Rio Grande City Grulla ISD Gift of Literacy Drive

Christmas spirit, lots of cheer, and the warm roars of children’s laughter welcomed guests to The Gift of Literacy drive. Mrs. Veronica Garcia, a Migrant Education Administrator, alongside Mrs. Virginia Gonzalez, State; Federal Programs Executive Director, held The Gift of Literacy celebration for A Bright Beginning students.

Migrant students, ages 3 and 4,

were treated to Christmas stockings, books, and toys delivered by Santa Claus, Ariana Salinas. In addition, Mrs. Sonya Salinas, A Bright Beginning teacher, visited 2-yearold migrant students to begin early identification and recruitment and provided them with lots of Christmas merriment and jolly gifts.

Bright Beginning and migrant staff made this heartfelt

undertaking possible.

NOTICE OF APPLICATION OF EL SAUZ WATER SUPPLY CORPORATION TO AMEND ITS CERTIFICATE OF CONVENIENCE AND NECESSITY TO PROVIDE WATER UTILITY SERVICE IN STARR COUNTY, TEXAS

El Sauz Water Supply Corporation has filed an application with the Public Utility Commission of Texas to amend its water Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) No. 11424 for the provision of retail water utility service in Starr County, Texas.

The requested area overlaps the district boundaries of Rio Grande Regional Water Authority If this district does not request a public hearing, the Commission shall determine that the district is consenting to the El Sauz Water Supply Corporation’s request to provide retail water utility service in the requested area.

The requested area includes 11 customer connections, is located approximately 12 mile(s) north of downtown Rio Grande Citv, Texas, and is generally bounded on the north by 1.2 mile north of La Morita Road; on the east by 0.26 mile east of La Morita Road; on the south by 0.3 mile south of La Morita Road; and on the west by the intersection of Farm to Market Road 649 and La Morita Road

The requested area includes approximately 1,599 acres, comprised of uncertificated area. A copy of the maps showing the requested area are available at: 545 N. FM 649, Roma TX 785996284

Persons who wish to intervene in the proceeding or comment upon action sought should contact the Public Utility Commission, P.O. Box 13326, Austin, Texas 78711-3326, or call the Public Utility Commission at (512) 936-7120 or (888) 782-8477. Hearing- and speech-impaired individuals with text telephones (TTY) may contact the commission at (512) 936-7136. The deadline for intervention in the proceeding is (30 days from the mailing or publication of notice, whichever occurs later, unless otherwise provided by the presiding officer). You must send a letter requesting intervention to the commission which is received by that date. The letter must include the person’s name, address, email address and fax number if applicable.

If a valid public hearing is requested, the Commission will forward the application to the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH) for a hearing. If no settlement is reached and an evidentiary hearing is held, SOAH will submit a recommendation to the Commission for a fi nal decision. An evidentiary hearing is a legal proceeding similar to a civil trial in state district court.

A landowner with a tract of land at least 25 acres or more, that is partially or wholly located within the requested area, may file a written request with the Commission to be excluded from the requested area (“opt out”) within (30) days from the date that notice was provided by the Utility. All opt out requests must include a large-scale map, a metes and bounds description of the landowner’s tract of land, landowner’s name, address, email address and fax number, if applicable.

Persons who wish to request this option should file the required documents with the: Public Utility Commission of Texas Central Records 1701 N. Congress, P. O. Box 13326 Austin, TX 78711-3326

In addition, the landowner must also send a copy of the opt out request to the Utility. Staff may request additional information regarding your request.

from 6PM to 8PM Basilio Villarreal Park, Rio Grande City This is a curbside, drive-thru event, with FREE gifts for children 12 and under!

Grulla High School and SCAN’s CCP-COV program hosted a Winter Arts & Crafts activity for GHS parents/guardians. Participants were able to create a Snowman craft to take home and display on their doors. This activity was provided to not only foster positive relationships between the school and the community but to also provide opportunities for learning and stress reduction. By engaging in arts and crafts activities, participants hone their fine motor skills and find focus, getting their minds off cares and concerns. A special thank you to Mrs. Maria Trevino, Amores Deco Supply, for leading the activity. Texas ACE Grant celebrates family traditions with Christmas Mexican loteria at all ACE grant schools parental night

The dates the celebrations were held were on December 8th, 9th, 12th & 13th.

The school cafeterias were transformed into a festive platform with singing, dancing, giving thanks and the old bonding with their young as they heard the “corre y se va”! Each grant school had approximately 12-15 prizes each that were generously

The parents and children enjoyed the ACE conjunto, Mariachi de Plata, the choirs and the Angelical voice of Mr. Rolando Barrera accompanying a future star. The centuries old game made popular by Clemente Jacques between 1945-1950 and a family tradition once again reminded us of a place where hope, love and future

endeavors become a reality which we attribute to our school.

Roma ISD Orchestra Program Hosts Christmas Concert for Elementary Schools

1 Full-Time Position in Rio Grande City (40 hrs. per week)

Family Support Specialist for the FAYS Family and Youth Success Program

The FAYS program addresses family conflict and everyday struggles while promoting strong families and youth resilience.

FAYS offers one-on-one coaching or counseling for youth and parents needing help. The FAYS programs also operate a 24-hour hotline for families having urgent needs.

The FAYS program helps youth 6-17 years of age and their caregiver learn to overcome challenges and develop and succeed in healthy ways.

Primary responsibilities include:

1.Recruit, screen, and assess youth to determine their needs and eligibility

2.Provide face to face crisis intervention services. (Be on call 24 hours a day including weekends for phone crisis intervention on a rotating schedule)

3.Provide individual and family skill building sessions.

4.Provide parenting education and youth coping skills groups.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in the Behavioral Science

• Must be bilingual (English/ Spanish)

Roma ISD’s Orchestra Program put on a special Christmas Concert for this district’s 5th grade elementary school students! They spread the joy of Christmas through music, and the elementary students were very excited for the special concert just for them!!
