Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

TALKING WITH TJ

As we begin our journey into the descent of madness that is my mind and the crazy antics of my life, I would like to first introduce myself. My name is TJ, blah blah blah, that sums it up and all you need to know. Whew… got past the CRAP no one cares about! Now for the good stuff.

Mustang culture is one that is very unique and brings together people from all walks of life. One thing is for sure though, the STANG Mag crew isn’t your typical crew. We are a bunch of weirdos, oddballs, and outcasts. We party hard and live by our ride or die motto and have adventures like no other.

From partying in various spots all over the U.S., to touring some of America’s most haunted sites, to having my ass spanked by a beautiful Latina in Las Vegas in front of a restaurant packed full of guests (and owning it), it’s never a dull moment! All I can say is... strap in, rev the shit out of your motor, and let’s go!

BATTLESHIP NEW JERSEY

Boom, Boom, Boom! You know what time of year it is? That’s right, it’s our annual New Jersey Battleship STANG Mag Tour. This year we did something extra special. We spent the night on the ship!

The night view on the battleship was amazing. Philadelphia just lights up at night and creates a beautiful skyline of glistening lights that bounces off the Delaware River. For the overnight crew, the first event was dinner. It was delicious and was not too much or too little. The best part was you literally got to sit in the chow hall and eat as if you were really in the Navy. After dinner we had the battleship tour. This was really cool. We had an actual serviceman from the New Jersey give us a tour. As he gave us the tour, he would tell us little secrets and tid bits of his experiences while serving on the ship. My favorite was the ammunition room where they store the rounds for the guns. Some of the rounds are almost as tall as I am and to move the rounds, they would put oil on the floor to help allow the rounds to slide more easily across the floor.

After the tour we were allowed to explore the ship. They also had a movie playing in the chow hall, Sink the Bismark! I spent my night

walking around the old ship by myself, exploring the various areas. It’s interesting to imagine how people lived on these ships for months at a time.

One interesting thing did happen after everyone went to sleep around 12:00 am. I stayed up as I am a night owl and I was on my phone in the chow hall by myself and all of a sudden I see four guys in their early 20s speed walking towards me wearing special operations helmets and night vision. Now at this point, I am a little sleepy and was like what the hell... we have a SWAT team aboard the USS New Jersey? I was about ready to go find an AR15 and join these guys. It was like a night raid on the USS New Jersey, but seriously I was not expecting that. They went up the ladder to the top side and I didn’t see them again. What happened to these brave souls? Men in Black? I will never know, but God speed

Well afterwards I got tired and finally decided to head below to sleep. We used the original racks to sleep in and I will tell you one thing, they are tiny. I squeezed my fluffy ass in one and it was tight, but honestly it was pretty comfortable once I got into my hole. After waiting an hour for ghosts (which never did show) I passed out and next thing I knew it was morning. They woke us up to Anchors Away, best song ever! And I flopped my jolly ass out of the rack and headed to top deck to see the sunrise. We opted out of morning chow and headed out to a Mexican place for brunch. Well, that was my experience and it was a blast! Anyone can sign up for the overnight sleepover and FYI, it’s cheaper than a hotel! Support the Battleship New Jersey and do it at least once! The story starts early Summer of 2008. For as long as I can remember, the dream of owning a 1967 or 68 Mustang Fastback had yet become a reality. I decided it was time for that to change. Using Craigslist, the search started in Denver, Colorado for a car to restore to glory. I knew purchasing a turn-key was not in the affordability range. After weeks of searching and slowly encircling Colorado state by state, I happened onto a listing in Shelby, Iowa for a 1967 Mustang GT. With one call to the owners to affirm availability and to ask for a VIN number, I called Kevin Marti for some guidance. What I got in response that afternoon on the phone was not what I expected. I was looking at an incredibly factory optioned 1967 Mustang 2+2 Fastback GTA, Dark Moss Green on Saddle interior, equipped with a 390 4V Thunderbird Special powerplant mated to a C6 Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic and 9” 3.25 Equa-Lok axle ratio providing traction. I were on our way to Shelby, Iowa with hopes of bringing the car home the NEXT day. What we found was a Mustang that was fully intact ready for its second chance at present day glory.

Mustang home to start its ‘Back2Life’ restoration. Born in San Jose, California on June 20, 1967 with an MSRP of $4437.19, shipped to Bloomington, Minnesota and finding its way to Shelby, we were the 3rd owners to make Denver the new home. Of the 472,209 1967 Mustangs, 943 were Dark Moss Green, 33 were Saddle décor interiors, 26 were GTs, 2 were equipped with tilt-away steering and 1 with styled steel wheels. That ONE car was our new hands-on restoration project.

Today, after so much blood, sweat, and tears, our beloved Fastback enjoys weekly drives, weather permitting of course, along with its younger brother – our 1992 True Blue Fox. Long live the Mustangs and our beloved classics, whatever they are!

