Kent Lachman, a well-liked and well-respected leader in the 21st Century Equipment family, has retired effective the end of 2014. A native of the Twin Cities in Minnesota, Kent graduated from Southwest Minnesota State with a degree in ag business. He farmed for a while, then entered the equipment sales business with a focus on over-the-road trucks. He joined 21st Century Equipment in 2007 as location manager in Alliance. In 2011, he agreed to add management of the Gordon location to his duties. In both locations, Kent was able to dramatically improve performance and financial success. “It really comes down to having a team of talented, dedicated people—and that’s what we were able to build in Alliance and Gordon,” said Kent. Kent has seen 21st Century Equipment grow over recent years, and he has been impressed with how the company has managed the changes. “Change is inevitable and change is what you make of it,” he said. “During periods of change, you can be part of the solution or part of the problem. Overall, I think Owen Palm and 21st Century Equipment leadership have done a great job of managing the transition from small to large—and have been able to establish the company as one of the most respected John Deere dealer networks in the nation.” Kent’s wife Laura accepted a position as the CEO of a nursing home in Hillsboro, Kansas, and they are setting up their home in that community. They have two sons, one daughter and four grandchildren.
SCOTTSBLUFF – 21st Century Equipment acquires dealership in Western Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming As of the first of the year, 21st Century Equipment has assumed ownership of the John Deere dealerships in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and Torrington, Wyoming, formerly known as Frank Implement. We look forward to introducing ourselves to customers in these areas, earning your confidence and becoming an integral partner in your plan for success. As our team gets bigger, we are even better positioned to help you address the bigger challenges and opportunities that await in the years ahead. Not Just Staying On Top, But Staying Ahead. Nothing gives you a bigger picture of your operation than the “big data” that today’s technology generates. But bigger is better only if that volume of information is transformed into sound decision making. That’s the advisory role that our Integrated Solutions Group (ISG) plays in working with customers. Our work with you truly is a partnership. You depend on us to provide the expertise and insight to make the most of your technology investment. At the same time, we depend on you to share critical and confidential information about your operation and your objectives—and to do some of the legwork needed to make big data work for you. The key to managing big data starts when you set up your systems at the beginning of the year. That means taking the time—up front—to enter the information that is critical to year-end analysis and planning. Yes, it’s a bit tedious, but setting up your technology with the right information-hybrid numbers, machine offsets, etc.—will make analysis much more efficient and accurate at the end of the year. We can help you determine what you need to know at the end of the year, which dictates what you need to program into your system at the start of the year. Knowing what answers you’re going to want after harvest guides the set-up of your technology at planting time. Technology is also helping us help you—even when we’re not on the farm with you. We can be connected with you (and your technology) remotely. One touch of an iPad in our office or pickup miles away may fix a problem on your farm in a matter of minutes. This technology is allowing our team to be even more responsive—and serve even more customers. We have a two-fold challenge in the ISG team at 21st Century Equipment. First and foremost: Helping our customers leverage their investment in technology and data to their greatest benefit. Managing, organizing and analyzing data— good data—is critical to squeezing efficiency and profitability out of every acre, and managing the small increments that lead to big results. We’re up to the task. The second challenge is internal: Keeping our ISG team current with the latest innovations and getting ready for what’s next. If you stop by our offices, it may look like we’re sitting there noodling on our computers. But it’s a pretty good bet that, when we’re not analyzing a customer’s data, we’re researching the next big idea or new technology on the horizon. And there’s plenty on the way: cloudbased data storage and access, wireless data transfer, and new capabilities through My John Deere and other Deere innovations. We see our job as not simply staying on top of technology, but staying ahead of it. That’s the only way we can ensure that we’re living up to our commitment to help you manage risk and stay profitable and competitive. All of us with the ISG team look forward to working with you in 2015—and we are excited to bring our expertise and insight to new customers in Scottsbluff and Torrington.

