First round of dosing to start by year’s end BY JAKOB KOUNKEL STAFF WRITER

FOLEY – About nine months after the first case of COVID-19 hit Minnesota, Gov. Tim Walz announced there is light at the end of the tunnel. Within the next two weeks, shipments of coronavirus vaccines could reach some of Minnesota’s healthcare providers, Walz said at a press briefing Dec. 8. Though unconfirmed, 183,400 total doses are scheduled to be in Minnesota before the end of the month, with the state expecting first doses administered before year end. Walz said it is likely the schedule changes, noting the federal government determines delivery dates, not his office. “We’re here today on a day that didn’t even seem possible when we started,” Walz said. “The idea that there would be a vaccine available for widespread distribution that would help us start to break the back of this novel coronavirus and start to move us back to normalcy, that’s where we are today.”

Trees from Toots brings joy to Good Shepherd Family donates decor in honor of Louise Erickson, who survived the coronavirus at 97 BY ELLARRY PRENTICE STAFF WRITER

SAUK RAPIDS – At 97, Louise Erickson beat the odds. The Sauk Rapids resident survived the coronavirus disease, COVID-19, surprising medical professionals and her family. Isolated in her room at the Good Shepherd Community in Sauk Rapids, Erickson had the comfort of a little tree. As the lights twinkled, her spirits began to lift, and the hope of Christmas shone brightly.

But a commissioner’s day-to-day consists of reading through informational packets, a glut of monthly meetings, fielding calls from sometimes disgruntled residents and bringing their best ideas to the table. Benton County Commissioners Spencer Buerkle, Jake Bauerly and Warren Peschl have embodied what it takes to be a commissioner.
