STANG Magazine May 2025 Issue

Page 1

Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride! -

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

DEEP BLUE IS THE LARGEST FEMALE GREAT WHITE SHARK IN THE OCEAN TODAY AND I PLAN TO MAKE MY MUSTANG JUST AS BIG.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

My name is Ray Roman and this is my 2020 Mustang GT, nicknamed “Deepblue20.” I have a love for Mustangs and sharks so that’s where the name Deepblue came from. Deepblue is the largest female great white shark in the ocean today and l plan to make my Mustang just as big. She’s pushing 900whp and more to come. Tuned by Carl Messenger at Competition Auto in Spring Lake, NC where | also work as a tech. I’ve completely built the car on my own and love every minute of it. I must also thank my sponsors CADS Detail & Ceramic Coating for making her shine like no other and Competition Auto for the parts and tuning. Last but not least, I would like to thank Mishimoto for the performance cooling parts.

Mods include a Whipple gen5 3.0, Weld wheels S77, Fore fuel system, Ford Racing carbon fiber Cobra Jet hood, Anderson Composite carbon fiber trunk, DSS 2000hp half axles, DSS carbon fiber one piece driveshaft, Steeda stop the hop kit, Viking coilovers, and rear seat delete.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

Members of the STANG Mag family are more passionate about fun and inclusion than they are their cars and that says a lot! I can’t wait to see what’s to come in 2022!

IT IS MY ESCAPE FROM BAD DAYS AND BRINGS ME RELIEF.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

Here is my GRABBER... a 2011 GT California Special premium. It has the 5.0 V8 Coyote engine, 6 speed manual transmission, 302 BOSS intake manifold and JLT Cold intake, 19 inch Argent machined aluminum stock wheels, halo projector headlights and dual chrome Flowmaster exhaust with the Shaker 1000 stereo system. Interior is leather trim sport seats, charcoal black natural grain with carbon fiber accents. It is number 17 out of 170 manufactured in the Grabber Blue color for that year. It is certified by Ford Performance Group as a limited special edition.

It all started after seeing the movie Gone in 60 Seconds. I have since admired the Ford Mustang with its sporty streamed line body, rumbling exhaust, and it’s vibrant colors. I even named my youngest daughter Shelby after the car. My first Mustang was a black 2002 V6 convertible that I owned for five years. I decided to sell that and upgrade to a 5.0. I wanted the car in blue and Grabber Blue was my go to. I searched online for months looking for the right one. I found one 500 miles away at a reputable dealership. I basically bought the car over the phone, sight unseen, only had pics and videos from the salesman and I had a shipping company pick it up and bring it right to my home. It was one of the happiest days of my life and I immediately fell in love.

The car is my pride and joy. It is my escape from bad days and brings me relief. There is nothing like driving around with the windows down and the music blaring. It brings joy to others seeing it in public and at car shows.

THIS MUSTANG CHANGED ME.

I’VE

BEEN HOOKED EVER SINCE!

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. Mustangs have been a passion since 1973 when I bought my first Ford, a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang. I was raised in a Chevrolet world, but this Mustang changed me. I’ve been hooked ever since!

I traded my 1970 Boss to a friend for his 69 Mach 1 in 1978 (he still owns the Boss). That night we traded I knew I made a mistake. There was something special about the Boss Mustangs. I have owned several Mustangs since that time and on my third Boss 302. This is my 2013 Grabber Blue Boss. We own four Mustangs currently.

TWO YEARS AGO I MADE THAT DREAM A REALITY...

I was raised around muscle cars, then slowly found my way into the four cylinder scene. When I found out about Ford’s Ecoboost Mustang I knew I had found my combo. A four cylinder disguised as a muscle car. Two years ago I made that dream a reality and purchased my Ruby Red Mustang and started my build.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I still have a way to go but here is my 2016 Ecoboost Mustang otherwise known as KYECOBOOST. It is powered by a 2.3l turbo upgraded with a 93 tune from Torrie at Unleashed Tuning, and has a three inch CVF catted down pipe, C&L sport catback exhaust, CVF race intercooler and charge pipes, Airaid cai, Turbosmart dualport em bov, UPR crank case breather, UPR overflow tank, Ford Performance track shocks and struts paired with C&L drag spec lowering springs, and C&L super sport cross drilled and slotted rotors.

I WAS 75 WHEN I STARTED TO BUILD THIS MONSTER.

My name is Joe Reyes and I am from Long Island in Bayshore, New York. I was 75 when I started to build this Monster. I am now 86 and still terrorize the local streets.

