Ailyn Barrera, Cassandra Alanis, and Jade Guzman
Received the English Department Scholarship
Guzman, who plans to pursue a career as a ultrasound technician explains “I never knew what my calling in life was, until I met the ultrasound technician that changed my own life. He helped me figure out what was wrong with me, and I felt safe, which is how I want to make other people feel.”

The Grulla High School English Department would like to acknowledge the following students for receiving the English Department Scholarship: Ailyn Barrera, Cassandra Alanis, and Jade Guzman. These girls have been able to succeed academically despite many obstacles and setbacks. Their perseverance is admirable, and we hope that this minor contribution will assist them as they continue to pursue their education.
While it is no secret that they have all overcome adversity, these three girls have shown their determination to keep moving forward. Each of them shared a personal essay that spoke of their experiences and how those experiences fueled their desire to further their educational careers as a means to a better future.
As educators, it is this drive or the willingness to better ourselves that we try everyday to instill in our students. Ailyn, Cassandra, and Jade are a representation of our work as educators. When asked the following question: what is your aspiration in life? All three students answered differently, yet they all felt compelled to seek a career that would allow them to help others.
Ailyn Barrera, who plans to become a registered nurse stated, “After the loss of my grandfather
and seeing all the nurses try their hardest to help him, I realized that was what I wanted to do. I wanted to help other people, so that no one ever has to feel the way I did that day.”
Similarly, the next recipient Jade
The final recipient Cassandra Alanis, who strives to become a real estate agent replied, “Growing up, I never had a forever home because my family and I moved so much. The reason why I want to become a real estate agent is to give someone a home, so that they can grow old, see their children and grandchildren grow up, and to make all their memories as family, since I never got to.”
Again, the Grulla High School Department, congratulates and wishes these bright girls the best in their future endeavors.
“Whether we observe the occasion through public ceremony or through private prayer, Memorial Day leaves few hearts unmoved. Each of the patriots whom we remember on this day was first a beloved son or daughter, a brother or sister, or a spouse, friend, and neighbor.”

Memorial Day weekend will bring increased traffic on Texas roads
OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED MONDAY, MAY 29TH IN OBSERVANCE OF MEMORIAL DAY AND ON TUESDAY, MAY 30TH FOR STAFF IN SERVICE. THANK YOU. State Law: Drivers must move over or slow down for tow trucks and other emergency vehicles Motorists traveling during the Memorial Day weekend are reminded that state law requires drivers to slow down or move over for emergency vehicles – including tow trucks, police cars and fire trucks – stopped on the side of the road with their emergency lights activated.
Texas law requires drivers to slow down at least 20 miles per hour under the posted speed limit or, if able, to change lanes when they’re passing a first responder stopped on the road with their emergency lights activated.
Large numbers of travelers are expected on Texas roads, which means that more breakdowns and traffic stops are likely as well. Drivers should pay attention to what’s happening around them and prepare to react quickly.
TDLR licenses tow operators and tow companies in Texas, and regulates driver education/driving safety courses, and motorcycle/ ATV safety courses.

Memorial Day is a time to remember those who gave their lives in military service for all of us in the United States of America. As we enjoy the blessings of liberty this weekend, remember we are here today because of heroes, people who, from the beginnings of our country to present day, gave all so that we can enjoy freedom. Whether here at home or overseas, military service comes with inherent dangers. Our hearts go out to families and fellow veterans who’s loved ones and friends died in military service.
This Memorial Day, include the National Moment of Remembrance in your activities at 3 p.m. It’s a minute for Americans to unite in remembrance of servicemembers lost, some who we know and many we may not know, all being the sons and daughters of this country.
Sincerely,
s/Laura Koerner Texas Veterans Commission Chairwoman and U.S. Navy VeteranREQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
Amen. S. G.
