Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. TALKING WITH TJ

As we begin our journey into the descent of madness that is my mind and the crazy antics of my life, I would like to first introduce myself. My name is TJ, blah blah blah, that sums it up and all you need to know. Whew… got past the CRAP no one cares about! Now for the good stuff.

Mustang culture is one that is very unique and brings together people from all walks of life. One thing is for sure though, the STANG Mag crew isn’t your typical crew. We are a bunch of weirdos, oddballs, and outcasts. We party hard and live by our ride or die motto and have adventures like no other.

From partying in various spots all over the U.S., to touring some of America’s most haunted sites, to having my ass spanked by a beautiful Latina in Las Vegas in front of a restaurant packed full of guests (and owning it), it’s never a dull moment! All I can say is... strap in, rev the shit out of your motor, and let’s go!

STANGS & SHENANIGANS

We are in full swing this car season. Our first major tour was the Stangs and Shenanigans Tour 2023. On this tour it started off as a rainy day. Our Stang enthusiasts arrived at 9:00 am for the car and coffee meet at Gettysburg, PA, and man was it pouring. I can only imagine what people were thinking looking at close to 20 people standing outside in the rain on a Saturday morning at Dunkin Donuts. After everyone had arrived it was off to explore Gettysburg battlefield. Here is where it got crazy trying to get 20 something Mustangs through downtown Gettysburg was a challenge. Between the onslaught of rain, the many stoplights, and the heavy traffic we experienced that day, we are lucky any of us survived. But thankfully we rucked it out through downtown Gettysburg, lost no one and proceeded to tour the battlefield. Gettysburg as many will probably already know,

was a place where more that 50,000 soldiers had lost their lives in 3 days during the Civil War. It is considered the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. It is a very important battle for us on the east coast because it stopped the Confederate momentum from moving north and gave the north a much needed victory. It is often called the turning point of the war. Our tour took us past the Gettysburg National Cemetery which is where over 6,000 United States soldiers and Veterans are buried. From there we drove all over the park, looking at the different monuments and statues. At the end of the battlefield cruise, we ended up at the Pennsylvania Monument. This monument

commemorates the 34,530 Pennsylvania soldiers who fought in the July 1-3, 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. From here we went to our favorite watering hole, Gary Owens. I refer to this as our Headquarters since many of our weekly meetings occur here. Gary Owens is an old Civil War era building that has more than 120 whiskies, Ireland’s draft beers, and amazing Irish food. You can literally feel the history in this building and it is also believed to be haunted as many of our members have had experiences here of the other world. Now trying to get our group in here was a challenge, as Gary Owens is a very popular place in downtown Gettysburg, so we did the best thing possible, we

swarmed the building exactly at opening, 11:00 am. The food was amazing as usual and the alcohol, well let’s just say I made some new friends that day, Sláinte. If you go here, be sure to try the drinks, you won’t be disappointed.

Next on our journey was the World War II American Experience right outside of Gettysburg. This place is cool. There are actual tanks, jeeps, uniforms, weapons, and landmines all original from World War II. There are some replicas, but few, as it is mostly original stuff. An interesting fact is that after World War II, a lot of the Veterans came back and settled near Gettysburg, PA. These Veterans over the years started to collect these old Jeeps, trucks, and tanks, as they were sold off to the public for dirt cheap back then.

Well, they decided to come together and create a museum dedicated to their experiences in World War II. Every piece of history and war trophy has a story in this museum. There is even an actual Japanese flag fully signed by the Japanese soldiers, which was used by them in World War II. It’s an amazing museum, and highly recommended to anyone who goes. I mean there is even a pub inside the museum. How many museums do you know have a pub?

