If who we beat this summer is an indication of how competitive we will be with the top teams in the state, then we will be right there in the hunt for a state berth with the opportunity to bring home some hardware. This group of young men is very fast, athletic, and extremely competitive. Our athleticism and length should really help us play defense the way we want to, which

will support the pace we like to play. This should make us very fun to watch. This is a great group of young men who have great character, work ethic, attitudes, and belief in each other. They look forward to coming to work every day and getting better. I think what I am most excited about is the chemistry of these young men. In my 27 years of coaching, I’ve never had a greater excitement for a season. Not just because these boys will have success on the court, but because I get to spend every day with these incredible young men for fourth months.” Top competition: “I think the last few years the B-6 district has been the toughest district in Class B in the state. This year will be no different,” Trennepohl said. “We have one of the toughest schedules in Class B probably next to Scottsbluff. Our toughest opponents outside of our district

will be Saint Thomas More out of Rapid City.” Schedule Dec. 9 at Gering Dec. 10 DOUGLAS, S.D. Dec. 16 ST. THOMAS MORE, S.D. Team’s offensive outlook: “Offensively I see our team continually working hard on improving our skill sets in all areas,” Miller said. “We need to realize that not all of us need to be shooters to be effective on offense and that there are other skills that are just as important on the offensive end.” Team’s defensive outlook: “I see a group of ladies that will be working hard

to improve communication on the defensive side so that we can work in a more cohesive manner,” Miller said. “It is essential that we work as a unit and not as individuals.” Additional comments: “I look forward to being part of this year’s ladies basketball team here in Banner County and want to thank all of the school staff, parents, and community members for all their support throughout the season,” Miller said. “Our team appreciates everyone involved in making our season a successful one and can’t wait to see all of your support in the stands. have a wealth of experience coming back this season and a lot of young guys that are willing to work hard in order to meet their expectations in and out of the room,” Coach Behrens said. “Numbers should definitely be one of our strengths this year, as we are looking at close to 30 guys out. We only lost two seniors last year and bring back a vast amount of guys that saw varsity time. We have put a lot of work in these last few years. Not only myself, but the coaches expect our guys to be competitive at every weight this season. The weight room has also been a point of emphasis this last year. All in all this has also helped develop several of our guys into some great leaders for the upcoming season that has set the expectations that every wrestler leave it all on the mat every match.” Team strengths: “Our unity and work ethic,” Behrens said. “We have a good

core of guys that have really bought in to the ‘Gering wrestling style.’ With this being the start of my fourth year as head coach, we are starting to get a culture and system established at all levels.” Team goals: “As with any season, our goal is to improve on last season,” Behrens said. “We need to focus on our academics because it has haunted us the last two seasons. Season outlook: “We will have a very tough schedule this year as both conferences will be very strong with plenty of talent returning,” Coach Pedersen said. “We were hit hard with graduation last season and will be very young. We will rely heavily on our two returning starters, Alex Reader and Kate Reader, at the beginning of the season. We will also look to our three seniors, although they don’t have a lot of varsity experience, they will provide us with great leadership. We will look to develop some younger players and set goals to improve every game, hoping to peak at the right time.” Top competition: “Both the WTC and SPVA is loaded with plenty of talent this year,” Pedersen said. “Our toughest competition in the WTC will be Hemingford, Mitchell, and Gordon-Rushville. All three teams return a number of starters and experience. Our toughest competition in the SPVA will be North Platte St. Pat’s and Chase County as they both return plenty of experience and returning starters.”

of these roles. Transfer Edward Barnes will help. The other positions will be filled by underclassmen and one new senior. Seniors Abbe Draper, Taylor Berner, and Bailey Miller will need to improve on last year’s statistics if we’d like to meet our preseason goals. I expect contributions from many of our sophomores and potentially a couple of our incoming freshmen. We may struggle to score the basketball, but our defensive effort and offensive rebounding should stand out every night. We had the opportunity to play some games this summer at multiple camps, which enabled us to grow as a team over a short span. I’m excited for the opportunity to coach such a young team.”

