New challenge The Poznań Congress Center is the most modern and the greatest congress center in Poland. It has already hosted one of the greatest political congresses in the world – the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP-14, the General Assembly of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions, the European Youth Meeting organized by the Taizé Community, great musical spectacles, congresses, festivals and sports competitions. This year, the Poznań Congress Center has a new challenge that is servicing of five conferences related with Polish presidency in the European Union. Organization and complex servicing of the prestigious events was entrusted to the Poznań Congress Center by the Ministry of Regional Development. It was started by the conference on “The territorial dimension of the European Social Fund”, which was organized at the end of September and gathered about 200 representatives of Member States, decision makers and experts from the EU. The Poznań Congress Center is to coordinate four more events: three to take place in Warsaw and one in Poznań. All of them are to be international in character and related to the Polish presidency. The last of the conferences is going to be held at the grounds of the Poznań International Fair (MTP) on November 24th. The conference on the “Integrated approach to development – a key to intelligent, sustainable

and inclusion-friendly Europe” is to be participated by ministers, commissioners and high level experts representing various thematic areas in the field of the Regional Policy, territorial development, municipal issues and the Cohesion Policy. Moreover, an Informal Meeting of the Ministers of Regional Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Urban Development has been scheduled for November 25th. The Poznań Congress Center provides complex coordination of all their events. This includes: arranging conference areas (from the project to the implementation), printing invitations, providing accommodation and registration of participants, security, catering, transport and audio and video services. by Karolina Makowska

TOUR SALON

Trade Fair of Regions and Tourist Products

World of tourism’s

great meeting

The October tourism fair TOUR SALON in Poznań always attracts thousands of professionals from the industry, facilitates making and maintaining numerous business contacts, and – at the same time – is a joyful adventure, with talks and other opportunities to exchange opinions in the trade fair hustle and bustle and the holiday travelling atmosphere. Anna Myślak Manager of TOUR SALON

TOUR SALON is a trade fair very well known in the tourist industry and undoubtedly the greatest tourism trade fair in Poland. Every year in Poznań the representatives of the broadly understood tourist industry from Poland and abroad meet and for four days the trade fair is teeming with life. The participation in the fair is conducive not only for making and maintain business contacts – it is also a friendly space for talks, exchanging opinions, shows, competitions and meetings with interesting people. Moreover, the Poznań tourism fair significantly contributes to promoting the values of Poland abroad and at the same time help to construct the brand and image of Poland.

Tested trade fair form Just like last year, TOUR SALON is to last for four days. The first two days are to be designed for professionals and the other two – for the general public. This form guarantees that all the participants of the trade fair will be able to take advantage of whatever interests them most: making profitable business contacts, meeting the representatives of the industry, seeing new products or the latest trends in tourism. TOUR SALON is a popular and acknowledged venue for the industry’s meetings. This is where discussions are held on the changes in legislation on tourism, important problems and trends occurring in the sector, market fluctuations and the impact of socioeconomic factors on broadly understood travelling. This year’s edition of TOUR SALON is once again going to become a platform for direct meetings of experts, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experiences. At the fair, for the second time in the history of TOUR SALON, MTP Gold Medals are going to be awarded to the best tourist products. The 22nd edition of the TOUR SALON Trade Fair of Regions and Tourist Products is to take place simultaneously with the INVEST-HOTEL Hotel Equipment Trade Fair. The event is to be held under the auspices of: the

Conferences, events, meetings During TOUR SALON many interesting conferences, lectures and meetings on current affairs in the industry are held, attracting many listeners. This year, the organisers are also inviting for a series of interesting meetings. One of them is an event called “The art of cheap flying”. It turns out that it can be a real skill. Therefore, all those who wish to learn what to do not to overpay for airline tickets should come to the meeting organised by MTP and the authors of the website Fly4free. pl – the greatest Polish air travel portal. You will be able to find out where, when and how to buy the cheapest tickets. The participants of the meeting should also get ready for an additional attraction – the first one hundred of them is to be given attractive souvenirs from the editing board of Fly4free.pl. A great attraction for all globetrotters is to be a panel on health issues called Safe Travelling. During the meetings organised by experienced doctors, specialists in tropical medicine, you will be able to find out about necessary vaccinations for travellers and about malaria prevention. At the same time, the representatives of travel agencies will be able to take part in training courses, during which they will acquire basic information on travel medicine. The participants of the course will be given a “Safe Travel Partner” certificate signed by the Institute of Marine and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia. During a two-day long event called Travel 2.0 independent experts and practitioners are going to share their knowledge on internet marketing with the representatives of the tourist and accommodation industry. Among the lecturers there will be influential leaders of the industry, famous bloggers, specialists in internet marketing, and representatives of interactive agencies as well as managers of large e-commerce websites. The organisers of the event focus on its pragmatic dimension, which is why on the second day of

the conferences they have prepared practical workshops on positioning, e-mail marketing, functionality and usability of www pages and social media marketing for hotels and tourist companies. The conference is to be accompanied by the review of internet pages called the Good Site of Tourism, during which experts are going to choose the most interesting tourist websites of 2011. Just like in the previous years, in cooperation with the website otoWakacje.pl, MTP invites you to take part in a conference, which this year is going to be held under an intriguing title: “Annoyance in tourism. Group shopping and social media – disappointments and insufficiencies”.

Inspiring celebrities, rich programme of events The Poznań tourism fair is an excellent opportunity to listen to, look at and talk to some unquestionable ce-

cial form of promotion. Historical traces and monuments can be found everywhere in the province. Hiking trails lead along the Cistercian and Knights Templar Trails. Old castles, manors and palaces hide the mysteries of their old owners and great rulers. When spending your holiday in the Zachodniopomorskie Province it is easy to combine the love for sailing and windsurfing with sunbathing, canoeing with watching nature, hiking and cycling with discovering history, holidays on a horseback with playing golf, hunting with photographing. You can go kite surfing, paragliding, and skydiving, take a trip into the wilderness to take part in a survival course. This is where there is the European capital of Nordic Walking and the longest water-ski lift in Europe. And all of this can be seen at the Poznań tourism fair.

