STANG Magazine May 2025: Editor's Choice Issue

Page 1

Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride! -

CHERRY BOMB - 2016 MUSTANG

IT IS A PASSION FOR ME THAT WILL NEVER DIE.

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

I could go on and on about my Mustang passion. It all started at a young age when I saw my first classic Stang at a local show. I was just a kid that saw the running horse, which instantly drew me over, and then I checked it out and loved how the car looked. Years later, I wound up with the Mustang I have now. I’ve had Cherry Bomb for eight years now, and he’s not going anywhere. It’s actually my first car! This car has made such a difference in my life. I got big into the car scene because of it, and I’ve made so many friends. You really meet the nicest people. It’s not just a car or just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. Pretty much everyone I’ve ever met treats me like an old friend. I’d never fit in anywhere before, but the car community feels just like home. I’m thankful for everyone I now know, and I consider them family and always will.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

lower grille, Cervinis C-Series chin spoiler, and Cyclone decklid badge. There’s a few more things too. I still have a lot more I want to do. I’m focusing mostly on cosmetics for now because it’s a show car, but will do more performance stuff in the future. I’m having so much fun with this car. It is a passion for me that will never die.

Members of the STANG Mag family are more passionate about fun and inclusion than they are their cars and that says a lot! I can’t wait to see what’s to come in 2022!

There’s been a lot of stuff added to Cherry Bomb over the years. The car doesn’t look nearly the same as it did when I first got it. A few of my favorites are my Blue/Black Iridescent stripes, Eibach sportline lowering springs, SVE Drift wheels, and my brake upgrade. For the brake upgrade, I swapped my factory brakes for all around GT brakes and had the calipers powder coated to match my paint. A few other cosmetics I have are the MMD V-series upper and

DAD’S MACH - 1973 MACH 1

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

I KNOW DAD RIDES WITH ME IN SPIRIT EVERY TIME I DRIVE HIS MUSTANG.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

My dad purchased this 1973 Mach 1 in March of 73. It was his daily driver for work. As a child I would ride on the rear dash. It was the 1970s. Safety third. Lol. Dad taught me to drive in this car. I got to drive it to high school occasionally. Sure beat riding the bus.

I grew up and did the family thing as my dad continued driving his Mach 1. Knee replacements gave him difficulty getting in and out of the car. He parked it in his garage with plans to restore it to original. My sister and I would give him restoration parts for Christmas.

Dad retired and started making the plans for restoration. His health declined. A year before he died, he handed me the keys and the original title. I had to drag it out of the garage where it had sat for 23 years. I had hoped to at least get it running so I could drive him around in it but that didn’t happen. Cancer sucks.

I know dad rides with me in spirit every time I drive his Mustang. Slowly restoring his car just as he would have.

The car’s name is the same as when I was a child... “Dad’s Mach.” It is a 1973 Mustang Mach 1 351 Cleveland. I did swap the FMX for an AOD transmission.

LEGACY - 2020 SHELBY GT500

IT WASN’T JUST A CAR. IT WAS A STATEMENT.

For as long as I could remember, the roar of a powerful engine and the sleek lines of a finely crafted car had been more than just mechanical details to me. They were art in motion, a symphony of engineering that stirred something deep inside. Every gearhead has a dream car, and for me, it had always been the Shelby GT500 - a car synonymous with raw, untamed power.

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

In 2020, the stars aligned. I had been following the whispers about the newest GT500, studying every leak, video review, and test drive I could get my hands on. Ford was pulling out all the stops this time, crafting the ultimate street-legal track car. The specs were unreal: 760 horsepower, a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, and a top speed that could make your heart race just thinking about it.

But it wasn’t just about the numbers. It was the legacy. The Shelby badge represented something more than just speed - it was a tribute to Carroll Shelby’s relentless pursuit of automotive perfection. A heritage of dominance on and off the track.

I remember walking into the dealership, heart pounding as I approached the gleaming predator on the showroom floor. It was as if everything I’d read and watched suddenly came to life. The deep paint shimmered under the lights, the menacing front grille practically snarled, and the aggressive stance screamed that this car was ready to devour asphalt. There was no second-guessing. This was the one.

As I sat behind the wheel for the first time, gripping the

suede steering wheel and pressing the throttle just a little, I felt the engine rumble beneath me. It wasn’t just a car. It was a statement. A machine that reflected everything I loved about driving - a perfect balance of ferocity and precision. I knew right then and there, I had to have it.

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

The 2020 Shelby GT500 wasn’t just a purchase; it was the culmination of a lifelong passion. It’s a car that makes every drive feel like an event, every road an opportunity, and every corner a test of skill. Owning it was about embracing the thrill, the challenge, and the sheer joy of being behind the wheel of something truly extraordinary.

THE SOUND IS WICKED! MY PEOPLE SAY IT IS TOO LOUD AND HURTS EARS.

This is my 2022 Mustang GT Premium Pack with Spec RTR and Steeda upgrades. The most noticeable mod is of course my monster cowl hood. My entire exhaust consists of Kooks catless LTH with Borla Switchfire mid pipe and Borla atak exhaust that fit a GT500 track pack but my fabrication guy Grant Ehlmann at Jackalope LLC made it all fit so nice. The sound is wicked! My people say it is too loud and hurts ears.

