MAGAZINE

Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

Hi, My name is Stephen Martin. I have always been interested in cars, started early with my dad and brother. Fun fact: my brother Mark Martin was featured in STANG Magazine back in December 2020. He has a 2011 GT500 named Venom. My brother and I are both able to share the same passion for our cars, so it makes it that much better. We love the adventures our Mustangs take us on and the people we meet along the way. Sometimes it might be a car show, drag racing, or might just be cruising. I have always loved Mustangs. They bring a smile to my face when seeing them or hearing them. Not to mention always seeing them in iconic movies.

I chose the 2019 GT/CS because you don’t see a lot of them around and they are a little different from the standard Mustang. I like to be different and this is why I went old school with chrome wheels and the original 1968 California stripes.

If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

My interest in cars, and particularly Mustangs, was brought on by my grandpa. Seeing pictures and hearing his stories about his past Mustangs made me want a Mustang of my own. After owning a Sonic Blue 2002 V6 Mustang for a few years I was able to order my Lightning Blue 2017 GTCS. The car is optioned out with auto transmission, 3.55 gears, black painted roof, and 401a equipment group. Over the years I have slowly worked my way up from simple bolt-ons to a centrifugal supercharger with a return style fuel system tuned on e85.

Each year I enter several car shows, take the car to the local drag strip, and even spend some time opening the car up on a road course nearby. I fully intend to keep this car, and keep improving this car, for a very long time. My hope is that by being active in the local community, I can help inspire the next generation of car enthusiasts.

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

GROWING UP I ALWAYS HOPED I WOULD OWN A MUSTANG...

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

Mustangs have been my favorite car since I had a Tootsie Toy metal Mustang as a kid in the late 60s. Growing up I always hoped I would own a Mustang someday. Today I am lucky enough to own two. This 1968 Mustang GT/CS California Special and a 1996 Mustang GT Convertible with 45,000 miles on it. I’m the original owner of my 96. Mustang Fever runs throughout my family. Aunts, uncles, and nephews have owned them over the years. My son and daughters are hoping to have one of their own one day as well. So far, they have only had a Power Wheel version. We recently added a new addition to our family, a 14-week-old puppy. Her name is Shelby.

This is my second GT/CS. My first one looked exactly the same but was a 3-speed manual, with a 302 engine, dealer installed a/c, manual steering and manual brakes. I sold that car and purchased this car off of eBay in 2007. This car is a 289 automatic with power steering and power brakes.

I am the sixth owner of this car and have been in contact with all but the original owner. The original owner parked the car for many years in her backyard and eventually donated it to her church. The car at one point was involved in a divorce proceeding. The future ex-wife of the owner at the time wanted the car. To make sure she wouldn’t get the car, he quietly sold it back to the person he purchased it from.

I enjoy driving this car and don’t trailer it. I have taken a number of 3-to-5-hour road trips over the years to attend shows such as the Adirondack Nationals in Lake George, NY and Ford Carlisle. You don’t see many California Specials in the Northeastern U.S. so people are always curious to hear its

history. I enjoy telling the history of these limited-edition cars. Some of my favorite conversations take place at gas stations while I’m refueling.

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

I am originally from Australia and I always dreamed about owning a Mustang but never thought it would be a reality, until I ended up here in the United States.

I bought this Mustang as a barn find when my daughter was born. The previous owner didn’t really know much about the California Special as it was her father’s. He was the second owner.

It has always been in California and I’ve been restoring it to what it is today. Eventually, my daughter (she’s 4) will have it as her own and will have a classic to hold on to.

Being in Los Angeles, the car has appeared in movies, music videos, and photoshoots for fashion brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle.

Casper is my 2016 Mustang California Special that I named after my father’s racecar. It was only fitting that while searching for a new car he found one that was 2-3 hours away just to look at. When I first saw the car I knew I wanted it but wasn’t sure about pulling the trigger. After talking it out with mom and dad we decided to pull the trigger now, rather than wait. A week later, we were driving up there to finalize the deal and I’m driving Casper home.

I had the car in California as my daily driver to and from work and I didn’t care where I went. I was having fun in my new car. I knew after the drive home lots of money was going to be invested into this and I was going to be broke. LoL. Now I can start going to car shows and actually competing and not just attending as a spectator. I knew my life in the car community was going to change and I was going to meet interesting new people along the way.