HEF Farms off S Sterling, t li CO counts on 21st Century Equipment “When 21st Century Equipment acquired the John Deere dealership in Sterling, we were a bit skeptical about what we could expect in terms of competitive pricing, service and parts, (l-r) Steve, Joey, Rudy & Andrew Hernandez but we have been very pleased— especially in terms of pricing and availability of used equipment. 21st Century Equipment is also great in terms of technology. It’s all worked out really well for us. “The fact that 21st Century Equipment has 17 locations across four states is a real advantage. Getting the parts we need is a huge factor for us—and 21st Century Equipment has been amazing. If they don’t have it here in Sterling, it can be delivered via courier from one of the other locations either that same day or the next day. Tom Becker has set up a parts cabinet right in our shop and he keeps it stocked with the parts we need frequently. That saves time having to run into town when we’re busy—and that’s worth a lot to us. Having the network of 21st Century locations behind our Sterling dealership has been great. If our local dealership doesn’t have an answer, they can find someone in the network who does.”
– Andrew Hernandez of H E Farms Sterling, Colorado
Keep critical parts in stock ‘round the clock The John Deere Parts OnSite Cabinet ...is a great way to keep your shop organized, but its true benefit is in the field. When you stock your cabinet with critical parts to get you through the season, you’ll be ready to get back to work quickly when it really counts.
More uptime – When you work with your John Deere dealer to stock parts inventory, you can get back to the field fast. More time in the field means more money in the bank.
Save money –
You may be able to stock up now and pay later. Ask your dealer if you’re eligible for special financing with your John Deere Financial Multi-Use account.
No waiting – Cut down on trips to the dealership with parts on hand plus, JDParts.com lets you check inventory & place orders through your dealer when it’s convenient for you – 24 hours a day

To Our Valued Friends & Customers... A Happy New Year’s wish to all of you from om eeveryone v ryone here at 21st Century ve Equipment. I want to start my first Flyer letter of the year ar ooff ff by thanking you for your business this past year. We truly appreciate your business andd our our New New Year’s resolution is to do everything we can to Make Farming Easier for you. I want to take this opportunity to welcome our new customers in Scottsbluff and Torrington. We look forward to being your trusted provider of John Deere parts, service and new and used equipment, well into the future. We are excited to be part of these two new communities and assure you we will do everything we can to earn your trust and confidence. I also want to acknowledge the three generations of positive impact the Frank family has had on these two communities and welcome Bryan Frank to our ownership group - maintaining the Frank Family’s 57 year connection with John Deere. I believe one of the greatest strengths of our organization is our firm commitment to local store management. Our Location Managers are empowered to run the local business as if it was their own while relying on the various support resources of the larger organization. They are encouraged to become active members of their respective communities outside of work in order to gain a local perspective of customer needs, farming practices and community expectations. To that end, I am proud to announce the appointment of Don Lemmon and Scott Helt as Location Managers for Torrington and Scottsbluff respectively. Please join me in congratulating them on their appointment to these two key positions in our organization. For all our customers across the entire organization, you now have the resources of a 17-store organization at your fingertips. If your local dealership does not have the part you need, it is very likely we will have to you from one of our other locations, the same day, via our daily courier service that will soon join all 17 locations. If your local Integrated Solutions Specialist is unavailable, or does not have an immediate answer, it is quite likely that one of his colleagues across the Company will be able to help you. If we don’t have the piece of new or used equipment that you are looking for on the local lot, chances are that we will have it at one of our other locations. As we move into 2015, our commitment to recruit local talent has never been stronger. Currently, we are actively recruiting high school applicants for the John Deere Ag Tech programs in Milford, NE and Garden City, KS. In many cases, we provide generous tuition assistance to qualifying students to financially support their training. We are also actively recruiting graduating college seniors, as well as local talent, for full-time positions in a variety of capacities at a number of our locations. These initiatives provide good paying jobs and help keep our rural communities thriving. