THE BEST IN FLEET

CHAMPIONING THE BEST IN FLEET...

Welcome to Fleet World’s 2024 Great British Fleet Guide!

The Guide reflects the best products and services the fleet industry has to offer – many of which were showcased at this year’s Great British Fleet Event in Milton Keynes. Bigger and better than ever with more fleet suppliers, more expert insight from our Masterclass Conference speakers and more reasons for fleet operators to take time out of their busy schedules, the event – again incorporating a busy Exhibition, Conference and Awards – was a resounding success!

Also, in the Great British Fleet Awards 2024, we recognised the very best in fleet, with a lavish black tie dinner and awards ceremony... and my congratulations go to the worthy winners for this year, all of whom you can read about within this Guide.

I would like to extend a personal thank you to all our visitors, exhibitors, event partners/sponsors, and conference Masterclass speakers for sharing their expert insight. It serves to underline the importance of a crucial sector that still accounts for the majority of new vehicle sales in the UK.

We look forward to seeing you again in 2025!

Bynx – Return to Solutions

While constant innovation fleet industry – it’s also

NEW ideas come and go, and pushing the envelope is great, often necessary. Occasionally though, what seems like a great idea doesn’t always turn out the way we thought it might.

Recently, we’ve seen new ideas like carpooling/car sharing schemes which haven’t taken off in the way we all thought they might. They will, but after undergoing some further evolution.

Subscription services gained a lot of momentum and undoubtedly ticked the box in terms of flexibility of ‘ownership’ for the customer, but are very similar to current options, and arrived at a time of increased uncertainty around residual values.

The only thing certain is uncertainty...

When things are uncertain, we return to the things we know. The ideas that work. The tried and trusted that have been stress tested and market proven.

Bynx is one of those tried and tested systems that people know and trust. But that’s continued to develop and improve. Decades of experience work alongside ongoing customer feedback to provide a modular system that allows lease companies and fleet management companies to deliver the solutions that fleet operators need.

n is one of the strengths of the o one of the challenges...

Why Modularity is best

There are lots of great fleet management solutions –but only one of them is a modular solution that allows for a bespoke or tailored approach to fleet support.

Offered as a full end-to-end solution, from acquisition to disposal, offered as individual modules, or bundled for specific segments of our sector such as:

• Fleet Operator

• Short Term Rental

• Fleet Management

• Mobility as a Service

• Accident Management

• Vehicle Leasing & Finance

Bynx allows for the strengths and weaknesses in current fleet support to be taken into account when providing a solution. The ability to choose only the modules you need means you can offer the most appropriate support – focussing your investment on the software solutions where you will get the biggest returns and maximum customer satisfaction

Old fashioned reliability – combines with constant innovation and improvement - to bring you the perfect fleet support solution.

“Bynx is one of those tried and tested systems that people know and trust.”

FLEET MANAGEMENT SUPERSTAR

– SMITH BROTHERS STORES –

Since joining the team at Smith Brothers Stores (SBS) just before the pandemic, transport operations manager Andrew Teer has managed to achieve its first-phase decarbonisation goals while also implementing wider transformative changes across the fleet. The business has now replaced all its conventional petrol/diesel cars with BEVs and PHEVs, backed by companywide charging infrastructure.

That’s by no means all though and Andrew spearheaded the business’s FORS Gold application, further demonstrating exemplary levels of best practice in transport safety, efficiency and environmental protection. SBS is also laying the foundations to ensure the decarbonisation of its LCV and HGV fleets. Its work will definitely be one to watch.

FINANCIAL SUPERSTAR

– MATTHEW NEALE –

Since joining the group in 2021, Matthew Neale has adopted and embedded all four values within the fleet team – with some impressive results.

Achievements include implementing a new fleet management system alongside telematics technology and latest vehicle safety tech. He’s also created a best-in-class fleet management team, revamped the driving for work policy and handbook, shifted to an outright purchase model, introduced electric vans supported by chargers, shifted to a new solus fleet supply de al and launched a sal-sac scheme –among many other accomplishments too.

The result has been savings of some £1.9m – not to mention strong advances in fleet efficiency and driver safety.

ECO SUPERSTAR

SARAH WELLSTEAD –

Going electric can bring many challenges but Sarah Wellstead, senior fleet co-ordinator at engineering consultancy firm Hoare Lea, has shown how a determined and targeted approach can reap benefits. In the last four years, she’s helped change the fleet profile to predominantly BEV, supported by employee events and education and the launch of a BEVonly salary scheme. While the company has also retained a traditional fleet scheme for job-need drivers who can’t go electric, it’s capped CO2 to ensure only low-emission PHEVs are available.

The result has been a big drop in CO2 emissions, some strong results for the ESG team and a great example for other fleets to follow.

The company has an impressive client list in the US and is expanding into other markets too. Visitors to the Great British Fleet Event will have seen one of Canoo’s vehicles and the company will also be attending the CV Show. VAN MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR

Ford set about re-inventing itself last year, gearing up for a future beyond the internal combustion engine. We know the future will be electric, whether using batteries or hydrogen fuel cells. Autonomous vehicles will be part of the picture too, which means connectivity will play a vital role, which in turn opens up other possibilities from predictive maintenance to other services that light CV fleets will become more reliant on in the future. Ford has made no secret of the fact that it needs to be more than a vehicle manufacturer and establishing Ford Pro opens a range of services that van customers need.
