It’s been an exciting year for businesses across the City of Melton and it was wonderful to celebrate their worthy achievements at the City of Melton Business Excellence Awards.

Business of the Year

These awards are about recognising and rewarding the great contributions local businesses make to our city.

EYNESBURY HOMESTEAD & GOLF

B ID: MELCIT20180228 TE: 05-03-18

Each year, I’m amazed by the level of professionalism and innovation of the nominees and, in particular, of the finalists and winners. It makes me proud that the City of Melton is home to so many stand out businesses. I’d like to congratulate the winners for their hard work and talent which earned them this honour, especially in such a competitive field. It’s great to see other businesses recognise the value of showcasing outstanding local businesses and I’d like to thank our event sponsors for their support. Our principal sponsor, Quest Caroline Springs understands this well, having come to us as an applicant and becoming a multi-award winner before partnering with us on the awards.

This year, we had 30 finalists shortlisted across 12 categories. With a 50 per cent increase in nominations, it was difficult for the judges to pick a shortlist from a long list of impressive businesses. In vibrant Eynesbury township, historic Eynesbury Homestead & Golf is a neighbourhood hub, with a café for casual dining, function spaces and a Graham Marsh-designed golf course.

I would especially like to congratulate Eynesbury Homestead & Golf for taking out the Business of the Year award. It’s a fantastic feat, and very well deserved.

Congratulations again to our winners as well as all the finalists.

Recently appointed general manager Sam Charif says the business is a wonderful community asset on all levels.

“Our championship golf course has been, and will continue to be, the scene of tournaments as well as providing locals and people from further afield a significant – and picturesque – course for social rounds and other matches.”

These are the businesses to watch and I’m sure we will continue to see them grow and succeed in the future.

“The homestead, from the 1870s, is rich in history and the innate elegance of the times, making it a destination in its own right. It has all the modern comforts in place and is a great place to gather, share a meal and soak up the ambience.

Eynesbury Homestead is a picture-perfect venue for a wedding or other special occasion. Wedding ceremonies prior to the reception can take place at the homestead. This is a logistical asset for both bridal parties and guests, and the setting is quite stunning for photos.

“As part of other changes taking place, the café has a new menu. We’ve listened to our customers’ feedback and believe the menu reflects that. We’ve stepped it up in the

“We would love for Eynesbury to become a tourist destination for the western suburbs,” says Sam. “There are definitely lots of plans so everyone should watch this space.”

MAYORAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD THE ENCHANTED STUDIOS

Imagine a birthday party for your child where the space is transformed into a superhero village or a snow princess castle, and in-character hosts serve lunch and entertain the kids with games and activities. That’s just a part of an exciting offering from The Enchanted Studios in Ravenhall, a business created in 2018 by Catherine Patience and Natelle Modica, two mums who saw the need for something special in this market niche. The duo’s talents also extend to staging other functions, such as baby and bridal showers and kitchen teas – and more. The kids’ party packages have 13 themes. Aside from the snow princess castle (with snow machine) and the dinosaur jungle themes, Catherine and Natelle can transform areas from a beautiful enchanted fairy garden or groovy disco room (with light-up floor) to ‘under the sea’ (with a bubble machine).

ACCESS & INCLUSION AWARD

MELTON MUSIC When David and Jasmine Lynch stated Melton Music with six pupils and two studios at their newly built home in 2010, they didn’t imagine that within nine years and two location moves they’d have a business that now employs nine teachers and four staff members to look after more than 180 students Melton Music provides affordable high-quality musical education, as well as carrying out repairs, and selling new and second-hand instruments, and sheet music, accessories, equipment and books. Onsite music tuition is available for all ages and all instruments, with both private and group classes. And Melton Music adds enormous value to tuition, with twice yearly concerts, school holiday programs, and songwriting/recording studio.

Named for their four children (Mia, Oliver, Jack and Ellie), Mojé essentials was launched by sisters Cal Payne and Dee Bodon in October 2017.

In vibrant Eynesbury township, historic Eynesbury Homestead & Golf is a neighbourhood hub, with a café for casual dining, function spaces and a Graham Marsh-designed golf course.

Last year’s Business of the Year winner, Fixwell Smash Repairs continues on its winning way, maintaining a reputation for exemplary vehicle repairs.

The pair works closely with chemists to formulate and hand craft small batches of affordable natural skincare and cleaning products.

Recently appointed general manager Sam Charif says the business is a wonderful community asset on all levels.

Mojé essentials products are non-toxic, organic and 100 per cent natural, and vegan-friendly. All products are free from parabens, sulphates, GMO ingredients, bleaching and brightening agents, and synthetic fragrances and preservatives.

“The homestead, from the 1870s, is rich in history and the innate elegance of the times, making it a destination in its own right. It has all the modern comforts in place and is a great place to gather, share a meal and soak up the ambience.

Owned and managed by Victor Mercieca, Melton’s largest panel shop has an under-one-roof approach. Besides smash repairs, 8it2208102TICL 81-3 carries out wheel alignments, servicing, mechanical repairs and airconditioning services. Fixwell also has towing and car-hire services.

Dee says the family-run business is committed to reducing chemical overload in Australian households.