The hood and paint match for a Mischievous Purple was done by Ryan Meyer at Madd Graphics. The insane reflection and detail by Mike Stude at Pro Detail. I’m currently in works with my buddy Shadd Hoffman at Corn Fed performance to finish building the car up with ESS. Also in works

I’m talking to Steeda for future deals. Every single light on the car is RGB, even under hood and car chassis.

With all that being said, my Purple Haze is one of a kind that’s built for looks and performance. This car is the build the little kid in me could only have dreamed of. Thanks for

I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE SN95 AFTER THAT CAR...

My passion for Mustangs began as a kid when my cool aunt had a 96 GT with no cats and that sparked my passion. From then on, I knew I wanted a Mustang. My first Mustang started with a junkyard 98 GT with 280k miles and the oil burning/leaking. Basically junk that I welded the diff on and drifted until I killed it.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I fell in love with the SN95 after that car and from then on due to its affordability for a young E4 in the Navy, not to mention due to the ease of work and availability of parts.

Fast Forward to today with my current 98 GT, it is a car that I plan to keep in my family for generations.

IT NOW HAS AN ALL NEW FUEL SYSTEM AND BIG TURBO.

This Mustang started as an all factory car when I got it six years ago as a gift and has got better since. From day one all I wanted to do is drop a LS3 and drift the car. But after posting Tiktoks of the car, I was told its a V6 Mustang and it will never make power. The car made 230hp and 300tq with an all stock motor and ebay turbo.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. But why stop there? So I contacted Super Six Motorsports had them send me everything I needed for a fully built bottom end. It now has an all new fuel system and big turbo. I have yet to have it on the dyno but hoping to hit 450 to 500hp.

Mods include 69 Mustang radiator, custom turbo kit, Super Six Motorsports bottom end kit, 3.73 rear, MST wheels, coilovers, intake from a 4.2 F150, comp cam 276/283, Ford Performance 80Ib injectors, and NRG seats.

THIS CAR MEANS THE WORLD TO ME...

My name is Phillip Everson and this is actually my first Mustang. I’ve loved them since I was young and grew up in the Foxbody era.

I love working on my car with my wife. This car means the world to me because of the time I get to spend with my wife on our adventures and it was the last project that my best friend and I worked on before he passed.

TWISTED BOMBSHELL SALUTE

THE VETERANS BROTHERHOOD –CLYDE HOCH

In Vietnam in 1969, a young tank commander was sent with two tanks and a company of Marines. They were sent out as a blocking force for a much larger operation. Hours of boredom passed. They all expected to sleep on the ground next to the tanks and eat cold C-rations, because the area was too full of enemy troops to have a fire of any kind.

To their surprise they got a call on the radio to come back in. Back into company headquarters that meant warm meals, a shower, and cold beer. Everyone was overjoyed. It was a nice bright and warm day. Marine infantry were riding on the tanks. The young tank commander had the lead tank and was sitting on the tank commander’s hatch. He remembered taking a large breath of air and it was all very hot air. Everything started to get blurry, and he thought to himself, oh, oh this is it.

The next thing he remembered was his life was like a brown blob. He started talking to himself saying you have to come back you can’t let go. He repeated this over and over for what seemed like 20 minutes. After some time, he saw a little light and it reminded him of when you drink a glass of water and look through the bottom of the glass, everything was all distorted. When he started to function, he saw mouths moving but couldn’t hear any sounds.

The young tank commander was dazed and confused. What had just happened? After some time, he realized they had hit a very large anti-tank mine. The mine was on the same side he had been sitting on. The tank had its track, and the first three road wheels blown off. It was lying in a hole about three feet deep and five feet round. He didn’t understand, he had never heard any explosion.

He was never told about traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder. From that day on his life changed. He had a hard time making decisions. He had a hard time remembering things. He didn’t like being around people. He received orders for drill instructor school. He knew with his memory the way it was he would not make it through the school, or he would never be an effective leader. He opted to get out of the military.

When he came home from Vietnam, he was surprised to find everyone looked down on Vietnam Veterans. The very people they were risking their lives for. He didn’t fit in anywhere in society. He acted differently but thought it was just him. He never knew anything about traumatic brain injury and never associated the mine explosion with his actions. He was always nervous and hyper. He started drinking way too much. When he was drinking it was the only time, he felt comfortable. In Vietnam everyone helped each other. It seemed here in the states everyone was trying to stab everyone in the back. He was more comfortable in the war than in his own country.

Since he went into the Marines three days after graduation coming home was a whole new experience for him. For many years he followed the path of alcohol. There was no one to talk to. The Veterans Administration dismissed him.

A very bad marriage and a divorce came.

Life was one day after another of struggling to exist. He finally felt suicide was the only way out. He planned every detail on how he would do it. Every day he felt life was not worth the effort. The only thing that prevented him from carrying out his plans was he felt God put us here for a reason. No matter what the cost here on earth it would all be worth it someday.