Partner state – morocco

The last year’s edition of TOUR SALON – the greatest tourism fair in the country – attracted 760 exhibitors from 30 countries and more than 30,000 visitors, among whom there were about 15,000 professionals attending the fair on the first two days.

lebrities of the Polish extreme tourist industry. Marek Kamiński, Martyna Wojciechowska, Anna Lichota, as guests of the previous edition of TOUR SALON were eager to talk about their travels; they also signed books, inspiring others to look for new destinations in their travelling experiences and encouraging them to take up even seemingly impossible challenges. This year MTP in cooperation with the tourist and travel portal Tubyliśmy.pl organises the 2nd Poznań Festival of Travel and Photography. As in the previous year, Friday is to be devoted for workshops, whereas on Saturday the organisers are inviting you to take part in meetings with travellers. Among the trade fair guests there are going to be Romuald Koperski, a traveller and a guide in Siberia, a pioneer of car trips in Siberia’s vast territory, a first class airplane pilot, a writer, a reporter, a photographer, a hunter, a diver and a professional pianist.

Partner region – Zachodniopomorskie Province At TOUR SALON one of the most beautiful Polish regions – the Zachodniopomorskie Province, which, with its moraine hills, numerous lakes and river valleys, large forest areas, seaside cliffs and fantastic sandy beaches is a paradise for tourists – will have a chance for a spe-

Tradition interwoven in the contemporary, history inscribed in monuments, exotic nature and stunningly beautiful landscape, sports and leisure, the pleasures of an Arabian hammam and delicacies of Moroccan cuisine... all this is worth seeing or even must be seen and experienced. The Kingdom of Morocco – the country of the setting sun – is for Europe a gate to Africa, which is only 14 km away from it. Before tourists go to this beautiful country the organisers of this year’s fair are inviting them to visit the trade fair pavilions in which Morocco is going to present its full tourist offer. This year Morocco is the Partner State of TOUR SALON.

Around the world in four days For exhibitors – travel agencies and tour operators, representatives of Polish and many foreign regions, owners of accommodation and carriers, as well as internet websites and publishing houses – TOUR SALON is an excellent place for promotion, offer presentation and making new business contacts. Every year, through the Business Planner programme, which has been implemented by MTP and is enjoying a growing interest, hundreds of business talks are organised and held during the four intensive trade fair days. For visitors, on the other hand, TOUR SALON is an opportunity to familiarise themselves with attractive tourist offers, to learn about novelties in the industry, to see new tourist products and try out the attractions offered by the exhibitors, including shows, competitions and tastings organised at the fair stands, or artistic shows performed at the stage. It is also an opportunity to meet and talk to real celebrities of Polish extreme tourism. by Ewelina Nowosielska

ailing is the industry for real enthusiasts. In November, the MTP pavilions will once again change into a marina, teeming with life on each of the trade fair days. Here, producers and importers of sailing and motor yachts, and their equipment, are going to showcase their offers, including: sailing boats for inland waters, luxury sea yachts, motor boats, fast speedboats and barges. The visitors will be tempted to try out numerous technological novelties and will see demonstrations of new boat constructions. BOATSHOW is an important meeting for the industry and its clients and water sports enthusiasts. It is also a venue for discussions concerning issues that influence the development of the market and companies operating in it. Like every year, the trade fair audience will have an opportunity to talk to the fair’s special guests, i.e. really advanced sailors, who will tell about their trips and who will share their experiences related to sailing in the least accessible regions of the world. The more experienced sailors will also have an opportunity to take part in specialist workshops, whereas all the visitors and exhibitors will be able to relax to the sounds of shanties in a trade fair tavern, cool down a bit and make plans for the next sailing season. The bOAT SHOW Fair of Sailing and Water Sports is organised by the poznań International Fair (MTp) and the Interservis Ltd. who are warmly inviting you to come to poznań. 3/2011

tiles, hotel cosmetics and sauna, spa and wellness products, lighting systems and products designed to optimise the processes of cleaning and transport of bed linen, as well as modern design furniture. This year’s INVEST-HOTEL is for the first time going to take place in three modern pavilions located right in the vicinity of the TOUR SALON Trade Fair of Regions and Tourist Products, which is to be held at the same time. The clear division of the exposition into thematic sectors will definitely make it easier for visitors to find the companies they are interested in. One of the pavilions is to house a choice of construction materials and services, electronic systems and software, and bathroom, Spa and wellness equipment. In a separate space you will find the offer of furniture, lighting, interior design and furnishing companies. Yet another separate pavilion is to house a multi-thematic exhibition.

INVEST-HOTEL

Hotel Equipment Trade Fair

Józef Szyszka Manager of INVEST-HOTEL

This year’s edition of INVEST-HOTEL promises to be especially interesting, as the leading providers of products and services for hotels and SPA have already declared their participation in the event. For 12 years we have successfully tried to make the fair a venue for business meetings of the leading providers of products and services for hotels, B&Bs and holiday resorts. Every year we are visited by professional audience (investors, owners and managers of hotels and leisure facilities, architects and interior designers) for whom we prepare a rich programme of events.

B2B Contact Zone This year’s meeting of the hotel industry is to be devoted to business. Investors, hotel industry operators, owners and managers of accommodation and catering facilities, as well as architects are all invited to come to the fair. Through our B2B Contact Zone, visitors may pre-arrange an appointment with a particular company and take advantage of a number of facilities, including free admission and a car park space at the trade fair grounds.

At INVEST-HOTEL 2010 you could see a wide range of equipment for SPA, beauty salons and wellness centres.

Industry know-how The fair provides many opportunities to acquire knowledge on the condition of the industry and to exchange experiences during numerous presentations and thematic seminars. The main emphasis of the conference will be placed on issues related to ecological solutions for hotels. The discussed topics will include: energy management in the hotel industry, ECO-Spa, the marketing of an ECO-hotel, green sources of heat or innovative lighting. Particularly interesting seminars will be devoted to emotional hotels and investments in historical buildings, i.e., how to create a professional historical brand. Moreover, the programme of the event includes issues related to running SPA facilities and using instruments facilitating hotel management. by Katarzyna Jardanowska

Fun and passion The latest railway, air, marine and car models, as well as giant mock-ups, figurines, accessories, tools for model making, toys and social games – all this can be seen in Poznań during the October HOBBY fair. Great sports emotions HOBBY means first of all shows at which the audience can admire the whole beauty, precision and craftsmanship of the presented models. But it also means great sports emotions, always aroused by remote control car races. Also this year RC enthusiasts who come to the fair will have an opportunity to watch the qualifying round to the Polish Indoor RC Car Championship. The races always attract the most numerous au-

dience. Another competition at the fair is going to be the Polish Railway Model Championship, which every year attracts the leading Polish model makers and large audience.