“As part of other changes taking place, the café has a new menu. We’ve listened to our customers’ feedback and believe the menu reflects that. We’ve stepped it up in the service area as well. “Our championship golf course has been, and will continue to be, the scene of tournaments as well as providing locals and people from further afield a significant – and picturesque – course for social rounds and other matches.” Eynesbury Homestead is a picture-perfect venue for a wedding or other special occasion. Wedding ceremonies prior to the reception can take place at the homestead.

“We understand the impact this can have, so we prioritise their needs, making it as hassle-free as possible,” says Victor.” Fixwell sends quotes direct to insurance companies so the claim process is a speedy one. “We’re great with vehicles and like to think we’re also good with people.”

“We want to help educate people about the importance of switching to natural products,” she says. “For instance, we had a customer say after buying her third bottle of natural hand and body wash that the eczema her daughter had experienced since she was a baby has been so improved that previously necessary cortisone cream hasn’t been used in a long time.”

Victor’s family-run business has a crew that puts honesty and loyalty at the forefront, but hand-in-hand with that is an empathy for customers who’ve had an accident.

Established by Serana McNicol and Tony Noyce as a mobile pool and spa service in 2010, Melton Pools & Spa attracted plenty of business and discovered a market opening to justify shopfront premises.

As Same Day Printing comes up for its 11th year, director Tom Dickson reflects on the changes and growth his business has experienced in that time.

With two clinics operating in Taylors Hill and Caroline Springs, Watervale Dental has Dr Ruchika Gupta as principal dentist and Deepank Gupta as director.

The family-owned business now employs 12 staff members and won this year’s Victorian State Marketing Award with their major swimming pool equipment supplier, AstraPool.

“We started with a team of two, with a plan to bring every type of printing need to a range of clients. We achieved that and are now trusted by clients all over Melbourne and beyond. Our team has grown to 14, and we now operate two sites.”

The clinics offer preventative, restorative and cosmetic dentistry and have a strong focus on helping people of all ages in a compassionate and profession manner.

Its 2018-19 business marketing strategy has produced retail and onsite service growth in a depressed economic environment. The business offers outstanding spas and swim spas, as well as energy-efficient equipment. The in-store service team assists customers to keep water healthy, sparkling and ready for enjoyment. All budgets are catered for, whether a commercial or residential installation. Courteous, professional and enthusiastic team members receive ongoing staff development in order to maintain excellence in all areas.

Along with printing every type of card, brochure, book and sticker, the business also does large posters, banners, photo block mounts and the like. There’s also an assortment of custom apparel items.

The practice recently introduced a licensed product that gives patients a visual perspective on how their teeth and new smile will look before getting a complex makeover – the first of its kind in the western suburbs.

The business has the latest technologies to assist client interaction, but the focus remains on face-to-face so clients will always have someone to answer questions or solve problems.

Watervale Dental also provides work experience for year 10 students, an aspect that earned the business recognition from Brimbank/ Melton Local Learning & Employment Network in 2017.

Tom believes the future is bright, with hopes of expansion.

Dr Ruchika, who received a Young Executive Award-Female in 2017, volunteers as a presenter on SBS-2 (Hindi) Radio.

Recently rebranded to reflect its adoption of technology-based services and expansion into New Zealand, XO Accounting is the new name for the Melton accounting firm, known since its launch in 2013 as Lasseter In Focus.

Hard work, innovation, planning, excellent communication and a customer-first approach are why Events 720 has been able to take enormous strides since starting out four years ago, according to owners Leon and Peter Mortimer.

The practice has grown in leaps and bounds and now services clients across the globe. Managing director Michael Kirby says he’s particularly proud of the completion this year of an integrated communication and workflow management system that’s now recognised as industry-leading in worldwide accounting services.

With nine employees and two premises, Events 720 has grown from operating locally to serving all of Australia and New Zealand.

Michael and his team offer a full range of professional services to business, superannuation and individual clients, employing userfriendly technology.

Earlier this year, Events 720 built four large stands for two different shows in two different states, requiring teams to work incredibly hard and band together to get optimum results. One stand in particular was a challenging build but it went on to win Best Stand for the whole show – Event 720’s second win this year for the same customer. Leon and Peter have future plans to build another facility, hopefully on local land.

XO Accounting is about to launch a concierge service which will provide clients better services, products and prices for home and business.

The business designs and manufactures customized exhibition stands and displays for individual exhibitors, as well as supplying flooring, furniture, lights and AV requirements.

For 24 years, Combined Churches Caring (CCC) has been providing a mini mart-style foodbank, along with various services, to help Melton people who may be dealing with homelessness, trauma or financial adversity. Nominated for this award anonymously, CCC began when nine local church leaders, with the support of Council and Centrelink, 8 2 2 0 8 1 0 2 T I CL 81-3 pooled resources to address the need for food security. Today, as well as a bank of fresh, frozen, refrigerated and packaged food, CCC provides a Life Skills Budgeting program, counselling, Salvation Army furniture and clothing vouchers, material aid, backto-school items, Christmas toys, and Telstra vouchers. CCC chief executive Denise Morris, who loves her work – as do her colleagues – says: “We’re not about numbers but strengthening communities. When people lack the most basic life needs, we can provide a back-up. We can also identify issues and then help address them – it’s about improving lives.”
