Caucus night is Feb. 1 Constituents invited to political process BY NATASHA BARBER STAFF WRITER SAUK RAPIDS – Political precincts will gather in less than one week to set in motion the 2022 election year. Caucuses for the Republican and Democratic parties meet Tuesday, Feb. 1, and constituents will gather to support candidates, select delegates, set party platforms and bring forth issues and bills they would like to see advance in legislation. Participants must be eligible to vote and live the precinct. They also must generally agree with the principles of the political party hosting the caucus, according the Minnesota Secretary of State website. People can nd their precinct and caucus location at caucus nder.sos. state.mn.

Each year, high schools across the state choose a male and female from their junior classes to be entrants into a statewide competition. It was a feeling of shock. I’ve been giving all my efforts to my classes and activities, but I never expected to be recognized for it, especially not for an award this big. It’s something I’ve never felt before.

I was very excited, happy and flattered to win this award. Because the Excel Award winner needs to be involved and excel in three areas, I am quite honored knowing my hard work has allowed me to receive this award.

ST. CLOUD – About 65 people gathered at Coyote Moon Grille Jan. 21 to celebrate the Sauk Rapids Fire Department and its history, re ghters and their families. Traditionally an annual banquet, the event was the rst since the coronavirus pandemic showed its face in Benton County as the January 2021 banquet was postponed. Donning their Class A uniforms, the re ghters were joined by former department personnel and community members for a plated dinner, speakers and awards presentation.
