Local officials and community leaders visited the Operation Border Health Preparedness Operation site at Veterans Middle School in Rio Grande City. The operation brings much needed free health services to our communities. More than 100 members of our community have received free medical health services every day.

A graduate of Roma High School in 2003, Filiberto answered the call to duty in 2004 from the McAllen recruiting station until he retired in 2024.

Joined by Mayor Jaime Escobar Jr., the City Council, and our city employees, we gather to recognize Filiberto’s unwavering service to our country. His legacy is a testament to courage and sel essness, inspiring us all. ank you, Filiberto Treviño, for your service and sacri ce. Your dedication has made a lasting impact on our community and beyond.

Medina Electric Cooperative Receives Small Community Library Advocate of the Year Award

The Small Community Library Round Table, a unit of the Texas Library Association (TLA) comprised of library directors and librarians from small community libraries across the state, presented their Library Advocate of the Year Award to Medina Electric Cooperative at the TLA Annual Conference in April.

Medina Electric Cooperative has long supported small rural libraries through its Community Empowerment Program (CEP).

Grants are awarded for capital projects that support community and economic development in any of the 17 counties served by Medina EC, which include Atascosa, Brooks, Dimmit, Duval, Edwards, Frio, Jim Hogg, Kinney, LaSalle, McMullen, Medina, Real, Starr, Uvalde, Webb, Zapata and Zavala.

“We are excited to be awarded the Texas Library Association’s Small Community Library Round Table’s Library Advocate Award.

Supporting our rural libraries across the 17 counties we serve is incredibly important to us, and we deeply appreciate the hard work and resources they provide to enrich our communities.” CEO Trey Grebe.

The award honors outstanding advocates who go above and

beyond to ensure that small community libraries throughout Texas have the best library services available. It celebrates an or organization who, through advocacy, fundraising, or library volunteerism, has made a difference to the library in their community.
