– Dylan Bonness, Ian Duncan, Joe Jackson, and Brody Lay. Duncan was a runner-up finisher in the 100 and pole vault, and Jackson was a second-place finisher individually in the long jump and the triple jump. Also back from last year’s state meet are juniors Barry Greenwald, Chastin Hill, and Colten Peterson, and sophomore Brock Lay. Greenwald won a state title in the shot put. The Lingle-Ft. Laramie boys have other key letter winners back from last season, and they also boast a talented group of newcomers, just like the girls. “I think this team has the potential to score more points than it did a year ago,” Lashley said about his boys’ squad. “I definitely know that the group of senior boys that we have are determined to try to finish their high school career with a championship.” Could Lingle-Ft. Laramie claim both the boys’ and girls’ team championships at the state meet in late May in Casper? It’s certainly a possibility. And if the Doggers do sweep the titles – their closest competitor appears to be the Cokeville boys and girls – it wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened in school history. In fact, Lingle-Ft. Laramie has won girls and boys state titles in the same season four times (1991, 1996, 1997, 2007). Lashley, to be sure, knows that nothing is a guarantee this season, or any season, for that matter. A lot can happen over the span of a track and field season, such as injuries, illnesses, or the athletes’ progress. But at least starting out this season, Lashley can’t help but smile when he thinks about his teams’ outlook and their chances of continuing the Dogger tradition at state. “Both teams – boys and girls – are fully aware that they have a chance to win a state title,” Lashley said. “They know who we have returning and what we’re capable of. “Now, quite honestly, maybe we won’t win the state title. I don’t know. But going into the season, it’s exciting to know that we have the potential to be in the hunt – legitimately in the hunt.”
