Obituary
Flor Estela “Minnie” Lopez August 31, 1969 - December 4, 2021
Flor Estela “Minnie” Lopez, of La Victoria, TX passed away on December 4th 2021 in Austin, TX at the age of 52. She was born in Hoopeston, IL on August 31, 1969 to Nabor Villarreal and Flor Estela Zarate. She has two living siblings, Evangelina and Nabor Villarreal, Jr. She attended Rio Grande City High School and attended TSTC and South Texas College earning a degree in Early Childhood Education. At the time of her death she was a devoted Preschool Teacher in Bee Cave, TX and spent endless hours and personal resources off the clock preparing lessons, art, and activities for her students. Around the holidays, Minnie’s gifts to her students were always more than the bare minimum which can be attributed to her loving and generous heart. In her free time, Flor loved crafting, mainly sewing, and hand sewed her grandson’s Baptism gown in 2019. In addition to sewing, she loved spending time with family, and baking around the holidays. Her favorite desserts were Sand Tarts, Pan de Polvo (Mexican Wedding cookies), and Chocolate Flan Cake. In 2021 - she hand made her grandson’s 3rd birthday pinata, a number 3 with a race track and characters from the Disney movie, Cars. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandson Finn. She was born and raised a Roman Catholic and died receiving all her sacraments. Minnie loved Disney movies and knew the classics by heart. She was not a big fan of the live action (modern people actor) remakes. She knew all the words and sang all the songs as well. In her last days while at the hospital, she was dancing to “Under the Sea” as she watched The Little Mermaid with her daughters Patti and Clare. She was very down to earth and low maintenance. She always prefered a fresh face to a fully made up one and had come to love her graying hair. A few months prior to her death, she gave herself a haircut for the very first time after watching
a YouTube video. It was the last haircut she had before her passing. She had the biggest heart and was so appreciative of the smallest kind gestures from family, friends, and coworkers alike. She was extremely generous and Minnie enjoyed spoiling her family - giving Easter baskets to her children well into adulthood and especially spoiling her grandson, Finn with endless love, toys, and sweets. It goes without saying no expense was spared when it came to her “Finnito Pinguinito” as she so lovingly called him. Minnie had planned train rides, children’s marriages, tea parties, and endless visits with friends and family. Minnie hated bills, being sick, commercials, traffic, and taxes. She is survived by her family in Central and South Texas spouse, Luis Carlos; daughter Patricia Isabel and husband Ryan Buckley; daughter Clarissa Marie, son Luis Carlos Lopez, Jr; grandson Finn Buckley, father Nabor Villarreal, brother Nabor Villarreal, Jr., sister Evangelina Villarreal, Villarreal nephews and spouses Lopez / Garcia, nieces and nephews and spouses Villarreal / Zarate cousins Lopez / Sanchez cousins, pet Chihuahua Onyx, endless list of lifelong friends and acquaintances. She is preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Maria Guadalupe Lopez 10/25/2020; mother, Flor Estela Zarate Villarreal 5/24/2018; her father-in-law, Eduardo Rey Lopez 7/6/2006; and miscarried son in early 1993. Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 9th 2021 from 2 to 6PM at Beck Funeral Home in Cedar Park. A rosary will be prayed on the same day at 6PM led by Deacon Dave Montoya. Her funeral mass will be on Friday, December 10th at 11AM at St. Mary Our Lady of the Lake in Lago Vista officiated by Reverend Ed Koharchik. She will be interred at Bagdad Cemetery in Leander following the funeral mass. Pallbearers are her spouse, Luis Carlos Lopez, her son Luis Carlos Lopez, Jr, her son-in-law, Ryan Buckley, her brother Nabor Villarreal, her nephew, Roberto Garcia, and close family friend, Hunter Granier. On behalf of the LopezBuckley and Villarreal families, we want to say thank you to whoever loved, helped and prayed for Minnie throughout her life and death. “When I die, you better visit my grave. If you don’t, I will scratch the bottoms of your feet at night.” - Minnie (while joking with her family when discussing death)

NOVENA “Miraculous Prayer” Dear Sacred Heart of Jesus, in the past I have asked for favors. This time I ask you this very special one (mention favor). Take it, Dear Jesus, and place it within your own heart, where your Father sees it. Then, in your merciful eyes it will become your favor, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for three days, promise publication and favor will be granted. Never known to fail.

SOLIS

CDC amplía las recomendaciones de refuerzo Roma ISD schools rank well in new U.S.
U.S. News & World Report, which is known for its rating of colleges and high schools, unveiled this fall a new rating system for elementary and middle schools across the country. Unlike their college and high school ratings, elementary and middle schools are ranked within the state. The new database allows
readers to search by state for institutions that teach elementary or middle school students. School pages have data like enrollment by grade, student-teacher ratio and percentage of full-time
teachers who are certified. Within the rating, all six Roma ISD elementary schools performed very well. Out of 5,150 elementary schools in the state, Emma Vera Elementary School ranks #49, F. J. Scott Elementary School ranks #67, R. T. Barrera Elementary School ranks #135, Delia G. Garcia Elementary School ranks #248, R. & C. Saenz Elementary ranks #341, and Veterans Memorial Elementary ranks #1267. This means that Emma Vera Elementary School and F. J. Scott Elementary School both rank in the top 1 percent of Texas elementary schools; R. T. Barrera Elementary ranks in the top 3 percent of Texas

Amen.

United Way of South Texas Grant Secures Blankets for 200 Roma ISD Students in Need Disaster Action Team
The United Way of South Texas granted Roma ISD $2000.00 to fund a unique winter project to help students in the community. Roma ISD’s Counseling Department determined that some students may not have heat in their homes to combat cold temperatures, and given the severe cold snap of 2021 with more unpredictable weather forecasted, the team decided students needed blankets. The district was able to purchase 202 blankets that have been distributed to students identified by counselors
as being in severe need across all Roma ISD schools. “ W e would like to thank United Way for their continued generosity in our community,” said Roma ISD Superintendent Carlos Guzman. “Although we usually have blazing temperatures throughout the year, heat insecurity during these cold
