The bonfire is back This year’s Djerriwarrh Festival will be bigger and better than ever, with an array of events and activities for everyone to enjoy. Kicking off the festival is the street parade at 11am, with parade entrants dressing up to showcase the featured theme of Storytime celebrating favourite children’s stories. The bonfire will make a return this year (lit at 7.45pm) and the main stage will host a range of great entertainment and performers to enjoy throughout the evening, starting with a band for the kids at 4.30pm. The Busker’s Tree is a great place to listen to the sounds of Melbourne’s upcoming talent such as Ariela Jacobs, Anna O and Josh Cashman. The International Food Bazaar will have more vendors than ever, the Community Information Hub will be bustling with activities, and the Melton Rotary Car Show will again have the classics drawing crowds. Stroll through the Intercultural Space or check out the Lions Club Carnival in Police Paddock, with rides, food and entertainment. There’ll also be more than 60 market stalls to browse through and the little ones will be kept busy with lots of free kids activities, including Tiny Tot Town and a petting zoo.

Finish off the day with a display not to be missed, the Woodgrove Fireworks Finale at 10pm.
Fire breathing and flying high, Dragon has been soaring into the April sun since the ’70s and will headline this year’s Djerriwarrh Festival. Originally formed in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1972, this fast-rising band moved to Sydney in 1975, and it was from there the hits started coming. It took some time, experience and travel until the band found themselves, with Marc Hunter on vocals, Paul Hewson on keyboard, Todd Hunter on bass, Kerry Jacobsen on drums and Robert Taylor on guitar. Together, the boys mix iconic riffs and awesome sounds. Having performed all over the world, Dragon continues to entertain fans today. Their first single, ‘This Time’, released in
September 1976 received a lot of radio airplay. Their third single from the album ‘Sunshine’, peaked at number 36 on the ARIA charts. Success saw them rise to become Australia’s number one band. ‘Running Free’ was released in November 1977 and went on to exceed double platinum status with sales reaching number six on the album charts. ‘April Sun In Cuba’, written by Paul and Marc, was a stand out single reaching number two on the charts. In 1983 their single ‘Rain’ also hit the number two spot. Dragon was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2008 and will no doubt rain down at at this year’s festival.

ReuBen STOne Hot off the back of a national New Zealand tour Reuben Stone’s third single ‘Breaking Ground’ has just been released online and will feature at this year’s festival. Playing alongside world-renowned artists such as Sea Sick Steve (USA), Pharrell Williams (USA), Dub FX (AUS) and Matsumoto Zoku (JAP) Reuben’s tracks blend a diverse range of styles including dub, rock and funky glitch. His beats have the sonic power of a full live band and his multi-instrumental skills on guitar, bass, trombone, beat box, melodica and synthesizer, makes him a one-man-band of cosmic dimensions. THe KITe MACHIne Loud, funky and completely ballistic, The Kite Machine, formed in 2011, is one of Geelong’s greatest Funk Rock exports. Frontman Levi Anderson recruited drummer Kane Sherriff and bassist Liam Brennan. The rocking trio has carved a serious niche in the independent music scene with tight grooves and manic riffs as their signature. Their 2012 debut single ‘The Crook and the Skank’ set the bar for their distinctive funk driven styling, selling out and receiving widespread acclaim.
The Mik Maks
Sing along with the Mik Maks After proving to be a huge hit with the kids last year, the Mik Maks will be back at the Djerriwarrh Festival in 2016 to entertain the young ones. Brothers Joel, Alan, Brian and Dean McInnes all share a love of music instilled by their mother at a young age. It is this passion that took them from a sing-a-long at a family gathering to becoming Australia’s newest and most colourful children’s entertainment band, the Mik Maks. Writing and performing their own songs to engage children through colour, fun and movement, the group has enormous fun bringing families and communities together and feel privileged to be able to share their music with their young audiences. It’s hearing the stories of families singing and dancing together to their quirky songs that motivates the brothers to do what they do. The band also features special Mik Maks members ‘Drums the Panda’ and ‘Bruce the Hairy Crocodile’. The MikMaks have produced a live performance DVD, and last year released their second album ‘Working on the Farm’. SARAH YveTTe MCLeOD Fronting the rock band The Superjesus, from 1994-2004, Australian singersongwriter Sarah Yvette McLeod is an iconic Aussie rock chick. The Superjesus won two ARIA Music Awards and sold more than 300,000 records during their career. After going solo, her 2005 debut album, ‘Beauty Was a Tiger’ broke the Top 40 on the ARIA Albums Chart. AnnA O Smooth beats, suave style and a breathtaking voice is Anna O. After studying at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Anna put together her three-piece band and began refining her sound. In 2014 Anna O released singles Sleepless, Hibernation and Symphony, all receiving rave reviews. Her latest singles, Close My Eyes and Whisper have again caused excitement with fans.

JOSH CASHMAn Every now and then, a local artist emerges who has an undeniable, palpable and infectious momentum and 21 year-old Josh Cashman definitely fits into that category. From Gippsland, Josh hit the ground running, immersing himself in the local indie music scene. Skillfully interweaving layers of electronic textures and sublime loops with his acoustic folk originals, his first, 2015 single ‘Running’, led him to gain a following of more than 20,000 fans. His third single ‘Patience’ was streamed via Spotify US Viral Charts more than 180,000 times, and he has supported renowned musicians such as Ash Grunwald and Jon Toogood (Shihad).