Next on the stop was the Battlefield Brew Works and Spirits. Now this place is unique in that it was an old barn that was used as a civil war hospital. A few years ago, the owners converted it to a brewery. What is cool about this place, is that you are actually standing in the same place that was the spot for many civil war

soldiers who came in looking for dire need of medical attention. This place is believed to be highly haunted and a few friends of ours have had other worldly experiences here. One experience that stands out was one night, as we were walking to our cars, we had this experience almost like walking through a vortex. It was very odd, where your skin start to get cold and the hairs stand up. We didn’t see anything other than this odd warbling effect walking through whatever this was, but it was definitely strange. Ironically as we walked past this wierd vortex that was between two tree lines, there was an old hearse that was just chilling in the field. Now I love hearses, so as you can imagine, I did what I do, I went over and started to take pictures of it. It was a beautiful light blue color which apparently was used by the brewery as a pro-

To end the tour, we had dinner at Savor Hood. Savor Hood is an old biker bar that was converted to a foodhall style restaurant, sporting 10 different food choices and a taproom/bar. This place is a culinary delight. You can get anything from cheesesteaks, buffalo wings (highly recommended), woodfire pizza, BBQ, seafood, and ice cream. The ice cream is out of this world, just wow. It is a local favorite called Mr. G’s. I got the salted caramel and cookies and cream cup. Super creamy and melts in your mouth, with nice chunks of cookies. All freshly made. It was a hell of a day and one for the books. Until next time, saddle up, strap in, and don’t do something I would do, unless you want to wreak havoc, in that case Do IT, just DO IT!

My love for Mustangs started as a teenager in the 80s and early 90s. My first car was the slower horse, the 1979 Pinto. My love for Mustangs grew with the Foxbody platform. Being around those who had one or sitting around drooling at the dealerships around Arlington, Texas just enhanced the desire to own one and in the early 2000s, I bought my first Mustang. It was a 1982 GT nicknamed Rustang. I ran that little high output 302 three speed with overdrive until I warped the iron heads and cracked the case.

I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

Around 2015 I caught the bug again and began looking for a 2004 Mach 1. While visiting Bill Fox Auto Sales in Dover, PA, I discovered this beautiful red machine. The car is a survivor being considered totaled before being brought back to life by Bill Fox and his crew. She has been to many events, especially when running with the California Special Worldwide Mustang Club, Mustanb Club of Central PA, and Red Mustang Registry. She has ran CJ Pony Parts Trails and showed at Carlisle Ford Nationals for the last six years and many smaller shows around central PA and northern Maryland. She has also made it down to Sevierville, TN three times. Two times for Ponies In The Smokies and once to run the Tail Of The Dragon. With only 84,000 miles on her, there is plenty more experiences to be made and upgrades to come. Keep an eye out for her!

WHEN LIFE GETS TOUGH, I KNOW I CAN DRIVE ELVIRA...

I have loved Mustangs since I was in high school in the 1980s. During high school, my first Mustang was a 1979 Mustang GHIA, which made me the coolest kid in the school parking lot. I also met my wife in high school, which I am obligated to say was the best part of school. I have owned a total of 5 Mustangs over the years. In 2008, I bought a base V6 automatic, with only 5 miles on it (which were my test drive miles) and I named her Elvira.

I realized the new S197 had a whole aftermarket industry of modifications to acquire and I started with a BBK cold air intake that came in chrome with a blue filter. I have themed all the mods in the engine and throughout with chrome and blue accents. I have added quite A LOT of modifications over the 15 years since I first bought my 2008.

I have lost both my parents and my wife suffered a stroke in 2018 and has medical issues from it. When life gets tough, I know I can drive Elvira to the car wash or the grocery store and get a boost from people stopping and asking about her. She is like a mini traveling car show. I enjoy doing small town car shows and talking muscle cars with other enthusiasts. It is a chance to step back from regular life and feel like that high school kid again.

I have taken Elvira to numerous car shows and have won trophies and awards. I store Elvira every winter, and after 15 years, only have 18,000 miles on it.

IT TOOK ME ONE DAY TO FINALIZE THE DEAL AND I DROVE OFF THE LOT WITH MY DREAM CAR.

When I was a rookie firefighter I did not own a car. My mother agreed to help me buy my first car. I went to Marcotte Ford in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

I test drove a 1972 Mustang Fastback that I fell in love with. Alas it was not to be, as my mother took one look at the car and said it’s too fast pick something else. I ended up in a 1973 Ford Galaxie four door sedan.

