HOW TO CONTACT YOUR SABBS...

On behalf of the Sabbatical Team and everyone at the Students’ Association, we would like to wish you a warm welcome back to St Andrews! And a particularly special welcome goes out to those students arriving for the first time. In these pages, you’ll learn about everything the Association has in store for the coming semester, from RAG Week to Elections, Bops to Balls, you heard it here first. And with the completion of the £12 million pound Redevelopment Project last semester, we’ve also included details on all the facilities your new union has to offer. Whether the next semester is your first or last, the Students’ Association will be here to make it the most memorable yet!

Our offices are on the middle floor of the Students’ Union and are always open to students when we’re in. If you can’t find us there you can find us online on Twitter and Facebook - just look for @StAPresident, @StADorep, @StADoSDA, @ StADoServ and @StsPresident. SPACES Beacon Bar Our cocktail bar, The Beacon Bar, is one of the most beautiful in town and sits on the top floor of the Union, with its glass walls overlooking the centre of town. This premium bar serves the highest quality cocktails, bottled beers and spirits, as well as having a great selection of Champagne and Prosecco on offer. Whether you’re there for a classy cocktail with your friends, to celebrate that top grade with a glass of Champagne or just want to escape the bustling atmosphere downstairs, the Beacon Bar is there to make sure we can cater for the desires of any student. Beacon Bar can be hired out for events, ask at reception for details.

The Main Bar The Union boasts the biggest and cheapest bar in town, with a 2am licence, seven days a week. We are a bar for students, so we remain as competitive as possible and offer the best-priced pints and drinks in town to help you maintain that overdraft (at least for one more night!). We offer a great range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The main bar is everybody’s favourite destination, be it for a club or society social, a cheap night out, or even as a study space or quick game of pool during the day.

We offer a safe environment for students to enjoy themselves. We did so well on safety, services and variety that our bar won the coveted “Best Bar None” – Gold Award. Although we serve alcohol till late, we still offer the best place to come in and have a soft drink, relax with friends and just soak up the atmosphere; while the bar also serves burgers, full English breakfasts and other meals during the day.

Sandy’s Bar The bar that is quickly becoming the jewel in the Students’ Association’s crown, Sandy’s Bar is the Union’s traditional pub space and sports bar. Sandy’s has a completely different atmosphere to the rest of the Union, with locally brewed ales on offer, a fine selection of whisky and a traditional feel, with Chesterfield sofas and armchairs. Sandy’s Bar has a huge projection screen that is perfect for catching the game and we’ll be showing regular football matches and much, much more in here this year. Finally, the bar will be hosting regular karaoke nights every Friday, so if you can sing, think you can sing, or just enjoy the atmosphere, then you better get down to Sandy’s!

SPACES The StAge

Old Union Coffee Shop

Our performance space boasts a stage and retractable tiered seating, The StAge is ideal for theatrical or musical performances and will also play host to our many comedy events over the course of the year – including student comedy panel show, Bubble Bath, once a month.

The Old Union Coffee Shop on North Street is located only a couple of hundred feet from the doors of the library. Like Rector’s Café, it offers a selection of reasonably priced hot and cold beverages and a range of foods for lunch.

Rector’s Café

Named for the numerous rectors who have graced our seaside town, Rector’s café sits at the front of our union building and its large front windows give the perfect location to people watch as you enjoy what the café has to offer. Rector’s boasts reasonably priced hot and cold drinks as well as wraps, paninis, sandwiches and some other tasty treats. Students and the local population alike have already really taken to Rector’s, and the caffeine-addicted Sabbatical team rarely leave. Rector’s café is the perfect place for students and should prove to be a big part of your university experience while you’re studying here in St Andrews. DID YOU KNOW: The money you spend in all parts of your union goes straight back to fund this student run organisation.
