Catcher Brandon Roelike not only calls the game and catches the pitches, he is also good at defending the plate. Offensively, his hits and eye for the ball have helped him reach base.

Meire Grove Grovers Meire Grove just may have a nice postseason run. The team, led by Colton Meyer, .476, Kurt Marthaler, .410 and Alex Welle, .375, has hit well all year, putting the ball in play and scoring runs. Colton Meyer, with five home runs and 14 RBI, has emerged as the Grover people think about, but there is more than him for opponents to worry about. Tanner Klaphake has slapped out 13 hits, Jordan Klaphake has gotten on base enough times to score 11 runs and Tyler Moscho has 12 hits. Scoring runs in not a problem for the Grovers. With Matt Imdieke on the mound, the team usually holds opponents in check. As the season progressed, Josh Roelike has shown he, too, can be a batters’ bane and Jaron Klaphake has done well in relief and the occasional start. The Grovers posted enough wins to qualify for the playoffs; they can now show they belong there.

Spring Hill from page 3 is hard to score on. The team has five pitchers with ERAs under 4.00 and no member of the team has an ERA of 10 or higher. Anthony Revermann remains the workhorse with the team, logging over 40 innings and striking 40 batters. Reagen Nelson and Austin Schoenberg have held opponents in check when taking to the mound, and Jordan Welle allowed only two runs in 14 innings. The offense is also varied and deep. Eric and Jamie Terres, second baseman and shortstop, are a 1-2 punch in the battering order. Eric, with a .432 average, is open on base when Jamie Terres bring his .429 average to the

plate. Jamie has connected for five doubles, four home runs and had 13 RBI. Luke Dehmer with 12 on 11 hits,

Farming Flames After a rocky start, the Flames have become the team most expected them to be. Anchored by a score of proven veterans, such as pitcher Brad Mergen and catcher Cody Fourre, and successfully working

in the talents of a number of younger players, the Flames have shown they cannot be written off in the postseason. Farming’s offense is led by the bats of Isaac Nett, .433, Cody Fourre, 3.68 and Taylor Fourre,

On the mound, Brad Mergen has established he is again one of the tougher pitchers in the SCL, with 34 strikeouts in 31.2 innings and a 1.17 ERA. Just in time for the postseason, Ethan Navratil has merged as another that can keep teams from scoring. The Flames have a lot going for themselves, and should be fun to watch in the postseason.

The youth of the Rangers – they sometimes played eighth graders – showed at times during the year. At other times, the team played opponents very close. Often having a good game was Devon Savage. Savage hit a .500 clip for much of year. More than once, his bat delayed a seven-inning loss, or sent games into extra innings. His three home runs, three doubles and 11 RBI led the team. Russell Leyendecker was another who opponents respected as he slapped out 17 hits, and Jordan Schleper had 14 hits. The hits however, were scattered and didn’t

St. Martin manager Carl Lieser knows his team will not score a lot of runs in a game. What they do is score enough to win. In the process, the Martins have put together one of the most enjoyable teams to watch in the area. The biggest reason for their success in the SCL contest is pitching. The Richmond Royals have the elements needed to have long postseason runs. The team has batters who hit often, getting on base and sparking rallies. Chase Aleshire with a .381 average has produced 13 RBI and hit three home runs. Cole Schmitz, another who can hit the long ball, has 14 hits. Justin Schroeder and Dusty Adams are two more with 10-plus hits. That quartet can, and has, produced runs for the Royals. The leads they have helped the club obtain are protected by a trio of pitchers. DJ Schleicher is an established pitcher ans rarely walks a batter. Austin Larson is another with good control. In a recent outing, Mason Primus has done very well, striking out 20 in 23 innings. The pitchers have learned to trust their defense, and the Royals

Lake Henry Lakers Don’t ever count Lake Henry out of a game. The team earned – and properly so – a reputation for late-inning, game-winning rallies. A lot of that comes from their power. Led by Jason Kampsen’s four home runs, the team hit 11 against SCL opponents this year as they won a few nailbiters and an occasional blowout. Besides Jason Kampsen, Shane Kampsen, Matthew Quade, Nick Dingman, Josh Kampsen and Adam Miller have put the ball out of the park. Power is not the Lakers’ only game. In the last few games, Matt Quade, Dingman and Ludwig have consistently put the ball into play. The Lakers’ tradition of pitching excellence has been carried on by Sam Hopfer, Ludwig and Weston Brinkman. They may not have always prevented teams from scoring, but they have rarely given up more runs than the Lakers have scored. The postseason has been a proving grounds of a team’s abilities and, this year, Lake Henry should do well in those tests.