Since owning Casper, I started in California meeting some great people there through shows and other Mustang events. I also met my now beautiful wife Nikki Curatolo from her Instagram page because of owning Casper. Because of my car my life has changed for the better and I

Faith is being built to honor our men and women of the United States military. Without their sacrifice we would not have what we have today. My love for Mustangs all started when my brother got an ‘89 LX. It was BEAUTIFUL. I wanted my own so bad, but daddy said I couldn’t have a fast car since I had recently totaled my ‘83 Thunderbird. He did find me a Mustang, though - a ‘93, red, 4 cylinder automatic. I drove it for years. I loved that car even though it wouldn’t get anywhere with a quickness.

Fast forward 20 years and here I am, the proud owner of a 5.0 manual - certainly a Fast Pony. I accidentally stumbled across this California Special on a showroom floor in Memphis when out window shopping for a Mustang. Someone had special ordered this beauty and backed out - leaving room for me to scoop it up just in time.

This is my daily driver, so nothing more than a few cosmetic upgrades at this time. It has rear window louvers, quarter window Eleanor style louvers, and a Gumball shift knob.

I bought this to drive to Mustangs at Daytona 2022 and it was a great decision. I love this stang and want to keep it mostly stock since it’s a California Special. However, I had to add my touches changing a few things that can be changed back easily.

It started off with Gloss Graphite SVE SP2 wheels and Nitto 555 G2 tires. Front is 19x10 with 285/35/19 and back is 19x11 with 305/35/19. Then I added the custom made strut tower covers, Cervini Cobra R hood, custom made H pipe to do resonator delete, GT/CS stripe delete with custom GT/CS vinyl emblems, and MP Concepts side window scoops.

Special thanks to Accents Customz, Fort Loudon Automotive, Custom Strut Tower Covers, CJ Pony Parts, American Muscle, Cervini, and STANG Magazine.

RHEA - 2020 MUSTANG CALIFORNIA SPECIAL

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

I have loved Mustangs since I was 14 years old, but I never had the ability to own one until I reached almost 50. I even bought my daughter a Mustang (2002 V6) before I was able to get mine. Some of my family and friends will even say that I traded my wife, now former, for my first Pony in 2018, and that might be true. When I saw this beautiful 2020 California Special on the dealer’s website I really didn’t know much about them. I searched the web and found out the California Specials have literally a cult-like following. I knew I needed to part of that family, so down to the dealer I went and traded my 2018 on the 2020. I might get another Mustang down the road, but Rhea will never leave my side. In case you are wondering, she is named after Rhea Ripley, a pro wrestler. Ripley is a woman known for intimidating her opponents in the ring and this S550 does the same to me everyday.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. Springs make the car just that much better. A few details, like a painted engine cover and strut covers, to make her feel pretty when I pop the hood always make me smile.

In my opinion, the Mustang is pound for pound and dollar for dollar the best performance car you buy. No other car is even close. Current mods on this Cali Special include Steeda Progressive Springs, Injen CAI, Bama Rev-X Tune, Rousch H-Pipe, Pirelli P-Zero Tires, and RPI Painted Engine Cover.

I love the overall look of the California Special so much that I haven’t done much in the way of modifications. Rhea is my daily driver so I just wanted to add mods to make her mine and make the drive even more enjoyable. I live not too far away from the North Georgia mountains, so when I get the time, I try and take her through those nice tight and twisty roads. While the S550 is a wonderfully built car, just a few simply tweaks like CAI, Bama Rev-X tune, and Steeda

I bought Sally new in July of 2014. I have always had a passion for Mustangs, and when it was time to replace my car, my son recommended looking at a Mustang. My wife saw her first, and I just fell in love with the Deep Impact Blue color. Over the years I have added many modifications to make her my own and could never think of selling her. She is just as much fun now, as she was 9 years ago.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. I attend many car shows with her and other people seem to enjoy her almost as much as I do and she has won me countless awards and trophies. The Mustang community is a close knit fun group, always willing to help each other out. Although she is getting up in years she still turns heads and nothing can beat the sound of a Coyote with long tube headers, Roush exhaust and PMAS intake. She handles great, sounds great, and looks great. What more

could an old man ask for?

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

Mods include Niche Methos wheels, Cervinis functional ram air hood, Lund 93 octane race tune, PMAS tuned CAI, color matched engine components, custom graphics/striping, Eleanor style side scoops, Koni shocks/struts, MBRP long tube headers/Roush axlebacks, Eibach lowering springs, BMR panhard bar, custom shifter, carbon fiber interior trim, Acceletec steering wheel, Kenwood stereo, Memphis Audio speakers, and 1000 watt Picasso amp.