Something interesting for everyone The trade fair guests are well aware of the fact that at HOBBY everybody will find something for him or herself – small children can play with giant vehicles, older ones admire RC cars rushing at amazing speed and adults – appreciating the precision of workmanship, cannot take their eyes of trains rushing on tracks. This year, special “playgrounds” and model making workshops are going to be organised for little hobbyists. HOBBY is an excellent place where you can find interesting family activities for autumn and winter evenings. This is where every year experienced hobbyists from all over the country meet those who only just start their adventure with model making. This year the trade fair visitors will be able to admire a module model in the HO scale and another one in the TT scale. It will be the first time when such a large model is presented at HOBBY.

Model Making, Toys and Games Exhibition

The Poznań fair has become enormously popular among model makers and social game players. In 2010 it was visited by 18 thousand people. 215 companies and individuals – enthusiasts of model making and games – presented their products, models and collections.

BArBArA VoGt Manager of HOBBY

We are happy to invite you to the next edition of HOBBY. Last year we decided to expand the thematic scope of the event, as a result of which today HOBBY is not only about model making – it also features the offers of manufacturers and distributors of toys and social games. The trade fair visitors welcomed the change and the large audience of the last edition of the fair had a really good time. Traditionally, we invite model making businesses, manufacturers and distributors of games, but first of all manufacturers and distributors of toys. At the Poznań trade fair you can meet your potential customers.

Welcome to the world of games In a great lending library called the Games Room, organised for the first time last year, the enthusiasts of social games will have a chance to test their skills in the most popular social games. Here, you will see the latest titles that are just being launched into the market. Children, parents as well as professional players will have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with: family board games, strategic, adventure, economic, logical, negotiation, auction and cooperation games. by Katarzyna Łuźniak 3/2011

AQUAZOO

Aquarium and Terrarium Show

A meeting of people with passion Veiltails, green swordtails, or maybe bird-eating spiders or turtles? These and other species can be seen in Poznań in autumn. The enthusiasts of aquarian fish, lizards and spiders are meeting at the subsequent edition of the AQUAZOO Aquarium and Terrarium Show. Expanded thematic scope of fair So far AQUAZOO has taken place every 2 years, usually at the beginning of the year. In the case of this edition not only the dates of the event have changed but also its thematic scope. The changes were initiated by the hobbyists who attend the fair in large numbers. There were people fascinated with reptiles, amphibians or insects coming to us and asking if we could organise an event especially for them. That is why we decided to extend the thematic scope of AQUAZOO and include reptile, amphibian and insect keeping, says manager of the project Barbara Vogt. At the fair you will have an opportunity to see the offers of breeders but also manufacturers and distributors of aquariums and terrariums, equipment and accessories, feed, care products and medicines, and services related to keeping an

aquarium or terrarium. The trade fair exhibitors are given an opportunity to showcase market novelties and the most beautiful specimens of animals, as well as to meet their customers – both business clients and individual hobbyists.

Interesting programme of events The cooperation with the most important journals and websites devoted to aquariums and terrariums, as well as with relevant societies and clubs guarantees an interesting programme of events. These organisations have become very much involved in the preparation of exhibitions, competitions and lectures for both experienced enthusiasts and those who are only just thinking of starting their adventure with aquariums or terrariums. Among other attractions, a lecture is to be held on the subject of African hedgehog keeping for amate-

urs, as well as on the subject of feeding semi-aquatic turtles. Lizard lovers will have a chance to listen to a lecture on the characteristics of selected colour varieties and their impact on the behaviour and health of the Leopard Gecko (Eublepharis macularius) in captivity. Just like last year, the trade fair visitors will choose the most beautiful aquarium and terrarium from among those presented at the fair.

Attractions for visitors AQUAZOO enjoys unflagging popularity among visitors. Beautiful expositions, wonderful animal specimens, presentations and lectures, as well as a possibility to meet aquarists with years of experience, attract to Poznań thousands of hobbyists. This year the number of visitors will be even bigger as it will include also the enthusiasts of reptile, amphibian and insect keeping. The Poznań International Fair in October is a real mecca for all kinds of hobbyists, as along with the AQUAZOO Aquarium and Terrarium Show, the Dog Show and the HOBBY Model Making, Toys and Games Exhibition are to be held. by Katarzyna Łuźniak

Stone Industry Fair

Solutions for the stone industry Soon the KAMIEŃ-STONE Stone Industry Fair is to take place in Poznań. This business event, organised for the third time by the Poznań International Fair (MTP) and a Wrocław company Geoservice-Christi, offers stone enthusiasts an excellent opportunity to meet and broaden their knowledge. JERZY KACZMAREK Manager of KAMIEŃ-STONE

I invite you to take part in the KAMIEŃ-STONE Stone Industry Fair and to contribute to the development of the fair, which is a forum for the exchange of experiences, an exhibition of product novelties and an arena of business talks. The participation in the fair enables you to effectively reach your target group of clients: architects, designers, sculptors, monument restorers, owners of stonecutting businesses. For them, KAMIEŃ-STONE is a source of new business ideas and knowledge on innovations and the stone market in Poland and in the world. Here, they have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with machines, devices and specialist vehicles, as well as to seek the advice of experts present at the stands.

A very international fair Since its first edition in 2009 KAMIEŃ-STONE has enjoyed the reputation of the greatest business event of the stone industry in East-Central Europe. The fact that the fair is of international significance and of key importance for the region is evidenced in the number of foreigners who come to Poznań in order to present here their offers. The Poznań fair is present at world stone exhibitions, it is written about it in international press and the industry’s leaders from all over the world have already declared that they would participate in this year’s edition. The Poznań International Fair (MTP) and Geoservice-Christi focus on promoting natural stone among architects, investors, designers and individual clients. This year’s KAMIEŃSTONE will abound in attractions, from among which the representatives of all these target groups will definitely be able to choose something suitable for them. Seminars, exhibitions, competitions and shows may be a nice, but also very useful break between

business talks, or – even a main reason for coming to the fair.

Demand for prestige KAMIEŃ-STONE is taking place for the third time and it has grown to have its own stone trophies. The introduction of awards for outstanding products and the most attractive stand design is one of the most important novelties of this year’s fair. During the previous editions we could see many wonderful products and unique expositions, which delighted us in many ways: with their beauty, innovativeness, technological solutions or design. This year awards are to be given for products in two categories: natural stone and machines, devices and tools. The most beautiful stands are to be awarded with Claudiuses. The awards took their name from the name of the patron of stonecutters and statue-makers. For the second time during KAMIEŃSTONE awards are to be granted in the “Design in Stone” competition, organised by the “Nowy Kamieniarz” magazine. Just like last year, the trade fair visitors will be able to admire the implementation of the awarded projects at a specially prepared exhibition. At the same time, the editing board of the “Świat Kamienia” magazine is going to award the best stone designs with “Kamień 2011” awards. The Caryatid Statuettes are to be awarded in three categories:

stone in architecture, tombstone and sculpture. Apart from that, a competition for professionals is to be held, giving stonecutters an opportunity to compete for the title of the “Sandblasting Champion” in a competition involving the fastest and the highest quality sandblasting of a tombstone, organised by the company Abra.

