Amy Nicholls had never considered entering a pageant, but a spur-of-the-moment decision has taken her all the way to representing Victoria in the national finals of the Miss Galaxy competition. Ms Nicholls will fly to Queensland in March for the finals and admits to feeling some nerves. “I’m a little bit nervous, lots of people have experience and I have none, but it’s been lots of fun so far,” she said. A chance encounter on Facebook proved the catalyst to joining. “I saw the application on Facebook and thought I’d put myself out there and see what happens. “I really didn’t think I’d get this far.” As part of the selection process, Ms Nicholls was interviewed by judges and had to share her journey, which predominantly consisted of charitable work, on social media. Since being advised of her selection she has set her sights on nationals. “At nationals there will be an interview section, a gown section, a swimsuit section and a photography section. “You also get extra points for the amount of charity work you do and money you raise.” Ms Nicholls has selected the Make A Wish Foundation as her charity. “It’s a foundation I really support,” she said. “Now it’s just a matter of working out the best way to raise some money for them.” Tate Papworth

The iconic Millennium Man statue will be restored as part of the upgrades and continue to be a prominent feature. Local resident Dinesh Jayasuriya, who has led a campaign to have the Zeus-like creation restored, welcomed the news. “That’s a great idea, he was originally meant to only be around a few years, so hopefully once they fi x him up he’ll be around for half a century or more before he needs work done,” Mr Jayasuriya said.

He hopes Millennium Man will become a focal point of Sunshine when the super hub train station is built. “Ideally they’d move him out of the carpark and on to Hampshire Road so more people will see him,” he said. “It would be great if we could dress him up to reflect the season, for example we could dress him up as Santa in December. “It would be a real reason for people to get off the train and have a walk through Sunshine.”

restaurants and casual dining options. It will also feature landscaped gardens and open space, a children’s play area and a dedicated community entertainment zone. The serviced apartment hotel follows recent upgrades to Vicinity’s flagship centre Chadstone, where a $130 million, 250-room hotel was opened in October. While the marketplace is set for a whole new look, there are plans to incorporate the past.
