SAUK RAPIDS – Water usage in the city of Sauk Rapids is re ecting the summer’s lingering drought. Throughout July, more than 69 million gallons of water were pumped in the city. Water usage was up by more than 15 million gallons from July 2020, when more than 53 million gallons were pumped, according to Craig Nelson, director of public utilities. Water usage averaged about 2.2 million gallons per day in July compared to an average of 1.7 million gallons per day in July 2020. June water usage increased by more than 4 million gallons from the previous year. Total usage for the month was
about 65.8 million gallons compared to about 61.7 million gallons in June 2020. City water users, residents in particular, typically use more water in the summer months than in winter. In both 2021 and 2020, January usage averaged 28 million gallons, or between 922,677 and 931,806 gallons per day. The city has 3,719 residential water meters and 348 commercial water meters. The July water usage of 69,142,000 gallons, divided by the city’s 4,067 water meters, resulted in an average of 17,000 gallons per resident and commercial meter. The January water usage of 28,855,000, divided by the city’s 4,067 water meters, resulted in an average of 7,094 gallons per resident and commercial meter.

SAUK RAPIDS – It has been 43 years since members of Sauk Rapids Senior Girl Scout Troop 5 boarded a plane to Mexico. But , the women talked and laughed Aug. 13 as if their adventures abroad happened yesterday. “It’s a testament to who we were back then,” said Cindy (Burski) McCullough while visiting with fellow troop members. “It feels like we’re just picking up where we left off. It’s so fun to remember.” McCullough was one of 12 former Troop 5 members who gathered for a reunion at Molitor’s Quarry in Sauk Rapids