Wide spectrum of possibilities KAMIEŃ-STONE 2011 will also provide you with a good opportunity to broaden your knowledge on many important subjects. Just like at the previous edition of the fair, the Speakers’ Corner is to be organised in pavilion 6A and lectures are to be delivered. Among the lecturers there is going to be Stanisław Sitarz, the President of the Stone Industry Employers’ Association (ZPBK). On November 11th a series of lectures is to be held on the meaning of stone in landscape. Acknowledged experts are to run seminars on petrographic studies in the renovation of stone constructions or on countryside landscape, in which stone is a distinguishing feature. Yet another subject to be discussed is the possibilities of utilising disused quarries. Moreover, especially for stonecutters outdoor forklift shows are to be held every hour, demonstrating the capabilities of forklifts that can be applied when working with stone. The representatives of the industry will definitely be interested in the exhibition of photographs dedicated to stone travels. Stone enthusiasts will be able to take part in mosaic workshops and visit the market of gemstones and minerals. by Joanna Sobkowiak

or years, the stand construction team of MTP has grown in power. No wonder, as it builds almost 6,000 stands with a total surface area of several dozen full-size football pitches a year! No other company operating in this industry can boast similar achievements, and years of experience translate into stunning stands designed so as to, on the one hand, enable the achievement of exhibitors’ objectives, and on the other, ensure comfort to business customers and employees. IDEAEXPO.MTP, as this will be the name of the team handling the construction of MTP exhibition stands since November this year, is a genuine expert in its field. Exhibitors are provided not only with standard service. Experienced consultants prepare for fair participants comprehensive, custom-made offers in the area of construction of stands in Poznań along with comprehensive logistics, storage and installation services at any fair organised in Poland and all over the world. They advise on what to do to ensure that a stand attracts attention, stands out from the compe-

tition, and at the same time is optimised in terms of price. They also help develop a concept for a fair presentation so as to effectively translate the company’s strategy into the design of the stand. Exhibitors are supported by the best designers having highest-class software allowing to precisely draw each detail. Their visions are transferred from computer screens to the fair pavilions by experienced assemblers, who ensure impeccable execution of the design. The on-site technical service and the biggest collection of furniture and modern accessories in Poland are also of great importance to the efficiency of operations of the team. The IDEAEXPO.MTP team’s experience is also proven by its previous achievements in the area of implementation of non-standard projects. – Interesting projects we can be proud of include the exhibition in the European Parliament entitled ‘Enigma Decipher Victo-

ry’, professional horse competition rings meeting stretching criteria of the organisers of horse racing competitions, comprehensive handling of the National Breeding Animals Exhibition prepared on an annual basis by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, fully equipped conference rooms, with the most spectacular ones prepared for the Climate Change Conference COP 14. We can change any space according to even the most untypical customer needs. And they include market leaders representing almost all economic sectors – says Zbigniew Józefiok, Head of the Technical Service Division. – The challenges we are facing include not only growing expectations of exhibitors, but also trends and fashions, manifesting themselves, for instance, in the use of untypical materials and architectural solutions, which so far have not been associated with the art of exhibition. by Marzanna Wiśniewska

Important voice on waste issue Recent studies have shown that an average Pole produces between 200 and 300 kg waste a year, but the environmental awareness and good habits, such as segregating waste, are still not very common. The fourth edition of the KOMTECHNIKA International Trade Fair of Municipal Technologies is an attempt at facing the issue and – first of all – a presentation of the latest solutions for the providers of technical and technological offers for the industry. The fair is to be held simultaneously with the POLEKO International Trade Fair of Environmental Protection. Special communication platform KOMTECHNIKA is one in its kind tool of marketing communication between the providers of technical and technological municipal solutions, the professionals from government units responsible for the municipal economy and people representing municipal service departments, enterprises rendering cleaning services and maintenance services for green areas, city road departments and cooperatives. INVESTFIELD

Property and Investment Exhibition

Joanna Mizerska Manager of GMINA

GMINA is a relatively new event, but it has managed to garner the acclaim of exhibitors, visitors and industry associations. The latter frequently choose GMINA to be the venue for prestigious meetings and conferences. We are also pleased with the constant growth of the number of registrations for the INVESTFIELD Property and Investment Exhibition. Local governments try to think prospectively, and they are constantly looking for investors, also during INVESTFIELD in Poznań. For us this is a reason to be proud and an evidence of trust.

Local government – Business – Civil society The latest research of CBOS (the Public Opinion Research Center) indicates that Poles’ attachment to the so-called little homeland is growing. The increasing local patriotism brings about the increased expectations from local governments, whose task is to provide the sense of security and comfort of living to local communities. The address at which the representatives of local governments arrive in search of optimal solutions aiding the dynamic development of the regions is the GMINA Fair of Products and Services for Local Governments. Arena for public and private sector meetings The GMINA Fair of Products and Services for Local Governments implements the idea of public-private partnership. Here, in the same time and place, the producers and providers of services improving the functioning of the regions meet with the representatives of local governments responsible for the performance of LSU’s own tasks. The exhibition offer of GMINA helps to make effective and beneficial decisions regarding the planned investments. During GMINA 2010 fair Local Government and Business Forum was held as a series of conferences and debates organized under the honorary auspices of the Minister of Regional Development

The third edition of GMINA is to be held soon. This year’s edition of the event, winning the ever-growing acclaim and prestige, is to take place under the motto: Local Government. Business. Civil Society. This slogan points at both the need of effective communication among the entrepreneurs and investors and local governments, as well as the necessity of local communities’ active participation in common activities. This year’s edition of GMINA is to be held under the honorary auspices of the Association of Polish Cities (ZMP), the Association of Rural Communes of the Republic of Poland (ZGW RP), the National Association of Village Leaders (KSS), the Union of Polish Metropolises (UMP), the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ) and the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Exhibitors’ offer A strength frequently pointed at by the visitors of GMINA is the wide range of the offered products and services. This year’s exhibitors will present the solu-

The visitors of GMINA – commune and village heads, mayors and district governors – will be able to become exhibitors presenting investment offers of their regions. It will be possible during the INVESTFIELD Property and Investment Exhibition held within GMINA. The thematic scope of this event will also include the offer of the special economic zones and the institutions supporting the development of regions.