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in employment with 21st Century Equipment, please contact your local Location Manager or check our website at www.21stCenturyEquipment. net. The business of production agriculture is constantly changing... and the challenges to keep up with evolving technology are becoming greater and greater... but so are the opportunities. You need an equipment supplier and technology partner, who not only helps you keep up, but helps you get ahead. Earning your confidence in us, as one of you Trusted Advisors, is our ongoing commitment to you. In closing, I want to remind you of all the activities going on at your 21st Century Equipment location over the next couple of months… our HUGE annual oil and filter sale, our Green Carpet events introducing the new JD Large Square Baler and our ongoing seeding, spraying and AMS clinics throughout the rest of the winter. Amidst all this activity, I don’t want to miss the opportunity to thank you for your past business and look forward to serving you in 2015 as we begin to prepare for another growing season. Sincerely,
Owen Palm President/CEO

Do You Know The Best Time To Buy Used Equipment? Usually the worst time to buy something is when you’re desperate to have it—or when everyone else wants to buy it as well. That’s definitely the case when it comes to used ag equipment. Buying during the off-season will usually give you a greater selection and a wider range of price options. If you put off the decision, you’ll have fewer options from which to choose—and you may pay more in freight in order to get want you want from a distant location. It’s a good idea to think about replacement when you’re ready to put away a piece of equipment for the season. That’s the time when its performance and condition are fresh in your mind—and it’s probably the best time for you to be shopping for something else. Frankly, our inventory, selection and pricing tend to most favorable just when farmers are finishing up with a particular process. For example, the best time to shop for a used planter is when you’re done planting. The best time to shop for a used combine is right after harvest. Elsewhere in this flyer you’ll read about the Priority Service Program (PSP) that we offer at 21st Century Equipment. PSP goes hand-in-hand with purchasing used equipment. The thorough inspection of PSP gives you—and us—a great idea about the condition of your equipment. That can help you determine if it’s time to replace or repair. And it gives us an accurate assessment of the trade-in and resale value of your equipment. As you know, we’ve added two more locations in our network—Scottsbluff and Torrington. That means two more resources for pre-owned equipment. We also expect to see an even larger variety of the types of equipment available, thanks to these new locations. You’ll likely see more balers, loader tractors and other unique items that haven’t typically been part of our used equipment portfolio. Regardless of w when you decide to start looking for used loo equipment, your search eq qui uipm pment, start st Century Equipment. at 21stt Ce Cent If we can’t find it among our network, our network 17-store netw of contacts aacross the nation is likely to gget you what you need at a price point that makes m ma ke sense.

Tech Talk PSP: That important ounce of prevention. They say an ounce of pprevention r vention is worth a pound of cure. Th re That is especially true when it comes to important equipment on your farm farm. The Priority Service Program (PSP) from 21st Century Equipment reduces your risk of equipment failure during critical times of the year. As a PSP customer, needed repairs are identified and taken care of during the winter downtime so you can have greater confidence in your equipment’s performance during crunch time. You can add any type of equipment on your PSP inventory from tractors and combines to sprayers and planters. The cost varies by item. Qualifying PSP customers receive free trucking to our shop—as well as a full machine wash and detail before we return the equipment to your farm. See your local service manager for details. PSP is not a quick once-over—it’s a thorough, nit-picking inspection. Dyno testing for horsepower. A complete operational run-through. We’ll even take fluid samples and send them for analysis to see if there are any contaminants or metals that might indicate a pending mechanical failure. When we’re done with the inspection, we’ll provide you with a complete list of recommended repairs, categorized by priority. Category A repairs are of an urgent nature and need to be fixed right away. Category B includes issues that aren’t exactly pressing, but could result in failure during the next season. Category C is primarily cosmetic or low priority. You’ll also get a complete estimate for each recommended repair, so you have the information you need to make an informed choice about what to do next. If you choose to take care of everything on the A and B lists, we’ll provide free service calls the rest of the season on any in-field/on-farm repairs on that equipment—plus free trucking if the equipment needs to come into our shop. You just pay for labor and parts. If you put a baler on your PSP program, you can add an optional in-field startup for just $100. One of our talented service technicians will come to your place during your first cutting to fine tune your equipment for optimal performance. (There’s only so much we can do in the shop. Getting it really right has to happen in the field!) PSP has become a key risk