It is a Ford 460 stroked out to 600 cubic inch. It has 780 hp at the flywheel. It has a TCI C-6 transmission with a 9” Ford rear with 5:44 gears bolted to a Spool. The back of the car has been tubed out to fit the 29”x 15.5“ Mickey Thompson tires. The Mustang has frame connectors with a back half chassis. I did all the work and painted it myself.

EVER SINCE THEN, I DIDN’T WANT ANYTHING BUT A MUSTANG.

My name is Carmen Guerrero. I fell in love with Mustangs when I saw a 64 convertible at the age of 11. Ever since then, I didn’t want anything but a Mustang.

I’ve always owned Mustangs for as long as I could remember. I currently own two Mustangs, a 2013 V6 which is my daily and a 2010 V8 Roush Stage 2. I bought the Roush from a NHRA Top Fuel Driver and the owner of Scappers Racing.

- 2019 MUSTANG GT WOW! WHAT A START.

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

Being a Buick Grand National owner for the last 15 years, I always loved how these Mustangs looked but was still happy with the Buick. Then after lots of persuasion I caved and did a brake job on my wife’s coworkers S550 Mustang. I had never driven one so that was kind of exciting. I was surprised how nice the car drove; how great the handling was and the stopping power; something that the Buick lacked. So, this sweet looking car stops, turns, and goes fast? I’m sold!

Being a lifelong mechanic and drag racer, first thing was to see where the car’s performance was at. First summer with only a drop in air filter the car went 12.20. Wow! What a start. Happy with that and knowing I was longing for boost; Next logical step, the following summer was an E-85 N/A tune. That netted an 11.70. What amazing gains. Over that winter with the lack of snow so no money spent on snowmobiling and my wife’s financial generosity, I was able to buy the supercharger I wanted. The VMP Odin level 2. Since then, it has gone 10.99 on the lowest possible boost level and spinning the tires. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this car.

And the best part that I love the most? It’s still a hop in no fuss car that my wife will drive and ride in. Man, I love technology and the S550/Coyote platform!

TWISTED BOMBSHELL SALUTE

THE VETERANS BROTHERHOOD –CLYDE HOCH

In Vietnam in 1969, a young tank commander was sent with two tanks and a company of Marines. They were sent out as a blocking force for a much larger operation. Hours of boredom passed. They all expected to sleep on the ground next to the tanks and eat cold C-rations, because the area was too full of enemy troops to have a fire of any kind.

To their surprise they got a call on the radio to come back in. Back into company headquarters that meant warm meals, a shower, and cold beer. Everyone was overjoyed. It was a nice bright and warm day. Marine infantry were riding on the tanks. The young tank commander had the lead tank and was sitting on the tank commander’s hatch. He remembered taking a large breath of air and it was all very hot air. Everything started to get blurry, and he thought to himself, oh, oh this is it.

The next thing he remembered was his life was like a brown blob. He started talking to himself saying you have to come back you can’t let go. He repeated this over and over for what seemed like 20 minutes. After some time, he saw a little light and it reminded him of when you drink a glass of water and look through the bottom of the glass, everything was all distorted. When he started to function, he saw mouths moving but couldn’t hear any sounds.

The young tank commander was dazed and confused. What had just happened? After some time, he realized they had hit a very large anti-tank mine. The mine was on the same side he had been sitting on. The tank had its track, and the first three road wheels blown off. It was lying in a hole about three feet deep and five feet round. He didn’t understand, he had never heard any explosion.

He was never told about traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder. From that day on his life changed. He had a hard time making decisions. He had a hard time remembering things. He didn’t like being around people. He received orders for drill instructor school. He knew with his memory the way it was he would not make it through the school, or he would never be an effective leader. He opted to get out of the military.

When he came home from Vietnam, he was surprised to find everyone looked down on Vietnam Veterans. The very people they were risking their lives for. He didn’t fit in anywhere in society. He acted differently but thought it was just him. He never knew anything about traumatic brain injury and never associated the mine explosion with his actions. He was always nervous and hyper. He started drinking way too much. When he was drinking it was the only time, he felt comfortable. In Vietnam everyone helped each other. It seemed here in the states everyone was trying to stab everyone in the back. He was more comfortable in the war than in his own country.

Since he went into the Marines three days after graduation coming home was a whole new experience for him. For many years he followed the path of alcohol. There was no one to talk to. The Veterans Administration dismissed him.

A very bad marriage and a divorce came.

Life was one day after another of struggling to exist. He finally felt suicide was the only way out. He planned every detail on how he would do it. Every day he felt life was not worth the effort. The only thing that prevented him from carrying out his plans was he felt God put us here for a reason. No matter what the cost here on earth it would all be worth it someday.