Wide-ranging programme of the fair As it was the case with the previous editions of the fair, this year’s GMINA is to be accompanied by an interesting programme of events. This year the function of the programme partner is performed by the Association of Polish Cities (ZMP) and it is its initiative to hold the 5th Economic Congress of Cities and Regions, which is to take place under the slogan “The Cohesion Policy in the Financial Policy of the EU”. During the debates and forums held at the fair the following issues will be addressed: public-private partnership, energy saving, municipal waste property, and the effective marketing for towns and regions. An important and prestigious event taking place during GMINA will be an informal meeting of european ministers of regional development, as one of the points of the Polish presidency in the EU. by Monika Wietrzyńska 3/2011

Zofia StrzyŻ

Manager of the Art and Craft Festival

The Art and Craft Festival is a unique event. This is where artists and craftsmen who present a wide variety of their works from various fields show their talent and the visitors are given a wonderful opportunity to purchase unique Christmas presents. We cordially invite you to Poznań. It is really worth visiting.

Trade fair changed into a gallery The magic of pre-Christmas atmosphere is going to permeate the Poznań fair for the eighth time. In a modern exhibition complex, in pavilions connected with glass passageways, even more charming thanks to the natural trees preserved by their constructors, artists are going to present their works and suggestions for Christmas presents.

Dose of emotions and sensations At the cosy stalls of the Art and Craft Festival you can find a great variety of stunningly beautiful handmade objects. Each of the products is unique. Paintings, graphics, artistic fabrics, sculptures, but also stained glass, ceramics, jewellery, bags, clothes, accessories, interior decoration articles, season’s decorations, folk crafts. All of this you can admire and purchase.

Christmas magic The Art and Craft Festival is a place one of its kind, in which the magical pre-Christmas atmosphere plays a role equally important as the beauty of the displayed objects. It is a space in which graduates and students of fine art schools, folk artists, regional craftsmen, as well as talented amateurs present unique works, so far known only in small circles. The Poznań event is also an opportuni-

ty to demonstrate and popularise various art techniques through interesting workshops, which enjoy more and more interest from the audience. The unique atmosphere of the exposition, friendly to both the artists and the audience, makes the event extremely popular among visitors and makes it win more and more enthusiasts every year. In 2010 the festival was visited by over 13 thousand people and nearly everyone left having bought something – big or small. Among the visitors there were individuals, owners of shops and galleries from Poland and abroad, as well as the representatives of the advertising industry. This year the number of funs of the Art and Craft Festival will grow even bigger, as the event is to be held simultaneously with CAVALIADA – an extremely popular trade fair designed for the enthusiasts of horse riding.

Polish Art Exhibition SEE THE CHANGES 2011 A special event of the eighth edition of the Art and Craft Festival is to be the Polish Art Exhibition SEE THE CHANGES 2011, organised by the Warsaw branch of the Association of Polish Artists (ZPAP). Works in the field of painting, sculpture, graphics and fabrics are going to be presented by famous artists from Poland and abroad. Oscar Wilde in his novel the Picture of Dorian Gray wrote: „There is nothing that art cannot express.” The Art and Craft Festival is the best evidence that it is true.

POZNAŃ FAIR MAGAZINE

2011 is a jubilee year for the Poznań International Fair (MTP). In May we were celebrating the round 90th anniversary of the first Poznań Fair. The celebrations of the 90th anniversary of MTP have been going on for the whole year. Their main part – the formal Jubilee Ceremony held on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of MTP – took place in June at the Innovations-TechnologiesMachines Poland trade fair.

The Jubilee Ceremony was graced up by the granting of the Economic Award of the President of the Republic of Poland by President Bronisław Komorowski and by the concert given by winner of the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition Ingolf Wunder and the Poznań Philharmonic. In addition to that, during the ceremony the highest state distinctions were awarded to the employees of MTP for outstanding achievements in the promotion of the Polish economy and their contribution to the development of the Poznań international Fair (MTP). The guest of honour at the celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the Poznań International Fair (MTP) was President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski. From the left: President of the City of Poznań Ryszard Grobelny, President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski and President of the Board of MTP Andrzej Byrt during the anniversary celebrations.

The 90th anniversary of MTP was celebrated also at specialist industry fairs; for instance, the evening meeting organised at the BAKEPOL fair was an opportunity to taste a jubilee cake made by confectionery masters Wojciech Szaberski and Iwona Głuchowska representing a Kielce confectionery called “Baletka.” The confectionery masters served their occasional cake personally.

President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski unveiled the plaque commemorating June 1956 in Poznań. On the plaque, placed in front of the Eastern Hall of MTP you can see the picture which in 1956 was showed in the news all over the world. The photograph comes from the collection of the June 1956 Poznań Uprising Museum and depicts a group of protesters carrying a bloodied white and red flag. The words under the photo read: “Here the world saw the events of June 1956.”

The important position of the Poznań International Fair (MTP) in the world and its great significance for the development of the Polish economy was reflected in numerous congratulatory letters. The photograph shows Marshal of the Wielkopolska province Marek Woźniak granting President of the Board of the Poznań International Fair (MTP) Andrzej Byrt a graphic picture made especially on this occasion.

The Cup of the President of the Board of MTP went to the winner of the Jubilee Regatta – the team of PPH Gass and helmsman Tadeusz Garniewski. The team which ranked the second was from the company Homag Polska, and the one which ranked the third – from the company Korsil. Sailing enthusiasts, exhibitors and MTP partners representing various industries formed over 30 teams and in July, on the waters of Lake Kisajno, competed for the Cup of the President of MTP in the Jubilee Regatta organised on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Poznań International Fair.

Poznań showed chic and class Trends for the upcoming seasons, modern brand promotion techniques and fashion on bikes – all this could be seen at the autumn edition of the poznań Fashion Fair. The three trade fair days abounded in business meetings, seminars for traders, shows of fashion and the latest trends. As many as 460 brands presented their new collections.

latest trends’ fair The August Poznań Fashion Fair (Targi Mody Poznań) consisted of three parts, dedicated to separate sectors of the fashion industry. At the NEXT SEASON Exhibition of Clothing, Lingerie and Accessories you could see the offer of women’s, men’s, children’s and youth clothes, lingerie and accessories for the season of spring and summer 2012. The FAST FASHION Exhibition featured short clothes collections designed for immediate retail sale. Here, traders could complement their current offer with trends for the season of autumn and winter 2011/2012. At the BTS Exhibition of Shoes, Leather and Leather Goods you could see footwear and leather products. The fair promoted franchising as a way to have one’s own business in the fashion industry. Specially marked stands of franchisors enjoyed significant interest from the visitors. For three days the Poznań Fashion Fair was visited by nearly 5 thousand people. The data obtained thanks to the most modern system of entrance

and exit registration installed at the ground of the Poznań International Fair (MTP) makes it possible to fully verify the clients visiting the fair, which guarantees the professional character of the event.

