Stardust* Company Profile

Page 1

* We are particles suspended in the infinite universe. Particles as all the other particles, just with different performative abilities. Why should we feel superior? * The house of all of us, our Homeland, is the Planet Earth. The local problems are everybody’s problems because they have effects to all of us. So we all together have to think on how to solve them * Everything is ephemeral, everything changes. We have to learn to do buildings that know, without regrets, to become something new, that we can disassemble and move, that are versatile and flexible. Buildings in which we control the origin, the process of transformation and the later use of each material and element * The Star System is a farce of the previous generation. Architecture is collective art and always was like that. There is no unique author. The architect is like an orchestra or movie director, just that * It is necessary during the teamwork that everyone has the consciousness of his/her role in relation to the general art project. That everyone feels comfortable and enjoy the work. At the end the project will get benefited * The new technologies and the new media of communication determined a revolution on our life and on the artistic teamwork. They give us more freedom and they allow us to realize the old utopias. * The intuition is expression of the mystery of the human mind.

It is the door to our evolution. We need to take care of it and improve it * The love for the life is the base of the artistic work and it is necessary to learn to give space to all the emotions and human manifestations * The economy comes and goes. The art, when it is good, stays * The life is art of the meeting and everybody is autodidact. There aren’t Masters * Emerald City exists and it is that place where everybody, after a bit of adventures, wants to go back home * The good architecture establishes a relation with the sky, during the day and during the night. It can’t be symmetric * The 4 seasons are different depending on the place. How could the architecture have always the same relation to the environment and the time? * The building is body. It has skin, muscles, bones, organs, vital fluids and mind. The good architecture has soul and looks for the deal between its body, its mind, its soul and the environment * The architecture can’t be represented, it has to be directly experienced with the five (or more?) senses * Art and Science are two faces of the same coin. Two applications of the human creativity and have to be respected and improved * The energy flows from a natural element to the other. “Don’t fight the forces, use them” (R. Buckminster Fuller) * Our future will be feminine* About Stardust* Progressive manifesto

About Stardust* What is it? STARDUST* IS AN INTERNATIONAL AND INTERDISCIPLINARY CREATIVE STUDIO FOCUSING ON EMPATHIC INNOVATION.

STARDUST* È UNO STUDIO CREATIVO INTERNAZIONALE ED INTERDISPLINARE CON FOCUS SULL’INNOVAZIONE EMPATICA.

It was born in the November 2008 in Barcelona (Spain) from an idea of Carla Athayde and Francesco Ducato. Working in an international scale and in different art fields produced the need to develop a studio not worried about disciplinary definitions, not dedicated to specialization but concentrated in the construction of new realities defining relations of abilities and talents for each project, with an open source approach. Creation and production work together to realize projects of high quality and efficiency. The management becomes part of the creative process giving guaranties of success to the client and to the Stardust* team. Against the idea of StarSystem we believe on the collective work for the critic, innovative and responsible regeneration of our material (urban and natural) and virtual environment. With this mission Stardust* also created its Research, Development and Innovation Network. Stardust* is at the moment developing projects in Spain, Italy, Brazil and USA and has not geographical limits. Collaborates with many international institutions and university including: UCLA and Watermill Center (USA), FA-UFBA (Brazil), AIU (Syria), ELISAVA, IAAC e FAB LAB BCN (Spain), POLIMI, IUAV, Accademia d’arte di Brera (Milano), UNIPA-D’Arch, SDS_Architettura - Siracusa, Faculty of Architecture of Parma (Italy).

Architecure MEDIA-ICT Barcelona, Spain With:

World’s Best building of the year 2011. World Architecture Festival 2011

MEDIA-ICT 22@ is an experimental district with a powerful, distributed and accessible, energy load. Part of the Districlima network, where new business values are intangible. We were extremely interested in this digital city model based on ICT (information and communication technology), with the idea of a city where what matters is knowledge, added value and patents, in short, where the objective is for your architecture to be in sync with your own values. The building volume forms a cube of 44m x 44m x 37.82m high; the site is 3,572.45 m2 in which the basement occupies the entire area, while above ground the occupation is 54.20%.In total, the Media-ICT has 16,000 m2 above ground and two floors below ground (7100 m2) with capacity for 200 parking spaces. The building is divided so that the upper floors (from eighth to fourth) are rented for big companies, the second and third floor have small spaces for emergent companies and the first floor with the Cibernariun and an auditorium offers a course program oppen to all the city residents. The ground floor does not have pillars; public space invades the building with 36m x 40m of free space. The lobby of the building can host exhibitions, workshops, events… Our construction is built from the top and moves downwards, becoming transparent, anti-gravitational, and almost liquid at the bottom. Thus, its impact on the street is minimal, about 8% mass with respect to the 1500 m2 floor surface area. Unlike most of the buildings, which consume huge amounts of energy, the Media-ICT is designed to be a great generator and optimizes energy use. SIMULATION ENERGY: Thanks to the energy simulation of the building

the demands of heat and cold are adjusted accordingly minimizing the dimensioning of installations. ENCLOSED BUILDING: The façade, made of inflatable ETFE cushions oriented south, act as a variable sunscreen, opening in winter to gain solar energy, and closing in summer to protect and shade. In the south west façade, Nitrogen based fog is introduced in the cushions, that by increasing its particles greater opacity is produced, thereby protecting users. MONITORING: Both the façades and offices have been equipped with multiple temperature sensors, humidity or pressure that collect exterior information to adjust the interior conditions. Media-ICT targets and achieves: 1-20% CO2 reduction due to the use of District Cooling, clean energy. 2-10% CO2 reduction due to the photovoltaic roof. 3-55% CO2 reduction due to the dynamic ETFE sun filters. 4-10% CO2 reduction due to energy efficiency related to smart sensors. Total 95% CO2 reduction, the Media-ICT is a NET building almost a net zero building Project by Cloud 9/Enric Ruiz Geli Project Architect - Francesco Ducato Complete credits and info here: www.stardustudio.com/media-tic-building/ AWARDS - Media-TIC wins WAF 2011_World’s Best Building Of The Year and The European Award for Steelstructures (ECCS)
