Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. TALKING WITH TJ

As we begin our journey into the descent of madness that is my mind and the crazy antics of my life, I would like to first introduce myself. My name is TJ, blah blah blah, that sums it up and all you need to know. Whew… got past the CRAP no one cares about! Now for the good stuff.

Mustang culture is one that is very unique and brings together people from all walks of life. One thing is for sure though, the STANG Mag crew isn’t your typical crew. We are a bunch of weirdos, oddballs, and outcasts. We party hard and live by our ride or die motto and have adventures like no other.

From partying in various spots all over the U.S., to touring some of America’s most haunted sites, to having my ass spanked by a beautiful Latina in Las Vegas in front of a restaurant packed full of guests (and owning it), it’s never a dull moment! All I can say is... strap in, rev the shit out of your motor, and let’s go!

STANGS & SHENANIGANS

We are in full swing this car season. Our first major tour was the Stangs and Shenanigans Tour 2023. On this tour it started off as a rainy day. Our Stang enthusiasts arrived at 9:00 am for the car and coffee meet at Gettysburg, PA, and man was it pouring. I can only imagine what people were thinking looking at close to 20 people standing outside in the rain on a Saturday morning at Dunkin Donuts. After everyone had arrived it was off to explore Gettysburg battlefield. Here is where it got crazy trying to get 20 something Mustangs through downtown Gettysburg was a challenge. Between the onslaught of rain, the many stoplights, and the heavy traffic we experienced that day, we are lucky any of us survived. But thankfully we rucked it out through downtown Gettysburg, lost no one and proceeded to tour the battlefield. Gettysburg as many will probably already know,

was a place where more that 50,000 soldiers had lost their lives in 3 days during the Civil War. It is considered the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. It is a very important battle for us on the east coast because it stopped the Confederate momentum from moving north and gave the north a much needed victory. It is often called the turning point of the war. Our tour took us past the Gettysburg National Cemetery which is where over 6,000 United States soldiers and Veterans are buried. From there we drove all over the park, looking at the different monuments and statues. At the end of the battlefield cruise, we ended up at the Pennsylvania Monument. This monument

commemorates the 34,530 Pennsylvania soldiers who fought in the July 1-3, 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. From here we went to our favorite watering hole, Gary Owens. I refer to this as our Headquarters since many of our weekly meetings occur here. Gary Owens is an old Civil War era building that has more than 120 whiskies, Ireland’s draft beers, and amazing Irish food. You can literally feel the history in this building and it is also believed to be haunted as many of our members have had experiences here of the other world. Now trying to get our group in here was a challenge, as Gary Owens is a very popular place in downtown Gettysburg, so we did the best thing possible, we

swarmed the building exactly at opening, 11:00 am. The food was amazing as usual and the alcohol, well let’s just say I made some new friends that day, Sláinte. If you go here, be sure to try the drinks, you won’t be disappointed.

Next on our journey was the World War II American Experience right outside of Gettysburg. This place is cool. There are actual tanks, jeeps, uniforms, weapons, and landmines all original from World War II. There are some replicas, but few, as it is mostly original stuff. An interesting fact is that after World War II, a lot of the Veterans came back and settled near Gettysburg, PA. These Veterans over the years started to collect these old Jeeps, trucks, and tanks, as they were sold off to the public for dirt cheap back then.

Well, they decided to come together and create a museum dedicated to their experiences in World War II. Every piece of history and war trophy has a story in this museum. There is even an actual Japanese flag fully signed by the Japanese soldiers, which was used by them in World War II. It’s an amazing museum, and highly recommended to anyone who goes. I mean there is even a pub inside the museum. How many museums do you know have a pub?

Next on the stop was the Battlefield Brew Works and Spirits. Now this place is unique in that it was an old barn that was used as a civil war hospital. A few years ago, the owners converted it to a brewery. What is cool about this place, is that you are actually standing in the same place that was the spot for many civil war

soldiers who came in looking for dire need of medical attention. This place is believed to be highly haunted and a few friends of ours have had other worldly experiences here. One experience that stands out was one night, as we were walking to our cars, we had this experience almost like walking through a vortex. It was very odd, where your skin start to get cold and the hairs stand up. We didn’t see anything other than this odd warbling effect walking through whatever this was, but it was definitely strange. Ironically as we walked past this wierd vortex that was between two tree lines, there was an old hearse that was just chilling in the field. Now I love hearses, so as you can imagine, I did what I do, I went over and started to take pictures of it. It was a beautiful light blue color which apparently was used by the brewery as a pro-

To end the tour, we had dinner at Savor Hood. Savor Hood is an old biker bar that was converted to a foodhall style restaurant, sporting 10 different food choices and a taproom/bar. This place is a culinary delight. You can get anything from cheesesteaks, buffalo wings (highly recommended), woodfire pizza, BBQ, seafood, and ice cream. The ice cream is out of this world, just wow. It is a local favorite called Mr. G’s. I got the salted caramel and cookies and cream cup. Super creamy and melts in your mouth, with nice chunks of cookies. All freshly made. It was a hell of a day and one for the books. Until next time, saddle up, strap in, and don’t do something I would do, unless you want to wreak havoc, in that case Do IT, just DO IT!

