Brimbank council’s director of infrastructure and environment, Paul Younis, is the council’s new chief executive officer. Appointed last Tuesday night, Mr Younis will start his new role on October 12 following the resignation of Bill Jaboor. “It will be a very interesting and challenging time,” Mr Younis told the Star Weekly last night. “I’m excited, humbled, I’m thrilled.” Mr Younis has two years’ CEO experience with Corangamite council and 20 years of experience in senior management positions.

He was also acting CEO with Buloke Shire Council in the state’s north-west for six months to “restore financial sustainability” after being seconded by the state government. “It was a real mess there,” he said. Brimbank council suspended its ordinary meeting to the public for several minutes before announcing Mr Younis as the new CEO on Tuesday. Jaboor had spent 72 weeks of his life sitting in council meetings. Chair of administrators, John Watson, said Mr Younis had “shone” through among the tough field of applicants. “In the end it was Mr Younis’ passion and vision for Brimbank that stood out,” he said. “Paul was able to present a plan for the future that considered the many challenges the sector is facing. Most importantly, Paul is looking forward to the return of and working closely with the democratically elected council.” The council did not disclose Mr Younis’ new salary or the length of his contract.
