Gardener’s Dilemma
—Genesis 2, 3
Unscramble the letters in each section of the garden and write your answer on its line.
In the beginning, the Garden of Eden was the perfect place for the man and woman who lived there. But something went terribly wrong, and they couldn’t stay. Read Genesis 2 and 3. Then put on your gardening hat and identify some of the “growing things” mentioned in this Bible story.

Birth of Isaac —Genesis 17, 18, 21
What’s in a Name?
Names are important. It has been so from the
8 5
beginning.
Among the tribes of Old Testament times, it was a common custom to include a name for God as part of a child’s name. For instance, Obadiah means “servant of Jehovah.” Special events occurring before, during, or after the child’s birth might also be reflected in the chosen name. Girls were often named for beautiful objects in nature, or pleasant qualities of character. For instance, Salome means “peace.”

Abraham Tested
Your Answer After reading the text that follows, arrange the underlined letters to fill in the blanks beside Abraham’s picture.
—Genesis 22
God asked Abraham to do a very difficult thing in sacrificing his son, Isaac. But Abraham trusted God and set out for the region of Moriah. His faith was strong, and he tried to be obedient in all things. Every day he listened for God’s voice in his life. When God calls your name, will you be listening? Will you be ready to follow? Just like Abraham, you can say:

Jacob and Esau
What Is It?
—Genesis 25
Directions: Make a code key by numbering the letters of the alphabet in sequence from 1–26. Let A = 1 and Z = 26. Then use the code key to translate the message.
Esau traded his birthright to Jacob for food. By decoding the following sequence of numbers, you will discover what a birthright meant in Old Testament times.
