Tarjeta de Agradecimiento En Memoria de

Ramon Galvan Julio 27, 1945 † Noviembre 6, 2023

RGC Rattler Basketball Team First scrimmage of the 2023-2024 season. Great job overall. Came out with 3 victories against Sharyland, Hidalgo and Sharyland Pioneer.

RGC Crime Stoppers Recognized Roma HS Diving Jayda Perez Earn 1st Anali Hinojosa and Carolina Rodriguez Earn a Spot in the 2023-2024 TMEA All-State Mariachi Ensemble for Outstanding Achievements Place and Dayanetzy Earn 3rd Place

At the 34th Annual Texas Crime Stoppers Conference held at the McAllen Convention Center, the Rio Grande City Crime Stoppers were presented with the ‘Greatest Dollar Recovery Award’ and the ‘Most Cases Cleared’ Award. The Greatest Dollar Recovery Award is one of the productivity awards given to Crime Stoppers corporations in Texas that have the highest dollar recovery and/ or most cases cleared in each population category. The award is presented during the annual Texas Best Awards ceremony, which recognizes Crime Stoppers corporations from around the state that stand out in a variety of categories. Crime Stoppers is a communitybased program that encourages members of the public to provide anonymous tips and information about criminal activities to law enforcement agencies. These tips can lead to the arrest and conviction of criminals, the recovery of stolen property, or the prevention of crimes.

Receiving these awards can be seen as a testament to the program’s success in engaging the community, solving crimes, and preventing criminal activities, often resulting in a safer and more secure environment for the public.

Congratulations to the Roma HS Diving Team on their outstanding performance at the meet at Weslaco High School. Jayda Perez earned 1st place and Dayanetzy earned 3rd place. Governor Abbott Signs COVID Vaccine Freedom Bill At Governor’s Mansion On November 10, 2023, Governor Greg Abbott signed a law banning COVID-19 vaccine mandates by private employers passed during Special Session #3 of the 88th Legislature at the Governor’s Mansion in Austin. This new law protects the personal healthcare choices and livelihoods of Texans by prohibiting private employers from requiring employees or contractors receive a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. “Senate Bill 7 prohibits private employers from requiring employees to get a COVID vaccination—and employers that violate this law are subject to a $50,000 fine as well as a lawsuit and injunctive relief from the Texas Attorney General,” said Governor Abbott. “This law adds

to the law that I already signed that prohibits state and local governments from imposing COVID mandates. It’s long past time to put COVID behind us and restore individual freedom to all Texans. I thank Senator Middleton, Representative Leach, and all other members of the Texas Legislature who stood with this issue every step of the way.” Earlier this year, Governor Abbott signed a similar law GOVERNOR ABBOTT, page 8

7 warning signs for diabetes Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated levels of blood glucose. Diabetes can cause serious damage to the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart, and blood vessels over time. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn’t make enough insulin. The World Health Organization says about 422 million people worldwide have diabetes, and 1.5 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes each year. According to OSF Healthcare, an integrated health care network serving individuals across Illinois and Michigan, the following are

seven potential warning signs of diabetes. 1. Frequent urination: This is one of the key indicators of diabetes. When diabetes is present, the kidneys work harder to rid the body of excess sugar, producing more urine. 2. Dry mouth and excessive thirst: This goes in conjunction with frequent urination, as the body is trying to increase fluid to alleviate excess sugar. 3. Dry skin: Dry skin, especially around the feet, can be a symptom of diabetes. 4.Slow-healing wounds: A higher

blood sugar level can interfere with the body’s ability to heal wounds. 5. Blurry vision: Some people notice vision changes that do not seem to be tied to an eye illness or another condition. This may be a result of diabetes. 6. Weight loss: Sudden weight loss without trying to lose weight is often an indication that something isn’t quite right. Diabetes could be the culprit. 7. Yeast infections and UTIs: Women may experience more frequent vaginal yeast infections and urinary tract infections if they have diabetes.