management strategy for more customers each year. In Bridgeport alone, we’ve seen the number of PSPs more than double in the past five years. One more thing: We offer deferred payment with no interest on any repairs exceedi ing $1,000. That can be a exceeding big help when you’re alre already spending cash to get your crop in the grou ground. John Deere filters are continually subjected to intensive quality control monitoring and testing during the manufacturing process. These high standards are necessary to protect the valuable investment in your John Deere engine. Benefits of John Deere oil filters: · Even pleats and filtration media spacing ensures even filtration for a better overall protection without gaps · Spiral and crimped center tube adds strength to prevent filtration media from collapsing and letting unwanted particles into your system · Rubber gaskets encourage a tighter seal than plastic gaskets found in competitive filters

Bulk Oil Bulk oil can help with the input side of your profit equation In farming, profit margins are ggetting etting leaner—and fraction leaner and leane er—and every fracti tion of a percent matters. As yo yyou u know, there aree two side producing sides tto o the equation. One sid i e deals with produ uci c ng more and getting focused get e ting higher yields. Th The other side is focuse s d on reducing the cost of production. Buying your engine oil and hydraulic oil in bulk from 21st Century Equipment can save you money in terms of the per-gallon cost—and save time by having what you need on hand when you need it. For many of our customers, many winter hours are spent in the shop or equipment shed getting critical equipment ready for spring. Bulk deliveries assure you of having a supply of engine oil and hydraulic oil on hand as you service your equipment this winter and early spring. If you have some new diesel-powered equipment headed
your way this thhis winter or spring—and spring— —and it’s been a couple couplle of years since you y u purchased new—you yo new— —you will be dealing with with new technology technolo logy focused on reducing redu ducing harmful exhaust exhauust emissions. This Thi h s technology requires requiires the use of diesel diese sel exhaust fluid (D (DEF), which you will nneed eed to add to the fluid d portfolio for your farm. As of 2014, all new John Deere diesel-powered equipment is Tier 4 compliant in terms of exhaust emissions. DEF will become another critical input to ensure that your equipment is running to specifications. It is important to store DEF in a controlled environment in order to maintain its quality. 21st Century Equipment has a full line of DEF in package quantities, as well as tanks, pumps and other accessories you need. We’re also considering the addition of DEF to our bulk deliveries this spring. We’ll keep you posted on

Water Technologies Pivot Maintenance in Cold Temperatures With temperatures t t wellll below b l zero andd snow blowing bl i across the th High Plains, it’s hard to think about your pivot system. But actually, this is a perfect time to do just that. You should have completed check-ups on all gear boxes, drives and electrical systems at the end of the irrigation season. Gear boxes should be checked for leaks or water that needs to be drained off. All seals should be intact. Electrical systems should be inspected for any holes or water encroachment that could cause issues when the system is powered up next year. Rodents can create some real problems over the winter. Make sure panel boxes are sealed and secure, especially where the wires enter. We’ve seen plenty of burned-up panels thanks to mouse nests and gnawing on wiring that cause arcing when the system is fired up in the spring. Check your pivot tires to make sure they have adequate pressure. Inspect them for wear and tear that may affect traction and performance next season. If you have a subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) system, you’ve already drained it off to remove water from all filters and valve boxes. If your system wasn’t drained, you’ll want to run some detailed checks before you start running it next year. You can do all this yourself. Or you can ask the water tech experts at 21st Century Water to do it for you at a reasonable cost. We know what to look for and how to fix what needs fixing! Finally, winter is a great time to consider upgrades to your pivot. Take a close look at your yield maps from last harvest to identify any concerns. If you’re seeing streaks or areas that aren’t quite hitting your targets, it might be related to your sprinkler package. If you had any electrical or drive train issues this past season, especially on those older pivots, it might be time to think about upgrading. We can install the latest panel or remote monitoring technology on any brand of pivot. We also have many drive train and floatation options available to address those problem wheel tracks. We have some great specials happening during this time of year—and February and March are good months for us to install new sprinkler packages and handle any other pivot upgrades and maintenance. Irrigation season will be here before you know it. Count on us to help you be ready when it comes by contacting us now to get your irrigation systems up to spec this winter.