THIS PASSION FOR CARS HAS ALLOWED ME TO MEET SOME AMAZING PEOPLE...

I fell in love with the Mustang when I was a young boy. I learned how to drive on an ’86 5 speed 5.0 and bought my first Mustang, an ‘87 LX, at age 19. Feeling other things in life were becoming a priority, I sold it at 27, ensuring it went to someone who would love it and appreciate it the same way that I did.

It wasn’t long before I realized there was a void in my life, one that only a Mustang could fill. I purchased a ’93 LX, built it, and realized that I didn’t only love Mustangs I was obsessed with them. I wanted what was “next level” and purchased a ’04 Cobra in Redfire Metallic.

If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

Some features include Griggs Racing suspension, polished Bassani exhaust, Bassani long tube headers, Whipple supercharger, 2 pump fuel system, 3.73 gears, twin disc clutch , custom interior and CCWs., as well as many other upgrades. With all the work and efforts put into this car, I thought I would

have been fulfilled, but once again I found myself wanting more.

I purchased this ’21 GT 500 (nicknamed Attitude) in Carbonized Gray. This car features Steeda springs, Borla Atak exhaust, SPE carbon fiber intake, (many other carbon fiber accents), custom oil covers, 3 piece Forge Line rims, and the car is fully PPF’d.

This passion for cars has allowed me to meet some amazing people, make memories, and co-found The Vicious Stangs of Long Island, a club geared towards promoting the love of Mustangs in our community.

THIS RARE 1 OF 19 CAME INTO MY POSSESSION AND AS YOU CAN SEE THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BADDEST MUSTANGS...

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

I have been a Ford Mustang Fanatic before I could even drive. In my Senior year of high school my dad and mom bought me a 1986 Mustang GT which is beyond AWESOME. It went through tires like tanks of gas.

My next Mustang was a 2004 40th Anniversary Mustang which was completely pro built from front to back. It had two stages of Nitrous Outlet, Tremec TKO600, Stage 2 heads and Thumper cams, straight piped and ran 9.70 in the 1/4 mile.

I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

Then this RARE 1 of 19 came into my possession and as you can see this is by far one of the BADDEST MUSTANGS you will ever see at any car shows. I took it to the Shift S3ctor Airstrip Attack in Marion, Indiana were it went 161 mph in the 1/2 mile.

Mods include a 3.0 Liter Whipple Stage 2 supercharger, upgraded Whipple pulleys, upgraded fuel injectors and fuel pump, CarbonAero front splitter, CarbonAero side sills, CarbonAero rear spoiler with gurney lip, 20” Forgestar wheels, 15.1” Brembo 6-piston calipers front, 15.1” Brembo 4-piston calipers rear, complete lowered suspension, and Underglow-X lighting.

WHEN I SAW THE S197 MUSTANG FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THE END OF 2004, IT WAS CLEAR TO ME...

I have had a passion for Ford since I started driving. Briefly about me, I come from Switzerland and am 49 years old. My first car was a XR4ti Merkur (in Europe these are called Sierras). My second Ford was a Sierra Cosworth.

If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

When I saw the S197 Mustang for the first time at the end of 2004, it was clear to me that the next vehicle will be a Mustang GT, which I then bought and had in my possession from 2005 - 2012.

In 2012 it happened again. I met the Kona Blue Shelby which I could not resist, so off to the dealer and the 2005 GT was payment given.

The Shelby has gradually changed individually and the joy of the vehicle is still like the first day.

SEEING THE LOOK ON PEOPLE’S FACE WHEN IT GOES BY IS ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS.

My love for Mustangs started as a kid seeing my big brother get one Mustang after another, and me being a little sister, I just wanted to be cool like my big brother. Naturally I fell in love with them because what’s not to love about a Mustang right? All my life, I’ve been daddy’s little girl so when it was time for my very first car, he got me a Burgundy 1995 GT. It was my baby and he fixed it up beautifully. After 7 years with my baby, sadly in 2016 I wrecked it, and I was absolutely devastated because my daddy got me that car and it meant the world to me. Months later, my brother decided to sell his 2007 V6 car, and my daddy bought it for me at my brother’s special price. I was beyond excited. Just like my beautiful mother, my favorite color was purple and so the journey of our masterpiece began there. My now fiance, started little by little, transforming this plain Jane silver car into my dream car. From the inside-out, we changed EVERYTHING from the bumpers to the rear end, literally every single thing we started with we changed.

I’m so proud of my fiance, and I know his beautiful mom that sadly passed recently is so proud of her son too. I just know our beloved “Nanny” would’ve been extremely happy to see this. I have so much pride for the one of a kind beast we created.