Focus on modernity During the Poznań Fashion Fair you could take advantage of the rich offer of seminars. This time, the emphasis was laid on the unique knowledge in the field of the latest communication technologies and the possibilities of utilising them in the promotion of garment and footwear brands. QR-codes, efficient mailing, Facebook and websites presenting collections in the 3D technology ceased to be a mystery for numerous traders who listened to the lectures. There were also seminars devoted to the fashion forecasts for the upcoming

seasons, thanks to which traders, but also manufacturers, could find out what trends were worth investing in. The Fair is not only a place where you can sign business contracts and gain new clients. It is also an opportunity to meet other professionals and discuss the situation of the industry. During the Poznań Fashion Fair the Polish Leather Industry Chamber (OIBS), seated in Radom, organised a meeting of manufacturers and traders associated in the Chamber as well as those who are not its members, exhibitors and the trade fair guests. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the situation of the industry and ways of improving it. The report from this meeting can be found on www.oibs.pl.

www.targimodypoznan.pl

Fashion loves bikes Fashion shows were an important element of the Poznań Fashion Fair programme. One of them attracted special interest from the media and visitors due to its original form. The brands of COTTON CLUB, KUMI, MIDORI and SEMPER showcased their collections for the season of spring and summer 2012 on models who were riding bikes. This extraordinary fashion show – Cycle Chic – proved that you don’t have to give up stilettos and skirts to ride a bicycle. The audience admired the original combinations of stylish bicycles with extremely feminine suggestions of clothes, shoes and accessories.

Coming for prestige The Poznań Fashion Fair is a venue where many awards and distinctions are given and it was no different this time – during a formal Award Giving Ceremony the Poznań International Fair Gold Medals, Fashion Website Awards and – for the first time – Interactors, i.e. awards for companies which are the best in the industry at utilising interactive communication with customers were given. The Gold Medals for products entered by the exhibitors of the NEXT SEASON Exhibition of Clothing, Lingerie and Accessories and the FAST FASHION Exhibition were awarded by the Competition Jury chaired by Prof. Irmina Aksamitowska (Department of Fashion Design at the Łódź Academy of Art). From among the exhibitors of the BTS Exhibition of Shoes, Leather and Leather Goods the winners were chosen by the Competition Jury chaired by Prof. engineer Zbigniew Karbarz, Ph.D. (Department of Design, Footwear and Clothing at the Technical University of Radom). The products entered by the exhibitors were evaluated with respect to quality, innovativeness and – what is very important in fashion – design. Among the products which the Competition Juries regarded as worth awarding were: boys’ clothing collection “Reksio constructs” entered by the company Barbaras from Staszów; men’s jacket made by the company

Folstop from Wałbrzych, entered by the company Koala; jacket, polo T-shirt and REJAY shirts by JFP from Warsaw. Among the awarded companies from the leather industry were: Texpol from Dłutów for bamboo cellulose fibre fabric designed for to be used for internal components and surfaces of children’s shoes and footwear for people with reduced feet dexterity; Adonis from Kościelec for Adonis women’s shoes; Marco for women’s open pumps; Nadarzyn Tannery for PEKARI chrome-free pig linen. In addition to that, young designers – students of the Technical University of Radom – were also awarded: Marta Konstanta for “Jean and vintage styling” women’s footwear collection, and Anna Piekarczyk for the project of a collection of children’s footwear designs inspired by a fable by Jan Brzechwa “The Eccentric Duck”.

Virtual fashion awarded Expanding the field of activities by companies from the fashion industry on the internet has also been reflected at the fair, where for several years awards have been granted to fashion websites. At the Poznań Fashion Fair the Fashion Website Awards were officially handed out. In this edition of the competition the jury, consisting of ten jurors – representatives of interactive and media agencies, fashion designers, specialists in visual communication – evaluated ebusinesses operating in the fashion industry. The criteria for evaluation included aesthetics, functionality, intuitive operation, forms of payment and convenience for the customer. The best e-boutiques in the fashion industry as chosen by the jury of the seventh edition of Fashion Website Awards are as follows: Wittchen, Vip Syle, PHU Obsession and Intymna.pl. At this year’s fair for the first time INTERACTOR awards were granted to companies which are the best in the industry at utilising interactive communication with their customers. The trade awards were given by the editing board of the Szopek Magazine and Polak 2.0 Foundation – the Organisers and Originators of INTERACTORS. The jury awarded those brands that

best interact, i.e., make use of the potential offered by Facebook, blogs, micro-blogs, YouTube. The winning companies were: Top Secret, Moodo and Bartek.

Necktie Tying Champion The guests of the trade evening accompanying the Poznań Fashion Fair could take part in an exciting necktie tying competition. The ties were lent by the company Digel and they were tied not only by men but also women. The courage of the latter paid off as one of them won the first award, having shown the greatest skills in tying the node. The jurors – President of the Board of the Poznań International Fair Andrzej Byrt and editor in chief of “Moda Męska” Jerzy Osika – were impressed by the aesthetical value of the victorious node. The winner of the first prize was given the title of the Necktie Tying Champion of the Poznań Fashion Fair. Additionally, all three winners that reached the podium were awarded with exclusive silk ties by Digel. The competition was held under the patronage of the trade journal “Moda Męska” (Men’s Fashion). by Marta Siek

POLSKIE ZBOŻA plant production Fair

An exceptional

agricultural exhibition Polskie Zboża is yet another professional event in the MTP calendar devoted to the agriculture sector. In June this year, during the two trade fair days 4.5 thousand professionals visited the fair and familiarised themselves with the offer of nearly 100 exhibitors from Poland and from abroad.

Sprinklers’ Arena and field machine shows Every day, the professionally commented shows held at the Sprinklers’ Arena attracted a great number of interested farmers. In a specially prepared space you could see demonstrations of sprinklers of such makes as: Amazon, Agri-Team, Berthoud, Kuhn, TechnoSerwis and Unia Group. What was also interesting was the exposition of exhibitors from the agriculture machine sector, involving the latest offer of machines and tools used for everyday work on a farm. On the area of 6 ha of the demonstration space you could see how these machines work in practice. The exhibitors presented agriculture machines of many world makes, such as: John Deere, Amazone, CASE IH, Kuhn, Tech-Kom, Väderstad, Unia, Fendt, Massey Ferguson, Gregoire Besson.