Risk Matters Farm Bill Program Recommendation
Enroll in ARC-County! (Or PLC with or without SCO, or ARC-Individual) You didn’t really expect me to make an actual recommendation did you? Farm Bill discussions typically operate at the macro level. There is a lot of information available out concerning program mechanics and enrollment deadlines and enrollment processes. This is very important information, but… Your balance sheet, cash flow and wife don’t care about the macro. They care about you! So how do YOU get ready to make an informed decision regarding this farm bill? I’m not going to tell you what program you need to enroll in, but I will offer to be a resource for your farm as you make a program election. Here is my official farm program guide. For now. It’s subject to change by the time this article hits the press. I suppose I should include a disclaimer, so I made one up and put it at the end of the article.
2015 Farm Bill/Crop Insurance Election Process 1. Update base acres and reference yields now! • This is a simple process if you have been reporting acres by CLU. If not, it will take a little bit of detective work to match up legal descriptions and CLUs. 2. Get updated yield history information from your crop insurance agent. • This is extremely important. Your farm data is the tool we will use as the basis for program evaluation. • Evaluating coverage options for federal crop insurance and hail. • Evaluating SCO coverage. • Comparing farm performance to county averages. 3. Using your farm/county as a representative sample, perform farm policy simulations using different programs, county yields, farm yields and commodity prices. • One of the biggest challenges that has spawned from this farm bill, lies in the fact that farm policy and insurance coverages are intertwined. In other words, it’s important to evaluate crop insurance at the same time you’re evaluating farm policy. • Another challenge lies in the fact that counties perform differently under these programs. For example, some counties with average or below average yields will trigger an ARC-County payment for 2014 while other counties experienced very strong yields and likely will not trigger a 2014 payment. 4. Hurry up and wait! • Things can change quickly. Once you’ve signed up for a program there is no undo button. While I wouldn’t recommend waiting for the last day to sign up, I wouldn’t recommend being first in line either. I’m encouraging customers to wait until the latter part of February to evaluate crop insurance and farm policy elections. However, in order to do this, we need to accumulate all of the necessary information now so an informed decision can be made. 5. Sign the dotted line. If you have questions, please contact me as soon as possible. I believe it’s extremely important to be proactive and to engage a team of trusted advisors as you make crop insurance and farm bill policy elections. It’s my goal to earn a spot at the table. Disclaimer: ‘I’m using the same information as everyone else and these recommendations are based on my understanding of the most current farm policy information, but check with your local FSA office. I’m not going to provide any recommendations concerning farm policy (shocking). My goal is to provide you with information that helps you make the program election that best fits your operation!’

New Location Managers Scottsbluff Location Manager Scott Helt
Torrington Location Manager Don Lemmon will serve as location manager in Torrington, a position he has held for better than a decade with Frank Implement. Don grew up in the Torrington area and worked for a local farmer prior to joining Frank Implement 18 years ago. He started as a wash boy and moved up to technician before being named location manager. “The quality of our people has been a real difference-maker here in Torrington,” Don said. “We’re looking forward to having the resources of 21st Century Equipment behind us as we work to strengthen our relationships with our valued customers.” Don and his wife Cindy have a daughter and twin boys.