Full frame off restoration occurred in the garage and was completed 5 years later in the summer of 2013. The internet during that time wasn’t the vast resource it is today. To secure NOS parts and restoration services required word of mouth, visiting swap meets and car shows, comparing pictures and making hundreds of phone calls. The fire breathing 390 big block controlled by MSD’s Atomic EFI injection system along with the original C6 were brought back to life. Mid restoration, full convenience control group was added to the factory center console light locations. Special thanks to Pat Callahan and the team at Hopp’s Auto Body Inc. for the incredible body restoration and eye-popping paint work. Final touch was having a full sound and security

THE MEMORY OF MY GRANDFATHER WILL LIVE ON THROUGH THIS CAR.

I purchased this Mustang from my Grandpa right out of high school. It was a complete restoration from ground up as it was sitting in 5” of mud with a six foot tree growing through the windshield. All body panels are the OE steel other than quarter panels, floor pans and some metal. I painted it Grabber Green with all Black interior. The car was completely wired by Brad Barshinger with a digital MSD 6AL box and Leash nitrous controller and is fed by a MagnaFuel ProStar 500 electric fuel pump.

The car is built for heads up racing while it also sees its fair share of car shows and street miles. It has become a legendary icon in the Tri-state area drag strips. It has won multiple awards at car shows while also collecting cash at the strip. The 1969 Mustang has always been my dream car and I happened to be lucky enough to own one. The memory of my Grandfather will live on through this car.

I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

Let’s just say, it was the wife’s fault back when we were dating. We both had GM vehicles but she ended up seeing this black 98 V6 Mustang at a dealership. She would constantly keep bringing it up and she wanted me to look at it cause she wanted it. So I looked at it and it came home with us. About a year or so went by after that and I was on the search for my own Mustang. I found a 99 GT and that was the start of the Mustang craze for me. Here we are now and I’m on my 5th Mustang, a 2019 GT Premium. And I’m sure there’ll be more.

Life is too short to drive boring cars and I’ve made this current Mustang everything but boring with suspension changes using Ford Performance and Steeda, wheels VF9s from Velgen Wheels, exhaust from AWE Tuning, exterior parts from Scott Drake, and the most noticeable change being the stripe work from Stoneburner Customs. This car is a blast to drive and it’s daily driven year round. These cars are meant to be driven.

Her name is Estella, the 66 Convertible. She is Ivy Green with White Parchment Top. Her interior is Pony Ivy Gold and Parchment. This is an original San Jose built car that my uncle bought new in 66. She has been in the family her whole life and has only 58K miles.

Living in snow country in far Northern California, she is a summer only vehicle and is stored away from all weather in the winter so she is truly a California rust free car. I had her repainted a couple years ago in her original color by a local auto restoration shop. Interior has been replaced with the original colors.

She has minimal modifications. My goal is to restore her back like new. I have rebuilt the 289 original motor, all serial numbers match. She also has the original C4 auto transmission.

My passion for Mustangs really began with the Need for Speed movie. I liked them before but that one started my love for the S197 body style. This particular car drew me in at first because of how bright the white and how much it emphasized its retro styling. Then I test drove it and the feeling of this car the first time is something I will never forget. Something about it spoke to me, I knew I had to have it this car.

When I first got this car I did not expect for it to turn into what it has become, at least not in the 5 years that I have owned it as it was stock when I had first gotten it. This car is one of the reasons that my wife and I met as we are both car people. I have made so many friends all over the country because of this car and have had so many adventures with it.

The car made 1100whp and 900 ft lbs on the hub dyno at only 15psi of boost with plenty more room turn up more. (Had exhaust pipe failure on dyno). So far we have been able to go 9.84 @ 146 mph in the quarter mile. The goal for this setup is to go low 9s or high 8 seconds in the quarter mile. To me this car is not just a car, it is truly a extension of myself. I love everything about this car. I have built it from the ground up so it has a special place in my heart.

Rain or shine, this Mustang is my trusted daily driver. Every inch of this car, both seen and unseen, has been carefully maintained and customized by my own hands. This 2015 Mustang GT Premium car has the new version Cobra Jet intake ported by 1320 Junkie, VMP twin 69mm throttle body, a P51 cold air intake, and Corsa Extreme exhaust tuned for E85 by Lund Racing. This car is a fun weekend cruiser and has that little extra sauce for going out and having a little fun. With the added GT500 style front bumper and quad tip exhaust along with 20” Forgestar F14 wheels tucking 325s in the back, this car definitely catches your eye when you hear the familiar Mustang roar coming. Last but not least with the upgraded 2018 digital dash, performance pack gauges, and some carbon fiber styling it definitely steps up finishing the interior of this Mustang.

my Grandpa and Dad, I always had a set of hands and some extra knowledge when I needed it. As I made my adventure through my Mustangs going from the 87 LX, a 99 GT supercharged, 2000 turbocharged 5.4 GT, a 2012 Roush and the 2015 GT “Mosauce” I have now, nothing has made me smile more than the people I have met, the car clubs I have seen and been a part of, and the passion for the builds! That was of course until June of 2021 when we had our son Theo. It has been amazing watching him the past year and a half seeing his excitement for the car, and already his involvement and passion for cars begin to grow and drive a new generation of stallions to the heard.

