Grulla High School Held Their Senior Banquet Roma ISD Celebrates Roma High School Class of 2018 Top 10 Percent
Grulla High School held their Senior Banquet at the GHS Gymnasium. Seniors were each recognized for their achievements and awards as their names were called they stepped forward to receive packets containing their graduation gown regalia. The event also served to announce and present class rankings and the top ten students. Damaris Flores was announced as the class Valedictorian and Yubizdely Tanguma was announced as the class Salutatorian. Class favorites were announced to much cheer from all seniors present. The event concluded with a catered lunch and live entertainment by Grulla Mariachi de Plata. Congratulations to all students!
Congratulations to the Roma High School Class of 2018 Top 10 Percent Graduates! The students were treated to a dinner celebration recently, where their accomplishments were highlighted and their academic and extracurricular success was celebrated by administrators from across the district. “You got here yes, by
following rules, but you also got here by taking chances. You tried something new. You chose the harder classes. You took a chance on the teachers everyone said would challenge you. You didn’t stand down from high expectations. The words ‘can’t’ and ‘wouldn’t’ aren’t in your vocabulary,” said Roma ISD School Board President Raul
P. Moreno in his speech to the students. “And now with a wide open future ahead of you, I urge you to never ever look at what lies ahead and utter the words ‘I can’t’. Take the road less traveled because with the education you have earned here in The Gladiator Nation you have all the tools you need to make your ambitions possible.”

AC2E Elementary Students Gave Their Moms a Treat
02-22-1947 † 06-07-2003
A Message from Heaven I’m not so far away from you, just a little way beyond past the cares and past the pain, far past the earthly bonds. When you feel you miss me most, as years go drifting by, each memory will prove to you that our love will never die. For memories are but a touch from the Father’s gentle hand, to heal your pain and mend your hearts, to help you understand. That while I have left you far too soon, I did not leave alone, for the Father sent his angels to gently take me home. Take comfort when you think of me and keep my love in your heart, and with the warmth of each memory, we will never be apart.
Muffins with Mom!! 2nd grade teachers at AC2E Elementary gave moms quite the treat for Mother’s Day! Moms were invited to come spend some quality time with their child where they shared muffins with juice and worked on a painting together which depicted the love they share! Great job teachers, parents, and students!!

A LIGHT IS GONE A light from our household is gone. A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home which never can be filled. We have to mourn the loss of one we did our best to save. Beloved on earth, regretted still, remembered in the grace. It was hard to part with one so dear. We little thought the time was near. Farewell, dear one, your life is past. Our love for you till the end will last.

Amen.

DPS Warns of Dangers of Leaving Children in Vehicles
Rising temperatures increase risk of vehicular heatstroke The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is warning residents that warmer weather places children at greater risk of injury or death if left unattended in a vehicle. Every year children die from heatstroke after being left in a vehicle or entering a vehicle unnoticed. Such negligence could lead to criminal charges. A child should never be left unattended in a vehicle. “Children are needlessly dying every year because they are left unattended in vehicles,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “The public can do their part by notifying emergency personnel if they witness a child alone or in distress inside a vehicle – regardless of the weather conditions.” According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, heatstroke is one of the leading causes of noncrash-related fatalities among children. Temperatures inside a car can rise more than 20 degrees in only 10 minutes; and even with an outside temperature of 60 degrees, the temperature inside a car can reach 110 degrees. Leaving windows partially rolled down does not help. In addition, young children are particularly at risk since their bodies heat up faster than an adult. DPS offers the following tips for preventing vehicular heatstroke deaths and injuries: • Never leave your child unattended in the vehicle. • Call 9-1-1 if you see a child alone in a car, and emergency personnel will provide guidance. • Teach children not to play in vehicles, and make sure to place the keys out of reach when not being used. • Always check the back seats or cargo areas of your vehicle before walking away. • Establish reminders that help ensure you remove children from the vehicle. For example: leave your bag, lunch or cell phone in the back seat with the child’s car seat. • If a child goes missing, open the doors and trunks to every vehicle in the area. Many heatstroke deaths occur when a child accesses a parked car unnoticed. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services also provides related information. Additionally, animals are also susceptible to heat-related injury or death – don’t put your pets in these life-threatening conditions.
engage in long-term physical training, which leads to healthy choices for their future,” said Roma ISD PE Coordinator Octavio Cantu. “We are so pleased by the effort the students put into their training and their execution at the event. This will be a great activity
students can look forward to for years to come. I want to thank the administration from each school, as well as our Roma ISD School Board and Administration, for their support and for helping make this event a reality for our Roma ISD children.”

A SAN ANTONIO
Amen. (S.G.)

Convenient Online Options Underutilized The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reminding residents that many customers can skip the trip to a driver license (DL) office altogether, which is especially convenient during the busy summer months. Most residents who are eligible to skip the trip are not taking advantage of the option to quickly renew their Texas DL or identification (ID) card online (or by phone). Address changes can also be taken care of online (or by mail) in many instances. Find out if you are eligible to renew online by visiting Texas.gov. Another underutilized option available to customers who are required to make an office visit is renewing their DL or ID card early, which allows customers to choose a convenient time that best fits their schedule, and potentially avoid the busiest times at DL offices. Did you know you can renew up to two years in advance of the expiration date on your current card if you go into an office, or up to one year in advance if you are renewing online? The new expiration date will remain the same – even if you renew early. Visit the DPS website to make sure you have the proper paperwork (including documents needed for residency requirements) before making a trip to the office. To be eligible to renew online, the cardholder must be a U.S. citizen and the expiration date on the card must be within one year.
Additionally, in order to renew online, the card cannot have been expired for more than two years. Requirements for renewing online are available at Texas.gov, the
official website of the State of Texas. Additional information about online services can be found on the DPS website.