a great start to the season,” Coach Guerue said. “Our practices are extremely competitive and fast paced. Senior leadership is at an all-time high this year. With five seniors on the roster, and four of them being three-year starters, we will lean on their experience. We play a tough schedule and feel like we can compete with everyone we play. We are going into the season with high expectations, including conference and district championships.” Team goals: “We want to play for our conferences championships, win sub-districts and districts, and make it to the state tournament,” Guerue said. “It is important that we use the game of basketball to learn life lessons that are going to help our girls become successful and productive members of society. Coach Einspahr said. “Two seniors return that will be four-year starters, Alexus Rozelle and Dawson Sharman. Our other three returning starters are juniors Audrey Juelfs, Trinity Langley, and Payge Hoffman. Our two returning senior starters, Alexus Rozelle and Dawson Sharman, are outstanding all-around players and athletes that will look to lead this team this year on and off the court as captains. Our juniors include three-year starter and point guard Audrey Juelfs, who leads our team on the court with her great ball-handling and passing. Last year she set a school record with 152 assists. We have high expectations for 6-foot junior post Trinity Langley as she will need to use her height and athleticism to help the team reach new heights this year. Payge Hoffman is our other junior starter that brings tenacity to the defense and we look for her to improve her all-around basketball skills.”

“While we lack numbers, we have quality players who want to work hard and play for each other. Although early in the season, this group has a lot of potential and we hope to get better as the season progresses to make a run into the postseason.” Team strengths: “The group we have works well together,” Mumm said. “This will be the second season in our new system, so the players will be more familiar with things. Those we have returning played a good deal of varsity time, so that experience will be beneficial for the team.” Team goals: “We want to make another run during the conference tournament,” Mumm said. “It’s always an exciting week of basketball with many close games. Our boys have set their sights on that week and hope to do well that week. Our sub-district has all MAC schools, teams we know well, so we want to be competitive during that tournament as well.”

There is a good core of returning starters and letter winners, along with some very experienced underclassmen.” Team strengths: “I expect us to have great leadership this year,” Miller said. “We have a lot of guys in the room with a lot of experience.” Team goals: “We want to qualify as many guys for state as we can, so we can set ourselves up for the best performance possible,” Miller said.

Assistant coaches: Chris Strampe, Chelsi Jackson Returning starters: (1) Logan Murphy, 5-8, junior, post Returning varsity letter winners: (6) Sydney Hill, 5-11, senior, post; Adia Sherbeyn, 5-6, junior, guard; Taylor Walsh, 5-3, junior, guard; Brooklyn Tucker, 5-5, junior, guard; Chrissy Lira, 5-6, junior, forward; Kaelyn Riley, 5-8, sophomore, forward

Top newcomers/transfers: (1) Shelby Prusia, 5-5, senior, guard Season outlook: “We have some big shoes to fill losing four starters and five seniors from last year’s team,” Coach Halley said. “We have a good core of kids back that were very successful at the JV level. Those younger girls are going to have to grow up in a hurry to take over those varsity roles. We will be a little more of a balanced team with a little speed and a little

size, but our depth is going to have to grow up in a hurry. I expect us to be in the hunt for a state tourney berth when March rolls around if we can stay healthy.” Team strengths: “Defense,” Halley listed. “We should be able to give people a variety of looks depending on the personnel in the game.” Team goals: “Continue to improve the entire season,” Halley said. “Be in the top two of our quad and earn another trip to the state tournament.”

and Tyger Rodriguez. Trey has been an excellent leader of the team and with his expereince at the state meets he will be a pivotal leader of the squad,” Coach Meyer said. “The squad will be strong in the middle weights and in the two upper weights. In the middle weights we have returning state placers in Tristan Kingsley, Trey Rodriguez, and Tyger Rodriguez. Helping to shore up the middle weights will be Matthew Garcia, Quentin Meyer, Jacob Polkowske, and Chase Dominguez. The upper weights will be solid because of senior Lane Johnson and junior Jacob Wamboldt. I look for Matthew Garcia, Chase Dominguez, and Casey Britton to have breakout years this year. These wrestlers have put in the time and energy to become exceptional wrestlers for the team.”