My name is Trinity Goodell from Stanhope, Iowa. I’m the owner of this beautiful 1985 Saleen. It is car #65 and the car is a 1 of 1 as built.

It’s a 302 5 speed. Mods are aftermarket headers, h-pipe and 3.73 gears with Koni suspension.

The first year for the Saleen Mustang was 1984 and they only built 3 cars that year and 1985 being the second year of production they produced 139 Saleen Mustangs.

It’s one of my favorites in my collection.

Oh my, this 2021 Shelby GT500 is the most outstanding car I’ve ever had. I am so blessed to own a car that I thought would only be a dream.

There are days that I can hang out in the shop, polishing it over and over just to sit down and stare at it like a piece of art. Fortunately, this piece of art is for more than just sitting pretty. I get to drive it and whoa baby this car will get up and move.

Whether you are driving down a strait away on the highway or on the back country roads, banking into the curves, this car just never stops to continually impress. I do not drive it every day, but whether I am just opening the garage door to look at it or I’m taking it for an afternoon drive; it never ceases to put a smile on my face and make the troubles just fade away.

Current mods include SV 602 Signature wheels finished in Liquid Platinum, custom polished billet lid by LMT, carbon fiber rear spoiler, front air dam, mirror covers, bumper, cover, and hood vent, JLT cold air intake, custom wider blue stripes, and assorted Shelby polished covers.

IT’S NO WONDER THIS CAR, IMPORTED BY PILGRIM MOTORSPORTS, TURNS HEADS...

My name is Liam O’Reilly and I am from West Sussex, England. I’ve got a belter of a car I think you’ll be interested in.

It’s a standout 1965 Ford Mustang Restomod Coupe, an “A Code” originally from California, that’s causing a proper stir.

If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

The near-perfect Pearlescent Orange paint job with Windsor White stripes makes a real statement. It’s not just a pretty face, though. This car has seen some top-notch restoration and modern upgrades that set it apart from the crowd. It was even awarded a Top 10 Rosette by the judges at the Classic Ford Show 2023.

This Mustang has been kitted out with LED headlights, the light buttons have been relocated, and an electronic handbrake has been installed. For a touch of luxury, there are electric windows and central locking. The interior has been given a full makeover with bespoke leather, wrapped door cards, and a dash pad and TMI seats. It starts at the push of a button and has a touchscreen stereo. The boot build and JL Audio system will blow you away.

But the upgrades don’t stop there. Future plans include swapping the 302 engine for a 347 stroker, changing the C4 transmission to a T5 manual, and overhauling the suspension and brakes. It’s no wonder this car, imported by Pilgrim Motorsports, turns heads wherever it goes.

Other upgrades will include electric windows, central locking, push start, e-brake, Pioneer wireless airplay audio, custom boot build, and custom interior. Dakota Digital dials are on order and I recently bought a Paxton Novi 1200 supercharger and plan to fit it in the next 6 months along with coil over suspension conversion, uprated headers, bigger brakes, and a transmission upgrade.

“JUST THE TIP

SMOKE ‘EM IF YOU GOT ‘EM

I know we all keep our cars in pristine shape, and no one has ever had a problem with any of their vehicles smoking out of the exhaust pipes. But if you do see a car that is smoking from the exhaust, the color of the smoke can tell you a lot about what is going on. What does different colored smoke mean?

Black – Black smoke out of the exhaust means your air to

fuel ratio is too rich. Too much gas for the amount of air that is going into the engine. This could be caused by a leaking fuel injector, a faulty fuel pressure regulator, or a bad air filter. If your engine is running this rich, it can cause serious problems and your Check Engine light is probably glowing proudly.

Blue-ish – The blue smoke can be hard to tell from grey smoke. You really need good light to see it, but you’ll notice a slight blue hue to the color. This is generally caused

by an engine that is burning oil. This is probably caused by worn engine components such as valve seals, PCV valves or worn piston rings.

White or Grey - Billowing white or grey smoke that does not go away, means you have a serious problem. This is caused by engine coolant leaking into one or more of the combustion chambers. This could be caused from a multitude of things, from a cracked cylinder head, cracked block, blown head gasket, or several other factors. Whichever it is, it’s going to be a costly repair to take care of.

Steam – OK you got me. It’s not smoke. But just because something that looks like white smoke is coming out of your exhaust does not mean it’s smoke. Water is a natural biproduct of fuel combustion, and coming out of a hot engine, that water will turn to steam. Steam coming out of your exhaust should evaporate and dissipate rather quickly once in contact with the air, whereas smoke will continue to drift in the air.

If your car is billowing black, blue, white and grey smoke at the same time, just call the coroner and get it over with. It’s dead.