Cultivation know-how The fair was accompanied with lectures and practical demonstrations of the know-how of cultivation and seed businesses and producers of plant protection products. Numerous guests had an opportunity to listen to lectures on new legal regulations in the European Union, the future of the common agriculture policy and sustainable agriculture, delivered by the representatives of the companies Zakłady Azotowe Puławy and Bayer Crop Science. What enjoyed great interest was also lectures on protecting rapeseed plantations by the company Syngenta and the presentation of Top Farms Agro concerning the prices of seeds. More lectures were given by trade societies and associations: the Seed Agency (Agencja Nasienna) and the Polish Federation of Crops Producers (Krajowa Federacja Producentów Zbóż).

New trends in agriculture Polskie Zboża is a dynamically developing specialist exhibition devoted to plant production in Poland. As in the previous years, the exhibition was located on the Top Farms farm in the village of Mozdrze in the Wielkopolska province.

On the area of 35 ha 4 thematic zones were separated, which included: • over 200 demonstration plots, • the Sprinklers’ Arena, • the agriculture machine and demonstration zone, • the Business Alley – a space for companies providing services in the agriculture industry, chemical companies, businesses dealing with consulting and research for the agriculture industry, as well as trade institutions and associations, • sectors: post-harvest technology, renewable energy and root vegetables

The Polskie Zboża fair was organised by the Poznań International Fair (MTP) in cooperation with the company Montgomery Polska. The strategic sponsor of this year’s edition of the fair was the company Syngenta and the sponsors of transport – the companies Toyota and Yamacha. The fair was held under the main media auspices of Top Agrar

Polska. The idea of Polskie Zboża has been endorsed by numerous trade societies and associations, and the honorary patronage was held by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Plant novelties, fertiliser protection What enjoyed great interest was demonstration plots, the creation of which started as soon as in August 2010. The visitors had an opportunity to learn about different varieties of winter cereals (rapeseed, wheat, barley, triticale, rye), spring plants (barley, wheat, rye, potatoes, maize, lupine, yellow and blue lupine), as well as varieties of white beets, soya, sugarsnap and edible peas. The presentations of new varieties and modern technologies were additionally enriched with experts’ advice. Among those who presented their plots were: Belarusian Potash Company, Danko Hodowla Roślin, Ekoplon, Euralis, IHAR – Hodowla Roślin Smolice, IHAR – Hodowla Roślin Strzelce, Intermag, KWS Lochów Polska, Limagrain, Osadkowski, PHR – Poznańska Hodowla Roślin, Pioneer, PRP Polska, Rolnik – Hurtownia Środków do Produkcji Rolno-Spożywczej, Serafin, Syngenta, Top Farms Agro, UAB Agroyoumis. At the demonstration plots you could also see the results of applying basic, nitrogen and foliar fertilizers.

Polskie Zboża and Zielone Agro Show together In 2012 the Polskie Zboża fair is to gain a new quality thanks to the Zielone Agro Show exhibition, which is to take place together with Polskie Zboża. The Zielone Agro Show is an exhibition dedicated first of all to modern technologies, including the production technology of high quality bulky feed and engineering related to cattle breeding. The exhibition’s popularity is due to, for instance, the demonstration of the work of machines for green matter collection. This year there were 130 exhibitors and the area rented by the companies amounted to 14 thousand sq m, whereas the whole exhibition covered the area of 30 ha. The experience of both the Polish Chamber of Commerce for Agricultural Machines and Facilities (PIGMiUR) – the organiser of the Zielone Agro Show – and the Poznań International Fair (MTP) in the organisation of exhibitions for the agriculture industry will definitely contribute to creating a strong brand of Polskie Zboża–Zielone Agro Show. The next edition of Polskie Zboża-Zielone Agro Show is to be held in Kąkolew, in the Grodzisk Wielkopolski commune, from 1st to 3rd June 2012. 3/2011

ROLTECHNIKA agricultural exhibition

Unique agriculture industry meeting

All those interested in modern agriculture who took part in the ROLTECHNIKA Agricultural Exhibition in Wilkowice in the commune of Lipno near Leszno had an opportunity to see machines and equipment necessary for economical and efficient running of a farm. The “Wilkowice machine festival”, because this is what this event is called, is the only such meeting in Poland and one of few such meetings in Europe. Traditionally, the exposition of the exhibitors of ROLTECHNIKA accompanied the Polish Jerzy Samelczak Antique Tractors Festival, well-known both in Poland and abroad.

Modern agriculture in Wilkowice At a sunny August weekend thousands of collectors and lovers of antique tractors and exhibitors presenting state-of-the-art agriculture machines met on a field in Wilkowice. The exposition of the fifth edition of the ROLTECHNIKA Agricultural Exhibition included devices used for everyday field works. Among the exhibitors were the leaders of the agriculture machines market. The visitors could familiarise themselves with top-notch tractors, loaders, carts and sprayers. The capabilities of the latest agriculture machinery were showcased at a specially prepared manoeuvre yard. Attraction for antique vehicles lovers The enthusiasts of antique agriculture technology travelled 100 years back in time in order to experience the changes that have taken place in the construction and operation of machines. As part of the Antique Tractors Festival the enthusiasts from the “Tractor and Machine” Antique Tractor and Farm Machinery Fan Club from the village of Lipno in the Wielkopolska province and collectors from Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic presented historic vehicles of such brands

as: Ursus, Zetor, Ford, Volvo, Fendt, Hanomag, Kramer, Rumely, Farmall, Deutz, Lanz Buldog and John Deere. There were also historic stationary engines. The presented machines came from the period between the 20s and the 70s of the previous century. Superbly maintained and restored tractors could be seen in action during the competitions and presentations such as the “Bombaj Starting” competition (bombaj being a popular name for Ursus C-45 and Lanz Bulldog) or the “Hand Crank Starting” competition. Seminars, conferences and presentations accompanying the exhibition allowed all those interested to familiarise themselves with the current situation in the packaging industry, to exchange experiences relating to innovation, technology and security of packaging, while creating a favourable atmosphere for establishing business contacts in an international circle. During PAKFOOD, to emphasise the importance of packaging for the whole food industry, the second edition of the Packaging Day was held along with seminars on current issues concerning the packaging industry in Poland organised by the Polish Chamber of Packaging (PIO), the Packaging Research and Development Centre (COBRO) and the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing (ILiM) in cooperation with the Poznań International Fair (MTP). Lectures gave a closer look at innovations applied in packaging. The programme was also enriched by presentations of companies concerning, for instance, logistics in the packaging industry. The issue of innovation in the industry was also raised by the Conference ”Innovative Packaging” constituting a valuable forum for exchanging experiences on modern trends and opportunities in packaging among the suppliers of technology, machinery, equipment and materials for packaging, the representatives of packaging printing offices and graphic studios designing packaging, and their clients. The meeting of professionals from the packaging industry was organised by the publishing house Polski