Our goal was to create a unique car that stood out, something different that you don’t see at every car show or in the streets all while making people question if it’s really a V6? He put a TON of work, time, and money into our car, but the coolest thing is, he did all the work himself, from the paint job, the mods, customizing the one of a kind rims, and everything in between. I fell in love with the look of the Mustangs when I saw them advertised to preorder in 2016 and thought they would be way out of my price range so I just kept drooling over them whenever I saw one on the road passing me by.

I came across Racey at our local car dealer being sold as a demonstrator model with a few modifications already done for a price I couldn’t refuse! That was in October of 2018 and I finally owned a Mustang!

I have gradually completed all the modifications to her as I have gone along, attending local car shows and getting ideas of what I wanted to do to her.

There are still a few things I want to do to her, but at the moment she is winning trophies at shows and catches glimpses from passers by so I am happy to show her off and see other people smile as much as I do when I look at her. It’s all about the joy of owning something that I am proud to drive and

going to shows meeting new people and letting kids sit in the driver’s seat to spark their interest in these beautiful cars. It makes everyone’s day!

I started my Mustang journey in 2012 with a V6 and in 2017 bought my first GT. A year later, Ruby Rocket popped up on Craigslist and we brought her home that same day. I’d never owned anything like her and was so intimidated by all 670 hp. Little did I know the path I’d be on five years later.

Ruby Rocket is a 1 of 1, 2015 Roush Stage 3 Mustang. My family found her in 2018 with 2300 miles. Her first years with us were spent as a Sunday driver and garage queen. In 2021 we hit the dragstrip for the first time and began attending a few car shows. 2022 was full of adventure with Autocross, the dragstrip, and our first HPDE track days.

“Worth the Wait” is a name that holds deep meaning for my car. It represents the journey I went through with Mustangs and the patience I had to exercise to make my dream car a reality.

It all began in 1978 when I purchased my first Mustang, a 1968 coupe, for just $350. The car needed extensive work, but I had a vision of what it could become. However, life had other plans, and I faced financial constraints. Eventually, I made the tough decision to sell the car to my little brother, with the understanding that if he ever decided to part ways with it, I would have the first opportunity to buy it back.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

Unfortunately, fate dealt a harsh blow when my brother totaled the car. It was a heartbreaking moment, but I refused to let go of my dream. Years went by, and in 2010, I found myself in a better financial situation. With advancements in technology and craftsmanship, I knew it was finally time to build the car I had always envisioned.

This time, I was able to purchase a 1968 convertible Mustang. With greater resources at my disposal, I embarked on the project of transforming it into my dream car. The journey wasn’t easy, but the wait was certainly worth it. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and modern technologies available made it possible for me to create a car that surpassed anything I could have achieved back in 1978.

Today, when I look at my completed Mustang, proudly named “Worth the Wait,” I am reminded of the journey I’ve been on. It’s a symbol of perseverance, dedication, and the belief that dreams can come true with patience and determination. This

car represents not only my passion for Mustangs but also the triumph of turning a vision into reality, despite the challenges along the way.

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

“JUST THE TIP

DAMN THAT’S CRUSTY! YOU EVER CLEAN THAT THING?

While it may seem small and insignificant, corrosion on your battery terminals can cause serious headaches with your ride. We’ve all seen it and have probably had cars where we experienced it, and it can be a common cause of reduced battery life. So what is the battery corrosion you see on the terminals, what causes it, and what’s the best way to fix it?

What is it – The battery is filled with a mixture of sulfuric acid

and water. When the battery is charging, it heats up, and some of that water evaporates. And in a process called electrolysis, the water breaks down into hydrogen and oxygen that will dissipate through the battery. When the hydrogen gas makes contact with air, moisture, and salt, it causes the corrosive buildup that you see on your terminals.

What causes it – There are multiple factors that can cause this corrosion in a battery. Age for one. A battery typically has a lifespan of three to five years. They become more susceptible to corrosion as they reach their expiration date. Another cause is

overheating. Batteries that overcharge or overheat due to higher temperatures will evaporate more water, hence increasing the chance of corrosion. This is why corrosion is higher risk in the summer. And of course leaking fluid. If the battery case is cracked, no matter how small, it can leak battery acid and cause corrosion.

How to fix it – If it’s a recurring problem with your battery, it’s probably time for a replacement. Even if it starts great every morning and runs with no issues, corrosion that keeps coming back within a few months of cleaning means it time for a change. But to clean up the battery you have, it’s a simple as removing

the battery cables, using a wire brush to clean the terminals and battery cable ends. Then use either a commercial terminal cleaner, or take the easy cheap route and mix baking soda with warm water(as this will neutralize any acidic residue in the corrosion) and wipe them down with a rag. Remember that the corrosion is caustic and can cause skin and eye damage, so play it safe and wear gloved and eye protection.

Pro-Tip - Before disconnecting the battery, hook up a ‘memory saver’ to the car so your car’s computer, and all other settings, do not get erased. More on that in next month’s issue of Just The Tip!