Shane Kampsen’s abilities as a catcher have earned him respect across the SCL. He is also a hitter who can deliver in the clutch with late-inning home runs.

The Lakers have again established themselves as a top contender in the area. The team has strong points in all areas of the game, especially hitting and pitching. There is depth on the mound with Matt Pichelmann, 32.2 innings, Cole Wellmann, 17 innings and Reese Gregory, 14.1 innings, doing the bulk of the pitching. Playing with a good defense behind them, the Lakers have allowed 36 runs in the season thus far for a 2.70 team ERA. They have not only handled Victory League foes, but done well in exhibition games. Victory League - South

Freeport Black Sox When the Black Sox have their entire lineup available, the team can play with anyone. With the hitting of Jake Braegelmann, .385, Bryan Benson, .348 and Brandon Sawyer, .353, the team cannot be overlooked. Offensively, neither can the rest of the team. All year long, the club has had someone, somewhere, in the lineup who can get on and spark a rally. Carter Sawyer, Matt Johnson and Brady Pesta also have more than 10 hits; and Tyler Hemker and Ike Sawyer have displayed a knack for getting on base with walks. The Black Sox get those runners across the plate. They scored 10-plus runs in five of their games. On the mound, the team has a deep staff with Taylor Erickson, 28 innings, and Carter Neuenschwander, 29 innings, emerging as the workhorses. Nate Mettenburg, Cody Rose and Bryce Stalboerger have also been effective in spots. Freeport’s road to a long postseason run won’t be easy, nor will they make it easy for any opponent they face.

Matt Johnson’s baserunning has enabled the Black Sox to get runners into scoring position and come home. His speed has brought about four doubles and four steals.

It has been a rough season for the Rebels. Few wins have come easy, and a few of those were nailbiters. The team did win nailbiters and in the last few weeks, showed they will play with all opponents. Nate Ehnstrom’s 12 hits include three doubles and he pushed across seven runs. Brian Skluzacek is also a player who can put the bat on the ball keeping rallies alive; and Zach Heidmann hits over .300. The pitching has been effective by Bryce Flanagan who recorded 34 strikeouts in 23 innings. Ethan Branum continues as a solid moundsman and Mac Brinc has contributed effective innings. era 4.50 4.00 2.68 3.03 3.15

The Swans struggled all season trying to put runs on the board. The team’s top hitters, Travis Barthel and Tren Dinius, had 10 hits each. Dinius and Jackson Thieschafer both homered. A number of players took to the mound as the Swans looked for a steady pitcher. Tyler Evans led the team with 16 innings as they were involved in six seven-inning games. The Titans have the pieces to cap the year with a successful postseason run. With four proven .400 hitters, Andrew Primus, Andrew Rousslange, Dylan Haskamp and Jake Haskamp, in the lineup, Sauk Centre usually has a scoring threat when they bat. In addition, Derek Holm and Jared Gesell are hitting over .300 and Alex Kowski, who has seen limited action, has produced two home runs and a plus .600 average. The team hits with consistency at .353, and with power, with 31 extra-base hits. Nor are they afraid to take extra bases, and led by Andrew Rousslange’s seven thefts, the team has 22 steals. The movement on the bases has produced runs. The other side of their successful equation is not allowing many

Good Luck Titans!

With a few breaks, the Devils could have a record above the .500 mark. The team lost four games by two runs, one of them in extra innings. Led by the hitting of Kolten and Kamden Happke, St. Mathias usually found a way to get on base, but they didn’t always get those runners home. Conner Knettel emerged as a dependable pitcher, throwing over 42 innings, and Burrell Flanagan and Alex Guggiesberg provided additional quality outings. The Devils know they can play better than their record, and that could translate into postseason wins.
