hesitation, I said yes. I love them, I love the company and its vision, and I truly love this play. I might even love it more than the movie—yes, I said it! While the movie is a holiday classic, there’s something uniquely heartfelt and genuine about the story when it comes to life on stage.

Jean Shepherd’s philosophy— “humor can be found everywhere in the every day, in the carefully captured and seemingly small but defining moments that shape our adventures”—remains at the heart of this story. It’s a reminder that humor and truth are o en born from the simplest, most relatable moments of our lives.

As I reflect on my own childhood adventures, I realize they were filled with similar moments—laughs, love, and a sense of wonder. It’s funny how things that seemed so monumental as a child (like Ralphie’s Official Red Ryder Two Hundred Shot Carbine Action Range Model Air Rifle with a compass and this thing that tells time, built right into the stock) now make me smile. For me, at one point, the Barbie Dream House was as important as Ralphie’s air rifle. But in the end, it’s not the material things we remember most—it is the people, the adventures, and the moments that shape us.

As we return to the stage in 2024, a er our 2020 run was cut short due to COVID-19, I’m filled with gratitude and a renewed sense of appreciation for this story and the joy it brings. Though we couldn’t complete the production back then, the excitement of seeing it come to life now, in a world that has changed so much, makes it feel even more special. So, as you sit back in the theater, I hope you fall in love with this story once again—whether for the first time or in a new way. Let the rush of nostalgia and sentimentality wash over you as this simple, yet heartwarming tale unfolds before you. Take this opportunity to leave the stress of the world behind, even if only for a couple of hours, and let the warmth of family, laughter, and adventure fill your heart.

Thank you to my amazingly talented cast. I am so proud of you. I’d also like to give special thanks to our crew who has worked tirelessly, April who took on more than producing, and Terry who helped create our home in Hohman Indiana. Lots of love to my two favorite men, Jay & Henry. Thank you for always believing in and supporting my dreams and adventures. Finally, to the parents of the awesome kids you are about to see perform thank you for entrusting us with them and for your support! To anyone involved that I may have missed…thank you, thank you!