Fast forward to 1999. I was having my van worked on at Family Ford in Chicopee when I spotted a 1999 Mustang GT coupe. It took me one day to finalize the deal and I drove off the lot with my dream car.

Since then I have had a 2006 GT Convertible, a 2013 GT/ CS, a 2015 50th Anniversary Edition GT, and my current car, a 2019 GT PP2 that I ordered from Marcotte Ford.

I am a retired firefighter/EMT with the Springfield, Massachusetts Fire Department. During my career I was assigned to Engine 8 the Heavy Rescue, Ambulance 1, Engine 10, dispatch, and ended my career with the Fire Prevention

Division where I was Assistant Fire Marshal.

This car was a check on my dream car list. This was my first car that I ever built and had the opportunity to learn a lot of things on. Meeting the same kind of passionate people in the hobby of cars and just bringing smiles to the little kids that sit in the car is worth all the hard work. I always wanted a car that I could drag down the track and just honestly enjoy the weather. This car kept me motivated through school and working endless hours to build it to where I am. To this day I

still fight to try and find someone to sponsor this one of one paint job car but still no one wants to bite. The grind keeps going and like Gavin from Itsjusta6 says, “Don’t lose sight.” I haven’t and one day I could make it to that dream light spot.

SHE IS ALL FACTORY ORIGINAL AND I PLAN TO KEEP HER THAT WAY.

My Mustang is a 2002 base model Convertible. Her name is Fiona. She is all factory original and I plan to always keep her that way. She has 86,000 original miles on her. She is painted Tropical Green, Ford Paint code SU with the interior and soft top code TH. She has Medium Parchment leather interior and soft top, electric power windows, door locks, full power driver’s side seat, the original stereo with the 360-sound system and her AC still blows cold air. Everything works and looks as it did the day she rolled out of the Dearborn Assembly Plant which was part of the legendary Ford River Rouge complex. The Rouge as it was referred to produced the Mustang for 40 years, 1964 ½ to 2004. She was 1 of 142,647 Mustangs built is 2002 with 3,445 being Amazon Tropical Green.

Her drive train is the 3.8 Lt Essex V6. 232 cu. displacement producing 193 HP at 5500 RPM with 225 LB/FT of torque at 2800 RPM. The transmission is the 4R70W with a 7.5 rear end and 327 gears. She sports Kumho 235/55/R17 on the factory

rims. I keep her engine and engine bay as clean as the exterior. I recently registered her in the Official Green Mustang Registry with the number #0810.

How I enjoy my life in a Mustang? I belong to a couple of local Mustang clubs. Along with my husband who has his own Mustang, I show her at car shows. I take her on car club cruises and on day trips around Ohio. You can always find me cruising the cost line of Lake Erie with the top down and the tunes playing. She has never been driven in snow or rain. I am a fanatic at keeping her clean and polished. I always cover her up when resting in the garage, awaiting her next outing with family and friends.

THIS PASSION FOR CARS HAS ALLOWED ME TO MEET SOME AMAZING PEOPLE...

I fell in love with the Mustang when I was a young boy. I learned how to drive on an ’86 5 speed 5.0 and bought my first Mustang, an ‘87 LX, at age 19. Feeling other things in life were becoming a priority, I sold it at 27, ensuring it went to someone who would love it and appreciate it the same way that I did.

It wasn’t long before I realized there was a void in my life, one that only a Mustang could fill. I purchased a ’93 LX, built it, and realized that I didn’t only love Mustangs I was obsessed with them. I wanted what was “next level” and purchased this ’04 Cobra in Redfire Metallic.

I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

Some features include Griggs Racing suspension, polished Bassani exhaust, Bassani long tube headers, Whipple supercharger, 2 pump fuel system, 3.73 gears, twin disc clutch , custom interior and CCWs., as well as many other upgrades. With all the work and efforts put into this car, I thought I would

have been fulfilled, but once again I found myself wanting more.

I purchased a ’21 GT 500 (nicknamed Attitude) in Carbonized Gray. This car features Steeda springs, Borla Atak exhaust, SPE carbon fiber intake, (many other carbon fiber accents), custom oil covers, 3 piece Forge Line rims, and the car is fully PPF’d.

