letter from the editor

Dear Friends, When working on each issue of Mingle, I am reminded of the joy and inspiration found within its pages. Looking back through the previous issues is a breath of fresh air, with visually captivating photography and uplifting stories at every turn. Early on in the process, as I start putting together the editorial calendar, I aim to include a little bit of everything — large-scale celebrations like weddings and art retreats, as well as intimate get-togethers such as impromptu movie nights and dinner parties. Birthday bash ideas are a thrill to show off, and there’s something special about our holiday-themed autumn issue that makes me smile. There’s one event element we shine a spotlight on in every issue: tablescape designs. We have featured many, many breathtaking tablescapes in Mingle, so we decided it’s time to highlight our top 50. Please enjoy this collection showcasing designs full of vibrant color, handmade details, creative decorating, and much more. Until next time,

Kamille Martin of BettsMade focused this Mother’s Day lunch on the dishes her parents received as a wedding present. The yellow of the sunflowers was paired with the hues of purple farm flowers for the color scheme. The floral arrangements were picked from the farm and placed in different containers from her parents’ home, and the table was built by Kamille’s husband. Each guest had a place card made by her sisters and set in a lemon to add an extra touch of yellow, tying in the sunflowers from the dishes. For this baby shower, event planner Jeannie Yeoh chose a picnic-style table setting with no chairs balanced with small details by florist Sarah Min. They set up lovely handwritten signs by Paula Lee Calligraphy on handmade parchment paper, and decided to switch up the usual placement of utensils by stacking them. Lastly, they rounded-out the picnic vibe with matching oversized pillows! Photograph: Jenn Liong More from this event can be found in the Spring 2018 Issue of Mingle.

Inspiration for the decor came when Jenny Keller settled on a cobalt blue-andlavender color palette for this event. Kelli of Country Bouquets Floral put together an assortment of wildflowers in vintage glass bottles, jars, and vases that sat atop a blue-purple watercolor runner. Each guest had a personalized hand-lettered place setting, and the rest of the table setting included all the tools needed for the calligraphy lesson. Emily Piepenbrink of Prairie Rose Events & Design planned a patriotic-themed bridal shower with a strong color palette, a rock ’n roll bride-to-be, and whimsical Southern details. Each place setting was a testament to the color scheme and full of Americana details, such as the blue-and-white china. The plates featured indigo-colored etchings of Independence Hall circa 1778, and the vintage red water goblets were emblazoned with stars. Green Finch Floral Design provided the floral arrangement. For her beer-tasting party, Tara Berger of One Stylish Party rented a long farmhouse table made from reclaimed wood, wooden chairs, blue glass water goblets, and mismatched blue china from Borrow Rentals. She purchased an indigo shibori table runner on Etsy by Carmine Textiles, and for the beer tasting, she sourced unfinished wooden beer paddles from Webstaurant Store and painted them with navy blue chalk paint. Each paddle featured sampler glasses and hand-lettered labels. Photograph: Brittany Gidley Photography More from this event can be found in the Spring 2016 Issue of Mingle.

Shannon Von Eschen designed this tablescape with all things Halloween and pirate-themed in mind. With his master carpentry skills, her father helped make almost everything you see pictured with regard to wooden props, including multiple wooden display and banquet tables. Wanting it to be very gluttonous, like true pirates would eat, Shannon arranged a plethora of food and real silver throughout the tablescape, accompanied by a black fabric table runner and gothic candlesticks adorned with spiderwebs. Shannon Von Eschen designed this party to feel like guests were deep within a forest. She covered old wooden tables in forest greenery with copper accents that highlighted the color palette of the great outdoors. The tables and shelves, cake stand, candleholders, and more were all handmade by her father. A handmade woodland animal with interchangeable antlers was placed at each setting to greet the guests upon arrival. Celeste Shaw, an avid lover of all things vintage, fashion, and history, staged a bohemian photo shoot in the Bella Victorian Gardens in Deer Park, Washington. Her goal was to tie the natural elements together with a gemstone color palette. Bright peacock feathers accompanied the menus and bouquets, and leather and wooden details added to the natural scheme. For the seating, cushions were sewn onto old stumps, and all of the log placemats were cut and sealed. More from this event can be found in the Winter 2014 Issue of Mingle.

With this event taking place at the end of summer, Veronica Rogers of Fleurish Events wanted to incorporate amber, gold, orange, and coral tones. The team borrowed furniture from Stylish Patina, a local vintage rental store, as well as vintage china from Something Vintage Rentals. Veronica filled brown paper bags with Ugandan coffee for each attendee to take home and set these bags at each place setting as nametags. The Entertaining Shoppe sure knew what they were doing when they set out to plan a craft beer bash. Instead of floral arrangements, food, beer, and party decor acted as centerpieces. One long table was covered with kraft paper, and rectangular placemats were drawn on it with black markers. Their idea was to transform the table into a Renaissance smorgasbord with food displayed everywhere and with easy access for attendees. Wrapped with the same kraft paper, a 2" x 8" board purchased from the local hardware store sat atop a few square glass vases. Kristy Rice of Momental Designs designed each table, the mantle, and existing chandeliers dripping with maiden hair ferns, raspberry peonies, pepper berry, and dahlias. Place settings were set with an unorthodox flair; intricate watercolor placemats featuring dahlias and berries sat atop floralpatterned linens. Oil-cloth-style napkins held gold flatware and reflected beautifully in the rose gold-on-gold lunch menus. When it came to setting the table for Easter, Shannon Von Eschen enlisted the help of her friend Robyn of Bare Root Flora. Using the eggs Shannon dyed with fruits and botanical imprints as inspiration, Robyn weaved together a living table runner of logs, blooming branches, and beautiful spring flowers. To keep the flowers fresh all day, she tucked each stem into plastic water tubes and hid them among the branches and leaves. She finished off the centerpiece by placing grapes, clippings, and some other dye elements Shannon used for the eggs onto the tablescape to bring it all together.
