Young artists set to glow Diggers Rest Primary School will farewell its old art room with a 2000-piece glowing art exhibition. The Great Glow Show will be held on Thursday, March 30 in the current art room to celebrate the pupiks and their work before the room gets demolished during the school holidays to make way for a new specialist hub. The school’s art teacher, Taryn Paterra, said more than 400 pupils have contributed to the show. “The event will feature over 2000 art pieces … with kids entering four pieces each,” Ms explained. “It has become a massive event with all 2000 art pieces displayed being fluorescent. It is actually quite outstanding, the efforts and the effects of this show.” Ms Paterra said the school wanted to farewell the old art room with a bang. “[I thought] let’s go out with a bang [and] paint the room black.” Ms Paterra said the specialist hub will also include a gym and stage. The work is being funded by a $13.4 million state government grant. “The kids are incredibly excited to see the new building,” she said. “Construction will begin shortly and it will be amazing.” Art teacher Taryn Paterra with pupils Kodi and Skye getting ready for the Great Glow Show. Cricket frustration grows By Zoe Moffatt Malmsbury Cricket Club is frustrated with Macedon Ranges council’s lack of communication about works on its clubhouse following floods last year, which has left them reliant on Eskies. The floods, which swept through the grounds in October, caused extensive damage to the clubhouse and all of its contents. Club secretary Matt Cox said he was frustrated the council had been receiving updates on the clubhouse and not passing

them on. “It’s very frustrating,” Mr Cox said. “[The council] got an update two weeks before [they] told me.” Star Weekly sent an update request to Macedon Ranges council on March 13 in regards to running water and power. Council said “the club was informed of progress of works on February 9, 2023, and an update on insurance repairs was provided on March 14, 2023.” In this update, the council said “water was restored to the Malmsbury Cricket

Club changeroom facilities on February 10, 2023.” Mr Cox said while there is running water in the bathroom there is not any in the clubhouse. “Unless you want to make a cup of tea from the bathroom,” he said. “But that’s not how things work normally.” Council also said its has “requested a further update on the permits for the canteen and pavilion”. While council have completed works to the fencing, cricket nets and filled in the pot holes on the gravel driveway, Mr Cox said the

work has not been up to a high standard. “They fixed the driveway, but it’s not a smooth drive ground,” he said. “I went back to them saying … nothing’s level, nothing’s straight.” “I just think it’s a bit slack, it’s frustrating.” With the baseball season starting soon, Mr Cox said he would like to see the clubhouse back to working order. “The clubhouse needs to be returned back to an operating clubhouse for baseball season … It’s been going on for six months, there’s not [a] set date.”