Fresh packaging ways The restrictive law for the food industry, requiring the highest standards of hygiene and environment protection, as well as the growing requirements of consumers, set the directions for the implementation of technological innovativeness in food packaging. These trends can be seen at PAKFOOD. PAKFOOD is an appreciated forum for the presentation of the latest solutions and technologies, which often make their debuts at the Poznań fair. Also during this year’s fair among the products marked as novelties you could see the latest technological solutions in the field of packaging, packaging machines, balers, printers, labellers, stamping machines, barcode verifiers, vacuum pumps and many others.

breeders’ jubilee Despite reaching its quarter century, the largest and most important breeders’ exhibition in Poland is in excellent shape. This was evidenced by the breeders who came to the fair to proudly showcase the best specimens of horses, beef and dairy cattle, pigs, deer, fallow deer, Polish beefalos, alpacas, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens, ostriches, fur-bearing animals (rabbits, chinchillas, and nutria), bees, snails and fish. The excellent condition of the industry is also evidenced by the shower of awards: over 200 titles of super champions, champions and vice-champions, nearly one thousand of gold and silver medals, as well as distinctions for “the Meritorious for the Agriculture Industry” awarded by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Marek Sawicki. sented. Breeding animals exhibitions have been organised in Poznań since 2001. Over the last ten years, breeders from Poland, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands presented here over 14 thousand animals, and the exposition has been seen by nearly 420 thousand people.

Attractive programme of events This year’s edition of the National Breeding Animals Exhibition attracted many visitors to the grounds of MTP, as it was visited not only by numerous professionals but also by lovers of animals who took advantage of this rare opportunity not only to see up close many unique animal species, but also to talk to their owners. A rich programme of events was abundant with attractions, competitions with awards and curiosities addressed to the whole families. Emotions and an atmosphere of sports rivalry accompanied the football match of Green Leg Partridge Hens and Barred Rock Hens. The one in its kind poultry derby was organised by the National Research Institute of Animal Production (PIB).

For four days you could admire skill competitions in horse vehicles driving, shows of herding dogs, making sheep cheese and sheep shearing. Football fans were excited to watch football matches played by hens and biology enthusiasts – to watch the hatching of seven African ostriches. Also gourmets found something for themselves, as they were served 800 litres of beef stew (the tasting of which was part of the campaign Discover Good Polish Meat) and 3,000 portions of grilled pork products. The organisers of the National Animal Breeding Exhibition are: the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the National Animal Breeding Centre (KCHZ), the National Research Institute of Animal Production and numerous trade societies – animal breeders associations such as the Polish Horse Breeders Association (PZHK), the Polish Federation of Cattle Breeders and Dairy Farmers (PFHBiPM), the Polish Association of Beef Cattle Breeders and Producers (PFHBiPM), the ”POLSUS” Polish Pig Breeders and Producers Association, the National Poultry Council - Chamber of Commerce (KRD-IG), the Polish Union of Sheep-Farmers (PZO), the Polish Rabbit Breeders Association (KZHK), the Polish Chinchilla Breeders Association (KZHS), the Nutria Breeders Association (ZHN), the Inland Fisheries Institute (IRS), the Polish Beekeepers’ Association (PZP) and the Poznań International Fair (MTP). by Karolina Makowska

Poznań Palm House

Warm atmosphere in Poznań

P

The Poznań Palm House is celebrating the hundredth anniversary of its existence. In this one of the oldest gardens in Europe there are unique collections of plants coming from various places in the whole world. A special character and atmosphere of the Palm House is due to 17,000 plants and 200 species of fish. You can see here a banana tree, Arabica coffee trees, a date palm and sugar cane, but also piranhas, electric eels and living stones.

The green lungs of Poznań are one of the oldest tourist attractions of Wielkopolska, dating back to the end of the 19th century. The beginnings of the Poznań Palm House go back to the years 1910-1911, when the Botanical Garden was created and the first exhibition pavilion opened. Over the years, the city orangery has gone through a lot: during the World War II numerous specimens of tropical plants, a rich collection of orchids and an alligator farm were destroyed. Nevertheless, the quick reconstruction of the Palm House and the consistency in expanding its collection created a unique world of plants, which now is so willingly visited not only by the inhabitants of Poznań but also by tourists. The Palm House is surrounded by a historic park – the Wilson’s Park – in which you can find such monuments of nature as a plane tree with a circumference of 410 cm and a willow with a circumference of 430 cm. The whole year round, the Poznań Palm House attracts nature enthusiasts to the city. The greenhouses offer pleasant warmth in the winter and in the summer heat – thanks to special humidifiers and shade – pleasant coolness. Under the glass roof 4,600 sq m large, in 10 exhibition pavilions, among exotic plants, you can see the green iguana, the turtle, the parrot and even the python.

In the centre of the pavilion there is a pool where Victoria water lilies are grown. Their floating leaves, covered with sharp spines on the underside reach the size of 2 m and their unique construction and displacement makes it possible for them to hold the weight of a small child.

Pavilion IV – American succulents. In the pavilion you can see a rich collection of cactuses, which shows the whole rich variety of forms allowing these plants to survive in extremely dry weather.

In the Poznań Palm House, among 1100 species of plants you can find one of the longest growing plants – the European olive tree which survived the critical for the house year of 1945. The oldest plant in the Palm House is a 400 year old Australian sago palm. The interior of the garden hides also specimens of the cork oak, which provides a valuable raw material for the production of bottle corks. Other trees that are especially worth seeing are: a splendid banana tree – a wisdom banana – which can be often seen with a bunch of maturing and aromatic fruit seeds, a black pepper vine, an ebony tree, an Arabica coffee tree and a cocoa tree. In the Palm House you can also find an aquarium. In thirty seven pools with the capacity of 1,000 to 4,000 litres, there are about 200 species of tropical fish and about 40 species of water plants.
