Congratulations to the Grulla Band Programs in Earning State Advancements and Making School History!!! For the first time in Grulla program history the Grulla Middle School, Grulla High School Non-Varsity, and the Grulla High School Varsity Concert Bands will be representing our district, community, and the Rio Grande Valley in several state competitions. Our very own Grulla Middle School Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Gerardo Guerra, competed in the “ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series”. Through several rigorous elimination rounds, the GMS Symphonic Band advanced two musical selections to the State level. Furthermore, our Grulla High School Non-Varsity Band, under the direction of Mr. Nazario Trevino, advanced one musical selection to the “ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series” at the state level. Finally, our Grulla High School Varsity Band, under the direction of Mr. Oscar Gonzalez, has advanced to State in the Texas Music Educators Association Honor Band competition. In this
(956) 487-0012 1114 E. Hwy. 83, RGC TX
challenging competition, only 16 bands in class 4A are selected to advance to state. It is an honor to represent the community and district at this prestigious competition. All 3 bands will have the opportunity to represent Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District at the Texas Bandmasters Association convention, in conjunction with the Association of Texas Small School Bands, in San Antonio on July 26, 2018 for their final ranking amongst “The Best Bands in the State of Texas”. We are fortunate to work with hard-working and dedicated students and are proud of all their accomplishments they have earned this year. The Grulla Band Fine Arts Department team consist of Leydiana Corona, Emmanuel Garcia, Hector Hernandez, Roberto Diaz, Monique Olivarez, Melida Hinojosa, custodian, Marissa Trevino, fine arts clerk, and our fine arts directors Rogerio Olivarez and Alejandro Rodriguez.
A special Thanks goes to Mr. Rene Pena, Grulla Middle School Principal, and his staff and Mr. Julio Eguia, Grulla High School Principal, and his staff for their continued support in all our musical endeavors and accomplishments. We would also like to thank the rest of our team starting with our superintendent, Mr. Alfredo Garcia and all of his central administration, RGCCISD School Board, our Cafeteria Personnel, our Police Department, our Maintenance Department, Grulla High School teachers, and most of all the Parents of our talented students. Great things do not happen out of luck; they happen when you have the support of everyone who impacts the students in a positive way.

Second Anniversary Mass In Loving Memory of
Elida V. Menchaca November 19, 1948 † July 26, 2016
It has been two year since you went home to be with our Lord. It broke my heart to lose you. But you didn’t go alone, for part of me went with you the day God called you home. I often sit and think of you and think of how you died, to think I couldn’t say good-bye before you closed your eyes. I suffer so much sorrow, and its never ending grief, which I must bear, until I breathe my last farewell and finally meet you there.
Mass will be celebrated on Sunday July 29, 2018 at 12:00PM at Sacred Heart Church in Escobares, Tx. We Love You Ramon, Daughter Leonor and Grandchildren Gabriel and Jolie

the largest city park in the world is Bosque de la Primavera in Guadalajara, Mexico. At 74,132 acres, Bosque de la Primavera is more than 14,000 acres larger than the world’s second largest city park, Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. Bosque de la Primavera features the Rio Caliente, a geothermal river, and is home to a massive nature reserve inhabited by wild animals. The largest city park in the United States and fifth largest such park in the world is the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Scottsdale, Arizona. The McDowell Sonoran Preserve includes 180 miles of hiking trails within its 27,800 acres. And while it might be one of the most recognizable city parks in the world, New York City’s Central Park is not counted among the world’s 20 largest city parks, despite estimates that it draws more than 40 million visitors each year. However, it is one of the most visited places in the United States.
Amen

Some insect look-alikes aren’t actually much alike Occasionally, two species may, at first glance, look very similar when in reality they’re very different. Such is the case with walking sticks and praying mantises. Let’s take a closer look. Their similarities sometimes even contribute to confusion over their identities. Both are long, thin insects. Walking sticks are about 4 inches long while the mantises are about 3 inches. (An aside: the longest insect in the world, 22 inches, is a walking stick species.) Both vary in color from green to brown. Being insects, both have 6 legs, compound eyes and a pair of antennae. The legs and antennae are long and thin. While it’s not something

how it often holds the front legs.) (2) A big difference is wings. The walking stick has none while on the praying mantis you should be able to see them folded on its back even when it’s not in flight. The really, really big difference you probably won’t realize unless you see them eating. Walking sticks are herbivores and eat leaves. Praying mantises are carnivores and eat other insects. How about that for different! We can’t let appearances fool us. It’s a wonder-filled world out there; get out and take a stroll through the brush.

you will see, both have simple metamorphosis, that is, their life cycle is egg, nymph and adult. They have no larva and pupa stages. To avoid predators, both are camouflaged; they resemble twigs. So much for their similarities, how do they differ? There are two things to look for. (1) On the walking stick the front pair of legs is like its other legs, thin and just used for walking. The front pair of legs on the praying mantis are strong and barbed to be used for grasping prey. (The “praying” in the name is from
