Novel Activities Weeks 1 & 2 - Term 2 Timeline 1. Finish reading the book by Wednesday of week 2 2. Finish all week 1 activities by Friday of week 1 3. Finish all activities by Friday of week 2 4. Write your answers in detail. Ensure you explain your answers, ideas fully by backing them up with proof from the text. Do MORE than you think I want, just to be safe. Week 1 1. After reading chapter 1, you need to write a quick retell in your own words. It should be no more than 3-5 lines long. Do the same at the end of chapter 2. 2. As you are reading the book, keep a TRAIT LIST for one character from the book. As the character does something or acts in a certain way, you can assign a trait to them (like bravery). Under each trait note down what they’ve done/said to explain why you’ve chosen this trait. You should have at least two traits by the end of the first week. 3. Write three EXCELLENT comprehension questions. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER THEM. You need to make sure that the questions are not literal. In other words, an explanation should be required to answer them. Week 2 1. Complete your TRAIT LIST. By the end of the week you should have at least four traits with a number of different references from the text to prove them. 2. Which of the characters from the book would you most like for a friend? Why? What would you do together? Explain fully. Make sure you include a lot of detail as well as evidence for your reasons from the text. 3. Write your opinion of the book. Remember you have to include: - Your opinion ( a statement) - Your reasons (at least 2) - Your evidence (proof from the text that explains your reasons)