Torrington Parts Manager Gregg Griffin will continue in his role as parts manager at the Torrington location. Gregg grew up in Missouri. In 1979, he joined Farmland Industries as a petroleum management trainee. His work for Farmland brought him to Torrington in 1980 to manage the local cooperative. He joined Frank Implement in 1987 as a customer service representative— and moved into parts management in 1990. He and his wife Andrea are parents of two adult daughters. Over the years, Gregg became familiar with staff from 21st Century. “I’ve gotten to know them as good people working for a good company,” he said. “They are committed to high level customer service.” “We only have one thing to sell—and that’s outstanding service,” Gregg said. “I’m excited about having the resources of a multi-store network behind us as we serve our customers. The addition of daily courier service linking all 17 stores will be a great benefit in getting parts to customers when they need them.”
Torrington Service Manager Jay Watson will continue as service manager at the Torrington store. Jay began with Frank Implement in 1995 as a service technician and has been service manager for the past seven years. Jay was raised on a family farm in Wyoming. He worked for a John Deere dealership in Wheatland, Wyo. before joining Frank Implement. He and his wife Carol are parents of four girls, including a set of 8-year-old twins. “We’ve established a great track record for great service in this market,” Jay said. “As we transition to 21st Century Equipment, we want our customers to continue to have confidence in our ability to deliver on our promises and know that we’re dedicated to helping make farming easier for them.”
20
is the new location manager for Scottsbluff. Most recently, Scott served as location manager in Bridgeport. Scott grew up on an Indiana dairy farm and graduated from Purdue University. He lived in several states as he worked for Case/IH in various capacities. Scott joined 21st Century Equipment in 2008 as location manager in Ogallala. He has served as sales manager and marketing manager for the entire company. He and his wife Karen live in Gering and are parents of four children. “Our customers expect us to be the experts—and we expect that of ourselves, as well,” Scott said. “Helping our customers succeed is our greatest challenge and our greatest opportunity. I truly enjoy helping our customers experience those ‘a-ha!’ moments that help them become more productive and more profitable.”
Scottsbluff Parts Manager Jesse Fitzke has been appointed parts manager at the Scottsbluff location. For the past four months, he served as parts manager trainee in Bridgeport. Jesse grew up on a farm near Imperial, Nebraska. A 2008 graduate of Chadron State College, he came to Scottsbluff to help open the new Menard’s store, where he was the plumbing manager. He and his wife Danielle live in Gering, Nebraska, and have two children. Jesse said he wanted to get back into agriculture and 21st Century Equipment was a great opportunity. “I’ve spent time in a big box store environment, so I really appreciate the family-oriented atmosphere at 21st Century,” he said. “It’s not how big or expensive a part is, what we do helps farmers get the job done,” Jesse said. “A $1 part can shut down an operation. We want to be responsive and have the inventory on hand to be there when our customers need us.”
Scottsbluff Service Manager Dan Henkel will continue in his role as service manager at the Scottsbluff location. He joined Frank Implement in 1990 as a service technician and has been service manager for the past 19 years. Prior to 1990, Dan worked in the auto body business and at the local sugar factory. He is a Scottsbluff native. “Over the years, we’ve developed a great reputation for customer service,” Dan said. “I fully expect that we’ll continue to deliver at a high level as we transition to 21st Century Equipment.” Dan and his wife Tammy live north of Scottsbluff and have four adult children and four grandchildren.
Scottsbluff Integrated Solutions Consultant Chris Stillahn will become the Integrated Solutions Group (ISG) Consultant at the Scottsbluff location. Chris has been at the Bridgeport location since he joined the company 2008. He will continue to serve his current customer base as well as new customers in the Scottsbluff market as well as new customers in the Scottsbluff and Torrington markets. A native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Chris grew up on a Hereford cattle ranch and showed cattle in his youth. He graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in ag business before joining 21st Century Equipment. “I’m an analytical type, so I love dealing with technology and data,” Chris said. “I enjoy helping customers use today’s innovation and information to become more efficient, more profitable and more successful.” Chris and his new bride Sarah live in Scottsbluff.