This passion for cars has allowed me to meet some amazing people, make memories, and co-found The Vicious Stangs of Long Island, a club geared towards promoting the love of Mustangs in our community.

My name is Charles and I was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at the age of 7 and was placed in a wheelchair. I have never driven any car, not even my own, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have passion for the car game and being competitive. I do all the research for what mods to do, what’s best to go fast, and I pay the bill. I have a driver that I’ve been friends with since elementary school. His name is Troy Wiggington and he loves my car just as much as I do. My goals this year are to win some races and compete in this year’s World Cup Finals Import vs. Domestic 2023.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

1990 Foxbody that was pretty fast and then when I was in high school I got a 2006 V6 Mustang and I started to mod that car for car shows and won some trophies. Then time went by and then Ford dropped the Coyote platform and I loved the new S197 body so I bought my 2011 5.0. This was about the time I would go out to watch street racing with my buddy Troy and I told him I want to have a fast car and from there the modding began.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

THE HIGHLIGHT OF OWNING THE CAR CAME WHEN GENE WINFIELD CAME TO OUR CITY FOR A MEET AND GREET AND HE SIGNED THE DASH.

My passion for Mustangs began at an early age when my parents bought a 1984 Mustang when I was in high school. The Mustang passion has been growing ever since.

My first Mustang was a 1995 V6 and through the years I’ve managed to own six Mustangs. By far my favorite is our ‘13 GHIG 5.0. We also own a 2002 Mustang GT which is my wife’s pony.

The green machine has a few mods. We put in a Boss intake manifold, JLT Cai, O/R custom H-pipe, GT500 quad tip axle back mufflers, and GT500 hood as well. It is currently running a custom tune from a local tuner. Suspension wise it has Steeda suspension and NItto tires with Niche Misano wheels. For the interior, we put in Katskinz leathers with suede inserts and green stitching plus many more mods.

We attend many car shows through the summer and to our shock and happiness we placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in our class at various Mustang meets. The highlight of owning the car came when Gene Winfield came to our city for a meet and greet and he signed the dash.

“JUST THE TIP

DAMN THAT’S CRUSTY! YOU EVER CLEAN THAT THING?

While it may seem small and insignificant, corrosion on your battery terminals can cause serious headaches with your ride. We’ve all seen it and have probably had cars where we experienced it, and it can be a common cause of reduced battery life. So what is the battery corrosion you see on the terminals, what causes it, and what’s the best way to fix it?

What is it – The battery is filled with a mixture of sulfuric acid

and water. When the battery is charging, it heats up, and some of that water evaporates. And in a process called electrolysis, the water breaks down into hydrogen and oxygen that will dissipate through the battery. When the hydrogen gas makes contact with air, moisture, and salt, it causes the corrosive buildup that you see on your terminals.

What causes it – There are multiple factors that can cause this corrosion in a battery. Age for one. A battery typically has a lifespan of three to five years. They become more susceptible to corrosion as they reach their expiration date. Another cause is

overheating. Batteries that overcharge or overheat due to higher temperatures will evaporate more water, hence increasing the chance of corrosion. This is why corrosion is higher risk in the summer. And of course leaking fluid. If the battery case is cracked, no matter how small, it can leak battery acid and cause corrosion.

How to fix it – If it’s a recurring problem with your battery, it’s probably time for a replacement. Even if it starts great every morning and runs with no issues, corrosion that keeps coming back within a few months of cleaning means it time for a change. But to clean up the battery you have, it’s a simple as removing

the battery cables, using a wire brush to clean the terminals and battery cable ends. Then use either a commercial terminal cleaner, or take the easy cheap route and mix baking soda with warm water(as this will neutralize any acidic residue in the corrosion) and wipe them down with a rag. Remember that the corrosion is caustic and can cause skin and eye damage, so play it safe and wear gloved and eye protection.

Pro-Tip - Before disconnecting the battery, hook up a ‘memory saver’ to the car so your car’s computer, and all other settings, do not get erased. More on that in next month’s issue of Just The Tip!
