Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride! -

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

THIS KITTY DOESN’T PURR, SHE ROARS.

After purchasing my 2018 Mustang Convertible, my father started telling more stories of the Mustangs he owned through the years. Every time though, he mostly focused on his mother’s 1966 Coupe in the one-model-year-only Emberglo paint, with the “gorgeous” two-tone deluxe pony interior, a center console, an automatic transmission, and an inline 6-cylinder engine.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

My college-aged father unfortunately totaled the car coming home from college when a passenger gave a last second direction to make a left turn through an intersection covered in ash (that’s how they treated for snow in the 60s). Since the accident occurred in the same model year, my grandmother purchased a second ’66 Coupe with the same Emberglo paint, same deluxe interior, same center console, and same automatic transmission. My quick-thinking father convinced my grandfather that if he had a V8 he could have avoided totaling the car, so the second Emberglo Coupe had a C code V8.

After seeing my first Emberglo Mustang with pony interior, I knew I had to own one someday. When I learned that my

father was fighting lung cancer, “someday” became “now”. Eight months of searching led me to my ’66 Coupe, with the same factory Emberglo paint, deluxe interior, center console, and automatic transmission as my grandmother’s. Like her second one, mine started as a C code V8. Her cars had black vinyl roofs, but given how badly they encourage rust, I don’t miss it on my car.

The goal is to keep my Coupe similar to my grandmother’s,

on the inside and outside, with only minor improvements. On the outside, my ’66 sports the era correct 14” styled wheels, sits a bit lower, and has the GT style trumpet exhaust. Inside the only change was adding 6 x 9s on the rear decklid to pair with the RetroSound Bluetooth radio.

The drive train though is definitely not stock. The factory V8 has been upgraded with a mild cam, Edelbrock 4bbl carburetor, Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock water pump, Cold Case aluminum radiator, Painless wiring, long tube headers, and tiny mufflers. Braking has been dramatically improved thanks to the Wilwood brake master cylinder, stainless steel brakes lines, and Baer front disc brakes. The factory automatic transmission started slipping and was replaced with an ’89 Ford Automatic with Overdrive (AOD) equipped with a Silver Fox SPT-R valve body and mated to 3:55 rear end gears.

While I enjoy turning the wrenches on this car, I enjoy driving it more. My father is doing well in the fight against cancer and we are making many happy memories. This ’66 Coupe honors my grandmother, Kitty. Thanks to the headers, cam, and custom exhaust, this Kitty doesn’t purr, she roars. I give you, Angry Kitty.