STELLA –2022 MUSTANG CALIFORNIA SPECIAL IT’S A MUSTANG LIFE FOR ME!

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

I have drooled over Mustangs for as long as I can remember. I was a teenager in the 80s and yes I wanted a Foxbody Mustang in a bad way; 2 or 4 eyes, I didn’t care lol. But alas, the money just wasn’t there for me at the time. Then in my early 20s, when I could afford one, Mustangs weren’t practical and I let everyone talk me out of purchasing one.

Fast forward to 2007. I lost 100 pounds and as a gift to myself, I purchased my first Mustang (Annabel), a factory ordered 2007 Grabber Orange GT and it was everything I’d ever dreamt it would be and then some. I put over 220k miles on her in the ten years I used her as a daily driver before life situations changed and I found myself needing a more practical car once again. That started a 6 year journey of going through vehicle after vehicle. Nothing felt right, there was always a problem and whereas I was constantly working on Annabel, I never really got into working on any of those other cars. Even simple mods seemed like too much trouble.

In 2022, I retired and no longer needed to have a practical car anymore. My wife gave me the go ahead to get my ultimate retirement gift and I ordered my new Mustang, Stella, in May of 2022. After a long 5 month wait, I picked her up in October. I’ve already replaced the tires, did a few cosmetic mods, and have an eye on some functional mods (hello Borla Stingers!). Stella still has under 5k miles and I’m guessing she’ll never hit the 220k that Annabel did but she proved to me that I have Mustang in my blood. It’s a Mustang life for me!

I have always dreamed of owning a muscle car, specifically a Mustang dating back to high school (many years ago). Living in northeastern Ohio makes it difficult to drive a Mustang yearround, especially with a live axle and I couldn’t afford to own two cars with a house payment and kids. With the kids grown up and the release of the S550, I could finally afford two cars. The only thing standing in my way from getting an S550 was my wife and I won’t tell you about the bribe it took for her to finally give me the thumbs up on the purchase, lol. The California Special was released in 2016 and it reminded me of the 71-73 Mustang Mach One which is my favorite classic model of the Mustang. That was the package I wanted with my S550 GT Premium.

Being the impatient person I am with getting a new car, I opted to find one at a dealership instead of waiting the six months when ordering one. I wanted one in Ruby Red, how-

ever, I couldn’t find any CS Mustangs available in Ohio. Now I am not a fan of the color yellow on cars, but as I expanded my search, I found the yellow one that I own at a dealership in Pittsburgh. It was love at first sight. The black trim and striping in the CS package (and factory painted black roof) made the car pop. The only problem was that I had to drive an hour and a half out to Pittsburgh to pick it up and beat a snowstorm that was about to rain a foot of hell down by where I live. I just made it home before the snowfall began coming down heavy.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

I have added the center stripe along with other visual mods over the years. I have been waffling with the idea of boosting it for a few years now. I just haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

It’s a great honor to be a part of this specific issue, highlighting one of the most iconic versions of the Mustang. When they brought it back in 2007 it was amazing how they included the Fastback look and the stance.

This is my 2007 California Special called “STORM E”. I never get tired of driving this car, it’s such a fun car to cruise around in. My love for the most iconic muscle car has been for as far back as I can remember.

Modifications include Detroit rocker cams, Pypes long tube headers, Roush catback extreme exhaust, and Ford Performance handling and lowering kit.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE FEELING OF DRIVING HER AROUND TOWN...

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

Meet Twinkie. She is lady owned, lady driven, and has won several awards including Best in Class. She was custom ordered, factory original with Active Valve Performance exhaust.

We have been a Ford family for over 20 years. As a family we have owned several Mustangs but they were my husband’s or my kid’s – not mine. When I saw the local Ford dealer post a mischievous purple Mustang for sale, I knew it was time for a vehicle just for me.

I drove several Mustangs on their lot and could not find just the right one – then I saw the black on black with red accents GT/CS. I asked the dealer to start the black on black Mustang. The moment I heard her start I knew she was coming home with me. The rumble was (and still is) soothing to my soul.

I am so glad I was at the right place at the right time for this Mustang. I realized, after I purchased her, she was not just any regular Mustang – she was a California Special. Not knowing anything about California Specials I took to the internet and came across a great group – California Special

Worldwide Mustang Club who helped me fully understand what makes Twinkie so special.

I absolutely love the feeling of driving her around town, going to car shows, talking to people about what makes Twinkie different from your everyday Mustang, and being part of the family of California Special owners and the larger family of Mustang owners.
