Association searches for president

Headless body lives By Michelle Herbison DRYSDALE Clifton Springs Community Association is without a president as residents prepare to elect a new council. Former president and new treasurer Doug Carson said the committee realised when preparing for its annual general meeting (AGM) that the group’s constitution stipulated a three-year maximum term for executive positions. “I think it’s a good idea to have new blood in,” Mr Carson said. “I enjoy the role but being convener of the Festival of Glass too is taking up

so much time. I’m supposed to be retired but it’s not happening.” Mr Carson said the association last week voted Diane Schofield secretary and Matthew Green vice-president but members were “frightened” of nominating for the top job. He would try to convince someone to be president by the group’s November 6 meeting. The president’s role was mostly as a facilitator and spokesperson with a workload of about an hour a day - less than the secretary role, Mr Carson said. “A lot of these jobs are what you want

Former treasurer and committee member Anne Brackley would quit the association if she won her council election campaign for Cheetham Ward. Mr Carson said Ms Brackley having roles with both organisations “would not be in anyone’s interest”. Other committee members are Patrick Hughes, Neil McGuinness, Ian Cook, Lesley Bennett and Mike Denney.
