Roma ISD Names New Elementary Kasey Escamilla Places 7th in School for 1st Roma High Valedictorian State Poetry UIL Competition Roma ISD’s School Board made it official last month, voting to name Roma ISD’s newest elementary school after the first valedictorian from Roma High School from 1949, Delia Gonzalez Garcia. Perez, who presented the initial idea to name the school in Mrs. Garcia’s honor. “Given that she is a product of our own La Rosita, which gave our district its first valedictorian, it is fitting that we select her as the name sake and role model for
generations of Gladiators to come. Her story is truly inspiring and she is very deserving of this honor as a woman who has shown our Roma ISD Gladiators how to break barriers in many areas of life.” Mrs. Garcia came back to Roma ISD to celebrate the 70th graduating class from Roma High School this spring, and was delighted to be at home in the Gladiator Nation. “It was a true honor to host Mrs. Garcia at graduation, and hearing more about her life story and watching her inspire our students, there can be no doubt we made
