We were faced with having to make hard decisions in order to protect our residents, and WE DID. Due to the abundance of caution, we asked you to wear a mask, stay home, we closed businesses and schools because the safety of our residents and our children was of the utmost importance. We

Texas Secretary of State John Scott is reminding all eligible Texas voters who have not already done so to register to vote by Thursday, April 7 to vote in the May 7 statewide Constitutional Amendment election, as well as local elections for municipalities, school districts and other local entities holding elections. While not every local entity holds elections on May 7, every Texas county will be holding elections on two proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution approved by the 87th Texas Legislature during the second and third special sessions of 2021. “In the upcoming May 7 election, every Texas voter will

have the opportunity to vote on two proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution concerning property taxes, and many Texas voters will also be voting on mayoral, city council, and school board candidates as well as local propositions,” Secretary Scott said. “I encourage every eligible Texas voter to not only get registered by April 7th, but to educate yourself on the candidates and measures that will appear on your ballot. This is an important opportunity to determine the direction of your community and our state, so make sure to register and prepare to cast your ballot in the upcoming election!” Proposed amendments to

the Texas Constitution must be approved by at least two-thirds of the members of both the Texas Senate and the Texas House of Representatives. Ballot language is written by the legislature, not the Texas Secretary of State. Governor Greg Abbott has issued a proclamation recognizing April 2022 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Texas. This month is a time for Texans to come together to build awareness around the issue of sexual assault and to recognize the courage of survivors throughout our nation and across the Lone Star State. Texans are encouraged to honor survivors as the State of Texas continues its mission to encourage healing and empowerment for survivors of sexual violence. Texans can also use the hashtag #TXSexualAssaultAwareness Month to share their support on social media throughout the month of April. “To honor the courage of survivors across our state and

stand with them in solidarity, we must continue advocating for survivors and raising awareness of sexual assault, supporting the individuals and organizations who work to prevent these crimes,” reads the proclamation. “By working together, Texans can help end the terrible pain inflicted by sexual assault and help survivors and their loved ones find healing.” The Governor’s Sexual Assault Survivors’ Task Force (SASTF) was established in 2019 to ensure a survivor-centered, traumainformed, collaborative and coordinated response to sexual violence experienced by adults and children across the state. The SASTF brings together various professionals and survivors

who are singularly focused on delivering critical system improvements on behalf of Texas’ sexual assault survivors. To view the Governor’s proclamation visit: https://gov. texas.gov/uploads/files/press/ Sexual_Assault_Awareness_ Month_2022_Proclamation.pdf
