Prom
Before the big night. . . Get a date
Here are some ways to ask that person you’ve been crushing on since freshman year:
Spell it out
Make a list
I mean, really, who could go wrong with spelling prom out someway? Whether it be glow sticks, candy, chalk on the sidewalk, in pepperoni on a pizza, or with something related to the sport they play, they’ll have to say yes.
Write out a quick yet heartfelt list of why the other person should accompany you for the night. They really can’t say no to this.
The best friend
Flowers
It doesn’t have to be awkward having a date to prom that you don’t know that well, so why not take someone you’ve been friends with forever? It’s a sure-fire way to have a fun time at prom.
Can you ever really go wrong with a pretty bouquet of flowers? The answer is no. So all you gotta do is find that girl in the hall (with flowers in hand) and say, “Hey, you’re really great and I really like you. Will you go to prom with me?” Boom. Done. They said yes.

How he asked her Adam Williams ‘15 creatively asks Heather Mailloux ‘15 to be his date “Well I told Heather [Mailloux ‘15] earlier that I had hurt myself at my soccer game so I was just going to stay home that night and rest. “So she made plans with Hannah White to go get ice cream and go up to Flagstaff Mountain just to hang out. However, Heather didn’t know that I was actually texting Hannah the whole time while I went up to Flagstaff to set up before they reached the mountain. “Once I was there, I made a
trail of candles from the parking lot up this path that led up these steps. On each step, I put a letter spelling out prom and on the top step I was standing there with flowers. “When she was walking up the path, she thought she was ruining someone else’s prom proposal so she wasn’t really coming up at first. And then she saw me and was like ‘Hey, I know you!’ but she was completely surprised because she thought I was at home. She said yes.” Adam Williams ‘15

And afterwards. . . Head to after prom It’s rumored that After Prom this year is supposed to be the best one yet They’ve been working endlessly for the big night. But for them, the big night is what happens after the DJ stops playing the music down at the Sherman St. Event Center. Kristie Longenbohn and Brigitte Green are the faces leading the After Prom deco-
rating committee. This year, they’re making sure the City Park Rec Center looks nothing like the usual. “That was our goal: we didn’t want it to look like a rec,” Green said. “We wanted you to step into a place that’s different, that’s cool. Obviously the pool is still there,
obviously the basketball court is still there, but we’re going to embellish them.” With stepping in the front doors and entering into Monsters Inc. on a blue carpet, an instructor giving painting lessons, getting to take photos with Johnny Depp among other movie stars, an Alice in Wonderland casino, and a ton of other surprises, After Prom this year is going to be unlike any in the past. “You should see our houses,” Longenbohn said. “Glue guns everywhere, paint. And now we both need manicures.” The committee hard at work has much in store. “We’re not just going to say ‘Oh wow,’ we’re going to go ‘BANG,’” Green said.
Once prom comes to an end, there are only about five short weeks left in the school year. “Really, it’s a time to socialize. Especially for seniors, after this night, graduation comes and it’s quick,” Green said. “I can’t even explain how fast it is.” An event this huge is almost impossible to miss. Students can even go to After Prom without actually going to the dance itself. And the best part? It’s free. “A lot of kids don’t know that it’s free but we want a lot of kids to attend,” Longenbohn said. So once the fun of prom ends, tell your limo driver to take you to the City Park Rec Center stat.
But remember. . .
Don’t waste your time with negativity. Don’t be that person sitting in the corner crying it all out into your friend’s shoulder. Both of you get on the dance floor and dance those emotions away. Then, head to After Prom to win some prizes and be the champion of the rock wall. Make the most of it because, after all, you only get two.
