Roma ISD Names New Elementary Kasey Escamilla Places 7th in School for 1st Roma High Valedictorian State Poetry UIL Competition Roma ISD’s School Board made it official last month, voting to name Roma ISD’s newest elementary school after the first valedictorian from Roma High School from 1949, Delia Gonzalez Garcia. Mrs. Garcia, who was a resident of La Rosita at the time, later went on to study at Texas A&I University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry in 1955. Following her college graduation, Mrs. Garcia devoted her life to educating others, ending her career as an assistant superintendent. “Mrs. Garcia’s life story began at a time when world conditions were difficult, especially for women,” expressed Roma ISD Board Member Arturo S. Perez, who presented the initial idea to name the school in Mrs. Garcia’s honor. “Given that she is a product of our own La Rosita, which gave our district its first valedictorian, it is fitting that we select her as the name sake and role model for
generations of Gladiators to come. Her story is truly inspiring and she is very deserving of this honor as a woman who has shown our Roma ISD Gladiators how to break barriers in many areas of life.” Mrs. Garcia came back to Roma ISD to celebrate the 70th graduating class from Roma High School this spring, and was delighted to be at home in the Gladiator Nation. “It was a true honor to host Mrs. Garcia at graduation, and hearing more about her life story and watching her inspire our students, there can be no doubt we made

God Took Him To His Loving Home God saw him getting tired a cure was not to be. He wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.’ He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend. He faced his pain with courage until the very end. He tried so hard to stay with us but his fight was not in vain, God took him to His loving home and freed him from the pain.

Amen. (S.G.)

He Only Takes The Best
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put his arms around you and whispered, ‘Come with Me.’ With tearful eyes we watched you slowly fade away, although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us... He only takes the best.
We wish to express our sincere appreciation to our many relatives and friends for their presence, lowers, cards, masses, food, and comforting words during our deepest grief for the loss of our beloved one. A Special thanks to Retama Manor Nursing Center.

It seems just like yesterday when you walked into San Isidro High School for the irst time in August 2015. You joined your new classmates for your Sophomore Year and began your journey at San Isidro High School! What a journey it has been all of these years and it has been our greatest joy to watch you grow and develop into the beautiful young lady that you are! You really have done it all and have made us so proud to be your parents. You jumped right into Student Council and FFA and earned your way into presidency of both organizations which is what you are most proud of. You took your presidency very seriously because your fellow students counted on you for direction and leadership. Also you felt that when a woman is able to have a leadership role she has a responsibility to lead well in order to pave the way for
other women! Your grades have always been very important to you which led to your induction into the National Honor Society. You tried it all and graduated with no regrets: student government, volleyball, ready writing, baking, cake decorating, raising goats, working with heifers, competing at The Starr County Youth Fair, competing at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and even though you didn’t want to...gave beauty pageants a try. You knew that thinking “I should have” was not an option! So you leave high school with no regrets and knowing that no matter what... You were a friend to all! Because truth is you were stronger than you knew! You have come a long way from the little girl we dropped off at Saint Peter’s School in Laredo many years ago. And on that irst day of school when we were sure
you would cry... instead you put your arm around one of your classmates that was crying and said “its going to be okay” Now it is us who will be crying on your irst day at Texas A & M College Station and relying on our friends and family to tell us “it’s going to be okay”. Now you are a young lady ready to take on the next chapter in your life...and as your parents we say, “Go Nissa Go”! The best is yet to come! Love You, Dad, Mom & Grandma
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11
