Knowing the difference can save you, your home, and your family,” said Lorraine Carli, vice-president of outreach and advocacy at NFPA.
Political Ad Paid By Candidate
The Rio Grande City Fire Department encourages all residents to embrace the 2021 Fire Prevention Week theme. “It’s important to learn the different sounds of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put his arms around you and whispered, ‘Come with Me.’ With tearful eyes we watched you slowly fade away, although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us... He only takes the best.
We would like to express our thanks to relatives and friends for their love and support during our time of sorrow. Your donations of lowers, food, masses, and prayers are deeply appreciated. Thank you and God bless you all!!!

Lord, you are close to the broken hearted Be with me now in my grief and loneliness. Give me courage to face loss and not to grieve in silence Be with me as I struggle with many different and painful feelings. Ease the hurt in my heart. Encircle me in your love. Help me to believe that one day I will no longer have this deep sorrow. May I find comfort in sharing my grief with those who understand the strong bonds of love. Stay with me Lord, support me. Help me to know that your power is at work within me as I deal with my grief.
It has been one year since you went home to be with our Lord. It broke our hearts to lose you. But you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home. We often sit and think of you and think of how you died, to think we couldn’t say good-bye before you closed your eyes. We suffer so much sorrow, and its never-ending grief, which we must bear, until we breathe our last farewell and inally meet you there.

knows how to respond. To learn the sounds of your specific smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, check the manufacturer’s instructions that came in the box, or search the brand and model online.” Rio Grande City Fire Department wants to share safety tips to help you “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety” •A continuous set of three loud beeps-beep, beep, beep-means smoke or fire. Get out, call 9-1-1, and stay out. •A single chirp every 30 or 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be changed. •All smoke alarms must be replaced after 10 years. •Chirping that continues after the battery has been replaced means the alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced. •Make sure your smoke and CO alarms meet the needs of all your family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities. The Rio Grande City Fire Department is virtually hosting an educational video in support of this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”,the video will be furnished to the counseling departments of the school districts in our community. RGCGISD and Rio Grande City Plan Lighted Christmas Event The RGCGISD Public Relations Department, Revive Fort Ringgold volunteers and the Rio Grande City tourism department met last week to discuss in hosting a “Lighted Christmas Fort Ringgold and program”. The initial planning group discussed in setting up the Fort Ringgold Parade field with lighted Christmas theme figures. The plan is to have each school campus or local business sponsor a “Lighted display” along the parade and be part a larger lighted team event. The final product would be that folks can drive up at night around the parade field and see the magic of Christmas displayed in lights. The other part of the event includes Christmas performances by children from all the campuses. A stage would be created next to
the parade field flagpole where the events will be performed. Some tradition events are already planned and are scheduled in our local calendars: December 2nd - Main Street board – Lighting of the downtown Christmas Tree. December 3rd Chamber of Commerce lighted Christmas parade is still planned to be held on Friday night December Christmas committee members are Adelina Villarreal, Cathy Rubio, Martha Barrera, Denise Alaniz, Esther Ayala, Sara Hernandez, Gilbert Milan, Dalinda

Of Emergency SNAP Benefits For October On September 30, 2021, Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is providing almost $294 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits for the month of October as the state continues its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The allotments are expected to help more than 1.4 million Texas households. “Thank you to the USDA for authorizing these crucial benefits for more than 1.4 million Texas households,” said Governor Abbott. “These emergency benefits will ensure that Texans can continue to put nutritious food on the table for their families.” “We are grateful that we’ll be able to continue to help Texans provide food for themselves and their families as we work together during this pandemic,” said Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner Wayne Salter. HHSC received federal approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to extend the maximum, allowable amount of SNAP benefits to recipients
based on family size, and all SNAP households will receive a minimum of $95 in emergency allotments. This additional emergency allotment should appear in recipients’ accounts by October 31. The emergency October allotments are in addition to the more than $4.5 billion in benefits previously provided to Texans since April 2020. Administered by HHSC, SNAP is a federal program that provides food assistance to eligible lowincome families and individuals in Texas. Texans in need can apply for benefits, including SNAP and Medicaid, at YourTexasBenefits. com or use the Your Texas Benefits mobile app to manage their benefits.

A. P. R.
Dear Sacred Heart of Jesus, in the past I have asked for favors. This time I ask you this very special one (mention favor). Take it, Dear Jesus, and place it within your own heart, where your Father sees it. Then, in your merciful eyes it will become your favor, not mine. Amen. 1910 - Rio Grande City Ice, Water, and Light Company Before we had electric companies like AEP, CPL, Frontier, Solar Power and Water districts or corporations, Rio Grande City had the Ice, Water, and Light Company. In 1910, Mr. Lino Perez Sr. along with his brothers-in-law formed the private company of the Rio Grande City Ice, Water, and Light Company which provided utility services to Fort Ringgold and area residents. Mr. Perez led the company until 1924. In 1924 the company sold a portion of the business to Central Power and Light Company (CPL). Today the old Ice, Water plant structure can still be seen. Today, the city runs our water service. There are no more ice plants as ice is now a household made item
through personal refrigeration. Electricity is now a service of choice for the consumer. Mr. Perez was a true visionary and community leader with many talents. He served as Rio’s first mayor in 1926, he served as postmaster, school board member and other notable positions. Soda water bottle was created the local company circa 1920’s. The Coca-Cola stye bottle measures about 7 inches in height and is embossed with a Texas star, the company name and City name in this case Rio Grande City. The bottle is over 100 years old. There are serval bottles still around in local Rio families. (Submitted by Colonel (US Army Retired) Ross Barrera.
