Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) released the following statement regarding the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Declaration for the State of Texas. Due to the impact of Hurricane Hanna along the Gulf Coast, FEMA is authorized to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures to save lives and to protect property and public health and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in the designated areas. Specifically, FEMA is authorized to provide emergency protective measures (Category B), limited to direct Federal assistance

and reimbursement for mass care including evacuation and shelter support at 75 percent federal funding. “The COVID-19 pandemic has overwhelmed South Texas communities and local governments. First responders and health care professionals are working tirelessly to provide the necessary resources and services to help combat this virus. Now, South Texas communities must also face the aftermath of destruction caused by Hurricane Hanna.” “Thankfully, 32 counties including Bexar, Hidalgo, La Salle, McMullen, Starr, Webb, and Zapata - are covered under FEMA’s Emergency Declaration for the

State of Texas. This assistance will help these areas recover from property damage and address public health and safety concerns. I will continue to work with FEMA and the State of Texas to ensure our communities receive the necessary resources and support.” This assistance is for the counties of Aransas, Bee, Bexar, Brazoria, Brooks, Calhoun, Cameron, Dimmit, Duval, Fort Bend, Galveston, Goliad, Harris, Hidalgo, Jackson, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, La Salle, Live Oak, Matagorda, McMullen, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Starr, Victoria, Webb, Wharton, Willacy, and Zapata.

When you are in public: Wear a face mask, wash your hands, do not touch your face and stay six feet away. Stay home if possible. Cuando estén en público: Usen una máscara facial, lávese las manos, no se toque la cara y manténgase a seis pies de distancia. Quédense en casa si es posible.
