Hometown: Albany What is your role at Star Publications: Advertising sales and co-owner Tell us about your family. My wife, Liz, and I live outside of Albany with three children: Will, 10, Ben, 6, and Ellie, 3, and our lab, Griffin. We love to travel, take on home renovation projects, and spend time with family and friends. What are your hobbies? I love to garden, fish, hunt, watch football, play guitar and drums, sing, and enjoy sales and investment opportunities. What is your favorite restaurant and what do you order? One of my favorite restaurants I learned to love are those that serve fresh sushi. Steak houses are at the top of the list as well. We both like trying new restaurants.
“It’s a good thing to do because it goes to a good cause, raising money for the church, and then also because we have a very interesting and fun group of people to quilt with and it’s fun to socialize,” Vouk said.

Besides being a way to generate funds for the parish, the ladies enjoy the time quilting gives them to appreciate each other’s company.

An elk quilt is the featured raffle ticket quilt for this year’s St. Stephen parish festival. The top of the quilt was made by Carole Mehr and quilted by the other members in the St. Stephen quilting group.

Sauk Rapids Liquor:
Honor, a program designed to raise money for veteran or military programs. Sauk Rapids Liquor and C&L Distributing Inc., of Sauk Rapids, team up to donate to an organization that provides meals for struggling veterans, Boulton said. “In the past we donated to the VA (St. Cloud VA Health Care System), sent a care package to a local kid stationed in Afghanistan, a birthday gift for a stationed mom in Kuwait and last year money that ourselves and other local municipal liquor stores raised gave just over $300 to St. Cloud StandDown,” Boulton said. Boulton said being a municipal-owned liquor store means a portion of the store’s profits – roughly $200,000 annually – are returned to the city’s general fund, offsetting the tax levy and supporting city expenditures in departments such as fire and public works. Currently, store sales have been trending flat to upward, leading more money to give back to the city, Boulton said. “It’s important we show there’s a purpose besides selling alcohol and being profit for the city,” Boulton said. “We can do a few things on the side and give money to various organizations.

MMBA is always looking for different things to help promote and show there are benefits to having a municipal liquor store.
Tom Boulton and his children, Jacob and Maggie, deliver a $200 donation to the Emily Prodinsky, TriCounty Humane Society representative, at the facility in St. Cloud. Boulton, the manager of Sauk Rapids Liquor, received the funds through a promotion hosted by the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association.
Sauk Rapids Liquor recently collected a sum of money for two organizations. “As part of being in the municipal liquor store organization, we do multiple fundraisers throughout the year,” said Tom Boulton, manager of Sauk Rapids Liquor. “In April, we did a pet drive. We have done this for eight years, and last year, we were one of the top go-getters for it.” The city-owned liquor store was chosen from a drawing, and the store was awarded $200 dollars to give to an organization. Last year, they chose to donate to the Tri-County Humane Society. This year, the same thing happened, and the St. Cloudbased animal shelter will benefit for a second time. The liquor store partners with Viking Beverages, of St. Cloud, to support the animals in need, and in addition to the awarded money, the store gathers donations from its customers throughout the year. “At each till there is a donation box for the humane society,” Boulton said. “They have said we are one of the top places they get donations from. We are grateful to the customers who have been contributing to it.” Many of the store’s fundraisers are in conjunction with the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association, which helps put promotions together. In addition to the pet drive, the Sauk Rapids location has participated in Folds of Advertorial Benefiting the community in more than one way

Sandie Lahr, third year head coach
Boys, girls to thisfullfieldteamsseason
Cross-country program growth continues
There are certainly larger cross-country programs in the area. But for Sauk Rapids-Rice coach Sandie Lahr, the progress she has seen in numbers in the past two years is a positive sign. The Storm have 23 boys and girls out for cross-country. While that may not seem like a lot, they had two girls on the team two years ago. Last year, SRR was able to eld a varsity team of ve girls, and this year’s group has seven runners. The boys have 16 athletes, giving the Storm depth they have not enjoyed in several years. That added depth, Lahr hopes, leads to more competitive teams though SRR is still numbersnated.youth-domi-“Ourboysaresolid with a lot of talent,” said Lahr, in her third year of leading the program. “I would like to see our teams be even more competitive this year than last year. We are still a very young team with only two seniors and the bulk of our team seventh through ninth-graders. We were in a new section last year and able to change our schedule to be in more competitive and larger meets.”The Storm are scheduled to open the 2022 season at the Apollo Early Bird Invitational Saturday, Aug. 27, on the grounds of the St. Cloud VA Medical
Hixson has watched himself grow from a freshman.“My role starting as a freshman was just to come in and run,” Hixson said. “Now as a senior, I like to lead by example. I’m hoping to continue on what we did last year to help build the program. I like to show the younger guys what it takes and being there if they need help. I love every bit ofMartincompeting.”completes the trifecta of runners. He had a strong season for the SRR track and eld team and hopes that success continues this fall. “It’s a hard sport,” Martin said. “You just have to work hard to be stronger than the runner next to you. I enjoy showing the younger runners how important it is to work hard to accomplish good things.”Also expected to contribute this season are Mason Foss, Kade Lovell, Collin Wiebe, Grant Pallansch, Avery Nathe and Gavin“WithWeber.that experience, our veteran runners know what to expect and know what the competition will be like,” Lahr said. The Storm girls team returns letter-winners Amelia Reker and Faith Bogle. Lahr said she expects newcomer McKenzie Wagman-Kelly as one to watch this season. Lahr said they use the rst two weeks of practice to work on creating a family culture for the team along with setting goals and “Iteam-bonding.alsowouldlike to see the continued progress of our runners,” Lahr said. “Each athlete sets a season goal and weekly meet goals. We help guide our athletes to commit to a goal, work toward that goal learning about themselves in the process, gain con dence in overcoming obstacles and achieve a level of success. This is really what we work for during our season.”
